@musketeerreport
Xavier just announced that Keonte Kennedy is taking time away from the team for personal reasons. He will not travel, play in games or practice with the team.

That sucks. Hope whatever the issues are resolve quickly, and I hope he is able to keep up the necessary work in the classroom in the meantime. Depending on the severity of the personal issues, of course, you'd hate to see a kid lose a semester of progress in school.

Ok, that explains why he disappeared all the sudden. He’s a Texas kid, so if it’s family related, he may be needed at home.

Hopefully nothing very serious, and resolved quickly. But this isn’t really at all surprising, all things considered. He has completely disappeared after the noncon

He’s actually from Colorado. Played his senior year in Texas. Regardless, I get your point. Shannon said he was at practice yesterday

Does he still keep his scholarship?
I mean, they're not going to send him a bill for the second semester at this point, but he's not going to be on scholarship next year unless he returns to the team (or there is some sort of crazy, long-term issue that is causing his personal leave).
All questions and no answers, just pray it’s nothing too serious and he gets past it.

had 2 games against Illinois and Miami Ohio where he made a difference..seems like a nice kid. So many potential issues in the world. I hope whatever it is it gets handled..

Good luck Keonte. Get things taken care of. There are things more important than basketball...believe it or not...even at Xavier.
Come back to us whole, healthy and ready to move forward in your journey, whatever that may entail.

Mental health is incredibly important, and who knows what he's going through but good on him to know that he needed a break away and take some time to gather himself and whatever he's going through. I hope it's nothing too serious and this man finds his feet again.

I mean he's barely played so I don't think it's hard to figure out. I think he needs time away to figure out what he's going to do next year, where he's going to play.
Someone mentioned he retweeted a couple of old highlight videos of himself on twitter today.

It could be that but I think that is a leap to assume it is definitely that. Most guys who transfer wait until the end of the year, he isnt gaining anything by leaving well into the second semester already.
There could easily be other very real personal/family issues. Whatever it is I hope the best for him.

I wish him nothing but the best either way.

No, he would have had to have transferred before the second semester started. If he leaves now, he'll still have to sit out all next year unless he goes to a Division II school or gets a waiver.

word floating around that Keonte Kennedy was practicing today. Supposedly Channel 5 footage of practice showed him. Very interesting.

Channel 5's coverage last night showed Kennedy at practice. The question is whether or not that was footage from yesterday or if it was just file footage?

very good point. This is definitely a possibility. Also odd that there hasn't been any other coverage- statement by Steele, quote from Shannon or Adam, anybody.

Probably file footage. I doubt if the local TV stations are at practice on a routine basis.

He has no chance at pt with 4 starters, Carter and Five frosh coming in.

Eh, I dunno. Rarely would we have a situation where 5 frosh would all get playing time. I bet if you look back at last years threads we would be talking about all of this years frosh (then recruits) getting PT too. Kennedy would have had a big leg up.
I wouldnt be surprised to see James stay and get some PT next year. Maybe not but I dont write off freshman who didnt play bc more freshman who might not play are coming in. How many XU greats would we have written off after one year?

What I mean is, the MODS have re-issued a no tolerance message about discussing possible current X players transferring.....that players and their family/friends read this board and it is somehow degrading. Can we feel OK talking about KK as a former Musketeer?
I have heard Oklahoma State, SMU are preferred destinations for KK.
Wish him the best.

Looks like he posted it himself too, pretty weird, wonder where he'll end up, I'm still thinking Texas somewhere, wonder if the Big 12 or other Texas schools want to take a flier on him. Could definitely see him end up somewhere like SMU where he could compete for time if he wants to be close to home as well. Strange stuff.

Oh no, I get that, I was saying if the Texas schools at the top (Texas Tech, Texas, etc.) or the other ones close to home like maybe Oklahoma, Okie State think he's talented enough to earn minutes, I mean yes they were personal reasons, and I get people have issues but I'm sure he'd like to play too, the move to TCU made me think he also wanted to be closer to home. If there's something going on that you want to be closer to home, maybe a SMU or even a pretty decent Houston team who don't have as many heralded recruits would seem like a better option to earn some playing time, and contribute that way. He's an athlete competing at the Division I level, none of those guys across the country want to ride the bench, playing time could contribute to his happiness and he has the 3 ball ability which has to be enticing.

Lets be real about KK. He's transferring because he didnt play, and he wont play at XU.
there are 3 types of (non-graduate) transfers:
-Guys that play ABOVE their current situation, and move UP to a better program (CJ, StainTrain, Jamel)
-Guys that Transfer to an equivalent situation because of NON-PT and NON-PERFORMACE related issues (Thornton, Drew, Crawford)
-Guys that arent performing at their current situation, and as a result transfer DOWN to a situation where they might play more (Walsh, Wolf, Graves, London, this list goes on and on)
Is there REALLY any question which grouping KK is in?
The idea that someone might speculate that he could end up at OU or UT or OSU seems crazy to me. That wont work out for anyone.

This whole thing just seems WAY too weird. I mean, OK transferring from X... whatever... didn't get much playing time which probably means the effort wasn't there in practice (cuz it's not like we had an abundance of reliable outside shooting for the whole year)... and on top of that there's some incoming talent that by early indication would appear to leapfrog any time he would have gotten next year otherwise. But then decommitting from TCU before a class or practice? Did TCU find something out about him that made THEM pull away? Did KK leave Xavier's campus and not finish the semester? Did he essentially get kicked out of Xavier for something that happened and the polite thing to say is that he left for "personal reasons" instead of implicating him in anything which may be some sort of violation of privacy? IDK... I'm just spitballing... it just seems like such a strange series of events. Maybe he's just getting conflicting advise from people around him. I hope that's what it is and he can figure out a good path for himself in the end.

FWIW, keonte got significantly overrecruited at TCU within the month of his signing there. They got both another traditional transfer and a late top 75 signing at his position

So was I. You see that Elias ended up at Jacksonville state (I think) and KK ends up at another high major school... one guy has more self-awareness than the other, though I do think Eli could’ve been a nice two year starter at a step up from where he landed. A decent mid major.

Very weird for sure. At the beginning of the year, he was first person off bench to cheer on the players playing when timeouts were called. The last couple of games with team, not so much as his body language dramatically changed. Was this due to playing time or something else? Who knows. This guy didn’t get this much chatter when he played here. Like you, wish him the best.

nice letter. It is water under the bridge but for about 8 games Steele played KK and Harden over Welage and I thought it "may" have cost us a couple of close games as he did not get a decent rhythm until near season end. Good luck to them all and look forward to all our new players and 2 grad transfers one we have for 2 seasons
