View Full Version : Each player- ppg average?
Apologies if this info was posted somewhere else on the board but I did not see it and I was intrigued when thinking about which players were going to step up and fill the shoes of some of the scores from last year.
My projected breakdown (average points per game)
Marshall - 15.7
Goodin- 12.1
Scruggs - 11.8
Jones - 10.9
Hankins - 10.3
Welage - 8.1
Castlin - 6.2
James - 3.9
Kennedy - 2.7
Hardin - 2.3

I'd be pleased with an 84 ppg average this season especially if Coach Steele is going to put an emphasis on the Muskie defense this season as he stated earlier.

Over 80 per game? If that happens we will hang another BEast banner. Coach Steele has said team 97 will have a defense 1st mindset, so I expect mid 70's for X with the opposition 5-6 back on average.

Just because the totals add up to that many points doesn't mean our PPG will be that high. Unless everyone plays every single game, the total team PPG will be lower than the added individual PPG. That being said, here's mine:
Naji: 14.5
Q: 12.6
Scruggs: 12.4
Tyrique: 9.8
Spanks: 9.5
Welage: 7.4
Castlin: 5.8
James: 3.0
Harden: 2.3
Kennedy: 1.6
I'm expecting us to score around 75-76 ppg.

there is only1 ball still....correct? LOL
I think Marhsall at 16 PPG is high. Castlin, James and Kennedy are also high IMHO......
I think the others are pretty close

No it doesn't. If Harden plays 16 of 32 games and averages 3 points per game in those 16 and Kennedy plays 16 of 32 averaging 3 points per game in those 16, then Harden would average 3 ppg, Kennedy 3 ppg, and the team overall 3 ppg. Harden's 3+ Kennedy's 3 does not equal 6 per game for the team if they only play in half the games.

Henceforth and forever more,
There should be no math upon this board.

If Jones and Hankins can combine for a total of 21 ppg, we will have a very good season.

Before we estimate points per game, remember players like Kanter and Malcolm Bernard.
Kanter hardly contributed anything during his first 10 games. Malcolm was a role player that scored only the last 6 games of the season when he was wide open.
I will wait until Wisconsin before I really estimate this year's team. Ethan Happ against our 2 bigs will be interesting.

If that’s an option, I’ll wait till March. I like to be pretty sure. :)

I think we will have 3-4 guys average double figures:
Naji
Jones
Definite
Q
Scruggs
right around 10
Wellage will be close around 9ppg
Hankins I am think around 7.5 ppg
Castlin around 6ppg
Harden around 4 ppg
Frosh wont play much or every game somwhere bewteen 1-3 ppg.

Anybody want to rethink Welage--like 16 mpg maybe!

PPG is for total games, not games played. Go back every year and add up players PPG and that total will add up to the teams PPG regardless if they played every game or not.

Interesting I wasnt sure about this, so I looked.
This is not true, at least according to ESPN stats page from last year. Harden's PPG last year was 0.7.
He scored a total of 12 points in 18 games played.
XU played 35 games last year.
12/18 = 0.666, rounded up to 0.7ppg
12/35 = 0.34 ppg.

Also on ESPN, Xavier's total points scored was 2953. Divided by 35 games played is 84.37 ppg as a team.
Adding every players PPG total last year adds up to 86 ppg.

I'm not saying he will, but Welage could pretty easily hit that number just based on pure volume if last night was any indication.....the kid obviously has the green light to shoot at will once he gets past half court and he sure seems awfully eager to oblige them on that...it's definitely not hard to see how he could put up some serious scoring numbers when it's all said and done.
I stand corrected then
I stand.....avoiding anything math related.
I was on your side, but unwilling to stoop to doing math. I took a series of management succession aptitude tests one time at a bank. I did quite well in many areas, but it was suggested I keep a calculator with me at all times!

The light is both green, and ginormous! After the first four attempts I was wondering, but then it got fun!

Yeah he's our biggest outside threat, and it shows, they just unleashed him, and I think will do so for the entire season. I'm totally okay with that plan.

It would be very difficult for him to average 16 ppg. I have posted on here before but the number of guys in our program over the last 15-20 years who have averaged 15 or more over a whole season is not very long.

I'm not disagreeing with that sentiment at all but it's pretty clear to me that this kid is going to shoot the ball an absolute TON.....volume matters.
