Where were you 10 years ago today?
I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing 10 years ago today ... I was with my Xavier brothers at the (in)famous SNUGGIE GAME at the Palumbo Center, in Pittsburgh, watching the Duquesne Dukes versus our Mighty Muskies.
This epic alcohol-fueled bus ride and hotel stay included many of our fellow XavierHoops brethren.
My strangely vague, oddly vivid memories of that trip include:
A near-death experience for one X fan involving blue jello shots on the bus, who was saved by our resident firefighter/EMT member
An XH member who proudly wore Groucho Marx glasses with a penis nose in a swanky bar
Multiple XH members trying to pick up chicks with fake boobs, who were nearly 30 years their senior
Many wearing navy blue Snuggies with white ropes for belts--including one idiot wearing a Snuggie with a custom-embroidered "Xavier" logo
Shannon Russell entering a blog post saying "A bunch of Xavier fans just entered the area dressed as blue friars"
The Duquesne student section was decked out in maroon Snuggies because they had caught wind of our foray into the Palumbo Center
One of our members giving his spare tickets to hot cheerleaders at the pregame reception, just because
Snipe and Fred Garvin yelling at and taunting Duquensne fans throughout the game
And my personal favorite - two members of our group ordered a cab--not knowing where they were in the city--and then rode in and paid for that trip after boarding the cab from the side entrance of our hotel--a ride of roughly 85 feet to the front entrance.
There were absurd volumes of drinking and debauchery, followed by more drinking. My liver aged 20 years that weekend.
I'm sure the many other XavierHoops members on the trip have additional memories.
I have to say, it was definitely one of best times I've ever had at an X game, and easily the most fun I ever had involving a Xavier loss.
I will raise a tall frosty mug tonight to celebrate that most momentous event, and to honor the XH members we've lost along the way!

This is a classic!! I watched the game on TV. I laughed so hard when they showed the group in the stands wearing snuggies, and then reading the stories after you guys got back.
Snuggies haven't been seen at a Xavier basketball game since that day.

Wow, has it been 10 years? It was a great time. I drove from Cbus to meet the group at the game, then drove to NE Ohio to visit my parents after some interesting moments in a hotel room with several members of the group. Those snuggles were hotter than hell, though. I recall during the game asking some Duquesne fans who were bitching during the game if they realized that they were winning and should be much happier.

Way to rep the Class of '78!
I thought the whole thing was hilarious, but I was concerned about casualties.

It was awesome, despite the fact that somehow we lost to Dookcane that night. I'll never forget that Xavier was on the court warming up with Sean Miller on the sideline and we walked in single file to our upper level seats chanting "Here we Go Muskies...Here we GO!!!" . By that time we had been well fueled by the pre-game reception and other areas of imbibing. Sean looks up at us, starts laughing hysterically and gives us the thumbs up and an arm-crossed X. And yeah, PMThor definitely saved a jello shot choking Nuts 4 XU on the bus, Kahns Krazy trolled the hotel bar afterward for 70 year old cougars, and AtlMuskie made the trip up from the deep south to be with his Xavier brothers. Snipe was the Mayor of the Group, with little authority exerted.
One thing I know. I'm still proud today that Nuts is my son, and Vee, you were a witness to that Tomfoolery.:lol::lol:
What a night. Haven't been that drunk since.

All of you make me proud to be a Musketeer Fan.
That story about Miller's reaction is priceless.

That was definitely a blurry trip. One of the only things I remember is the amount of food I ordered to the hotel room after the loss.
Lamont, do you remember what I ordered?

I was not there but the thread on this site, coupled with the repeated crowd shots on TV, was epic.

My biggest regret from this website is not being able to make the trip.... I don't think it could be duplicated.

You bring up an interesting thought:
WERE IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN, WHAT IS THE ROUGH HAND COUNT ON WHICH BIG EAST AWAY VENUE GETS TREATED TO SUCH A MAJESTIC SCENE?

I vote Nova, because I think they would get a kick out of it.
I wouldn't trust the Huckleberry's at Butler.

DePaul is probably the only place it could really work. Plenty of good seats available (like at the Palumbo Center).

DePaul already has a strong Xavier flavored Crowd when played in Chicago.

Butler...it would be epic.
Was there as well. Great time. I was happy to be driving the other direction the next day though. I recall one guy had a rudimentary taser device that was apparently employed on the bus.

If you google “Xavier Snuggies” the trip lives in infamy!
I’ve been dating (and I’m now engaged to) a lady I met because of her season tickets in the row behind me at Xavier games. After one of our first dates, I discovered her parents sat 3 rows behind us for that game in the Palumbo Center. Even witnessed me challenge one of the Duquesne faithful on his inane opinion of my behavior and nearly come to blows. They told her stories of how hammered drunk we were, and of the example we set for future Xavier fans.
Good time was had by all. I met and became fast friends with Pablo’s brother, who is no longer with us. Music City Muskie donned a custom made hockey jersey, first time I had ever seen one.

Right on cue, Nuts!!
ATL (now MusicCity) Muskie posted this epic picture on Facebook this morning. In the first left side pic you can clearly see Hideous Redhead, you, Gladden Guy & Snipe. In the right hand pic, you and I in our drunken state are shown in the red circle.
Good times!!!

Man, that trip was a good time. I think there are still stories that never saw the light of day. Thankfully.
I honestly don't really remember how we pulled that off. It was sorta like "Lets get a bus" and then it came together.
I forgot about the russian roulette style shock device that Pablo's Brother had. That this was so stupid that you had to try it.
I also remember there being people that were not amused that we played superbad on the bus. Those people do not remember the trip as fondly.

Of all things, superbad is what made them uncomfortable??????
PS....one of my favorite movies ever

There are rumors that some guy with the initials of BPS went trolling for Grandmas in the Hotel bar afterward.
Still no word on his shooting percentage. The statistics have been lost with time.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, my epic recap of that trip got lost in the XH database crash.
But some memories:
Kahn’s having instant buyers remorse after agreeing to put the bus charter in his name.
It being so cold the night before I went through a brew-through and paid a premium prize so I could stay inside the car.
Snipe arriving fashionably late wearing a laurel wreath.
The bus arriving, trunks opening and what seemed like 100 cases of beer being loaded on.
The DVD player not liking home burned Discs like the game DVDs we had.
The Jell-O shot incident
The Shock roulette. How drunk must one be before a game where you risk being shocked sounds fun.
Truck stop pizza - both ways.
The rather nice hotel Kahn’s got us, and me being glad I booked a king room for myself.
Making the trek over the bridge to the official hotel and crashing the alumni club reception. (I heard some people took a cab from one hotel to the hotel right next door).
Marching from the official hotel to the arena being as annoying as possible.
The grand entrance into Palumbo center
Sitting there in shock as we fell apart in the first half. And their student section, rightly giving us shit.
The contortionist halftime show.
Almost digging out of the hole, but like we have seen too many times. Too little, too late.
Post gaming at a local bar. Recall you could. It get yuengling in Ohio yet. 4 of us in a crowded bar trying to find a table and getting Yuengling. I remember us ending up with mutltiple pitchers and even giving some away. Making us instant friends with some friendly Dukes fans.
As if we didn’t need any more beer - heading next to the cocktail lounge at the official hotel where more antics took place.
The much more subdued trip home as people nursed the unexpected loss and hangovers.

Maybe 10 years from now we could do it again, but replace the Snuggies with Depends?
