Far be it from me to suck the narrative out of a thread, but, assuming we beat Butler and SJU, and given the streak that will have been produced at that point, and given how well we will have been playing since turning around what appeared to be a broke back season, should it still be about winning the "Crappy 8" title?

In other words, we aren't exactly crappy anymore. We would be sitting at 18 - 13 and performing at the en fuego level. The national pundits are beginning to put us in view of THE CONVERSATION and we're probably not too far away from being slotted into the bracket in the event we have the right amount of success in NY.

Perhaps it's more about the "great" 2, the en fuego X, and the Crappy 7.

Don't know about the Crappy Eight, but Xavier at least preserves the Streak and gets a bye into the Big East quarters with a win Saturday against the Johnnies. Still a lot to play for to make the road to a Big East conference tournament victory manageable.

Cmon now, this is obviously tongue in cheek AND has to be viewed in the context of the conference as a whole. "GO" and I were merely trying to keep things light when things looked the darkest and the fact that VU and MU had vast separation from the bottom EIGHT....X just happened to be one of them. To be fair, I don't think being juvenile on a message board about college basketball is a flaw. Personally, I think that's a feature, and I generally enjoy keeping it light (other than when I get juvenilely intense during games). As Xuperman pointed out, this grew out of the "It Sucks to Suck" thread when it became clear there was Nova and Marquette and then everyone else. It was just something to strive for when it became clear there was no chance to "Defend the Title". At the time, I really thought Villanova and Marquette were going to be a combined 34-0 against the teams we lovingly referred to as the Crappy Eight. And believe you me, I knew it would be a major accomplishment for Xavier to win this imaginary mini-league. I called for us to cut down the nets and hang a banner if we pulled it off, because it would be such an impressive feat. I still feel that way. Call it the "Other Eight" or something you deem less disrespectful or whatever, but if we win on Saturday and share a piece of it, it will be damn near as impressive a feat for this squad as actually winning the Big East was for last year's squad.

X could be the outright winner if:

X wins
Hall loses to Nova
Creighton loses to Depaul
Gtown loses to Marquette

I think the most likely scenario is Creighton and X share the title and raise the banner, but I don't think anyone predicted Depaul beating G'town by 30 or Seton Hall beating Marquette last night, so we shall see. Saturday and the BET is going to be really interesting.
