What kind of crowd can we expect? Thinking about going but never been to an exhibition at Cintas. How much are tickets?

It's usually 2/3 to 3/4 full. Should be a good time. What else is there to do the day after Halloween... sit around, eat candy and watch dancing with the stars or go to an X game and enjoy a D'Artagnan Draught. I know what I'm doing. Game on!

There are always tickets being given away before tipoff either here at Dana's or in front of the Cintas Center. Especially for exhibition games.

Well it looks like Dana's for a couple cold ones beforehand! Can you still shoot some pool up stairs? Do they serve any food?

Remember the good old days when we fans would compare exhibition scores against other D1 schools who played the same D2 or Athletes In Action teams we did?
We had all the ammunition to support our beloved X team as we scored 28 points more than Kansas St or Missouri who played a team we beat too.
Will we do that again with Kentucky Weselyn? You betchya!

Are the following things still true?
1) No radio because Joe and Byron do their practice run at the exhibition.
2) No TV, not even streaming options.
Also, what is this TuneIn app advertised on the GoXavier.com schedule? Has it replaced iHeart Radio or something? It looks like it's primarily an NFL thing, which might explain why I've never heard of it.

We already know it's extremely doubtful that we see Quentin in the lineup at any point tonight, but now it sounds like Hankins might not be on the court either. Saw this on Twitter:

I wish Xavier put out a stream of the exhibition. I wonder if they are concerned about how that would cut into ticket sales, but heck, I would pay a few bucks for a one-time viewing that makes use of the video crew already on site. I imagine there are a lot of out-of-towners that feel the same way.

Me, I feel that way, hopefully anybody that goes to the game can have a quick write up of how we looked and some sets, I know it's a meaningless exhibition, but I'm just excited for the season to get under way.

Just from the stats, defense looks to be atrocious. I get that it's tough to get up for an exhibition and they are down two guys, but this is a lot closer than I thought.

Jones - slim and massive. Bullied some small dudes and had some sweet dunks. Has to convert more consistently from the block.
Naji - leaps and bounds the best player on the floor - certified pro prospect. Potential All American
Scruggs - played well, hit some J's - didn't see the "lockdown defender" attitude
Welage - he's the stretch guy and obviously has the green light - hoping just a bad shooting night. We will need for him to be consistent from 3.
Everyone else - learning, and it showed. Harden was pretty aggressive. Tough to get a gauge on the new guys, but their development will be the key to the season, as many have predicted.
With Q and Hankins playing, we probably win by 40. Will be interesting which of the subs differentiates themselves as contributors.
3 point defense could be a concern. There didn't seem to be a ton of defensive intensity. Hopefully that switch is flipped when the games count and it goes to another level.
Goetz for KYW played very well. He's a very talented undersized guard. Didn't back down from Naji at all.

Looking at the box score, while reading Drudy's report, a couple things jump out:
- Dominated them inside, I know it's a week team, but Tyrique with no Hankins playing going 9-13 in 27 minutes is awesome, looks good, but said he's gotta finish on the block more, he has the potential to be very good, gotta stay out of foul trouble, but 9-13 isn't terribly shabby, must have missed a couple sitters.
- Welage, 4/13 from 3 isn't amazing, but at least seeing 4 of them go in is better than nothing, obviously he's the biggest threat for us to stretch the court, so as Drudy said, definitely need consistency from him, I'd like to see that 30% range creep up higher to 40% that way it adds a dimension to our offense.
- Elias Harden and Keonte Kennedy had 19 and 23 minutes respectively, looks like they're gonna duke it out for a rotation spot, neither of them were able to convert from 3, so it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out, as we need one of them to be another shooter off the bench.
-Seeing Naji with 22 pts, even though an exhibition is a good sign, I think he knows he's got to be the go to guy this season, and he's relishing that role, if he can come out and score like that, we'll be okay. Good to see him put up 4 from downtown too, and make 2 of em.
Looks like a typical run of the mill exhibition where you can't really get too excited for it, but the season is amongst us, and we move on to starting to get this figured out, glad the guys were able to get a run at someone other than themselves and worked on building chemistry.

They still exist (although you probably knew that). They travel and play all over the world. It's a shame that the rules changed and that they can't play against college teams anymore. AIA fields multiple teams, and some of the players are REALLY good. They have some that played in the NBA. I think in the last year or two before the rules changed, AIA put together what I guess you would call an 'A' team, and they ended up beating three college teams that ended up going to the Elite Eight. I don't think Xavier ever played against their best team back in the day.

In irrelevant news of the night, my old grade school teammate Drew Cooper is now 0-2 against Xavier. He moved from Thomas More to KWC this past offseason.
How did our rebounding look? I’d hope we’d dominate, and while I could look up stats, the eye test counts a lot there.

X was outrebounded and Steele said players tried too often to cheat and run in transition after a missed shot so KW got a lot of offensive rebounds. Guard defense has to be better. They are great in transition but they need to lock down on teams and kill them.

1st a BIG TIME THANK YOU to 94GRAD!!! My 14 year old daughter and I really appreciated the tickets....it was her first game!!! What we saw was a mixed bag. I think we only had 7 TO's so we protected the ball well but most of the other positives on offense are very deceiving. Ky Wesleyan simply could not compete physically on the defensive end. ALL their players are VASTLY undersized compared to ours. Paul, Naji and Tyrique did what ever they wanted with little resistance and scoring wise, they pounded the Panthers all evening. None of the other X players did anything all that impressive, in fact I was a bit disappointed. Yeah, Welage did what he does and Castlin made a few nifty moves for buckets but the rest of the guys did basically nothing with plenty of opportunity. James hit a 3 with textbook form but I think that was his only points. I believe Harden went 0-3 from distance and his form looked terrible to me, especially the 1st one! Kennedy was pretty much invisible but had a steal and breakaway dunk at the very end. Now the really disturbing observations. I think they out rebounded us! Even close in offensive boards. Let that sink in. They were running the court better than us most of the evening. They got back on D very efficiently. The one most embarrassing moment, they rebounded a Xavier miss and ended up in a 2 on 1 on the other end for an easy bucket. Even though we turned them over a ton and had a truck load of steals, energy on defense was lacking. Especially allowing way too many open looks.....that needs to be addressed immediately.

I think it'll help once we get Hankins playing as well of course, we were pretty short without him depth wise in the front court (didn't watch, but just assuming), he averaged 9.7 at the DII level, which isn't mind boggling, but should still help pump those numbers up a bit.

A couple thoughts on the players....
Marshall was by far the best player on the court; appears to have improved his ball-handling
Scruggs; looked good overall, shot looked good, got a couple scrappy buckets down low, nothing really of note (which is good)
Jones; got to have fun against some undersized and under-athletic players. think he only converted one of his jump hook/post moves though.
Welage; took his looks when he got them for sure; other players were definitely looking to find him on the perimeter, should fill a nice role of stretching the D and knocking down some 3s. Just have to hope he doesnt get caught in too many iso plays on D.
Castlin; Didn't do a ton, but thats not his role. He'll take an open shot or drive when its there, but mostly defers to other players. over-did it and bit on a lot of shot fakes when closing out on 3 point shooters, but defense was solid otherwise.
James; gave good effort on D, knocked down a 3, but didnt look to do much on offense.
Harden; not too impressed here, didn't seem to have improved much. Handled the ball up the court just to make the first pass to initiate the offense, didnt do a whole lot else.
Kennedy; played a decent amount but didnt do a whole lot. similar to James didnt look for anything on offense; definitely looks like a freshman.
As a team they definitely needed to be more aggressive rebounding, seemed like there were only 2 people on the defensive glass a lot of the time (goes back to steele saying they were cheating out looking for a break). When Welage or James is in they really need to be on the D glass more. Hopefully overall effort on the glass improves in a real game.
Similar thoughts defensively. KYW really made some tough shots at times, but Xavier should have been able to prevent many of the attempts. Defense was a little lazy at times.
The game was very choppy in terms of half court offense. Jones/Hankins will need to be good passers out of the post. It was easy to see how depth will be an issue this season. There is a major dropoff at this point and very easy to see how much worse the offense was without all the main players on the floor. We all know Goodin/Marshall/Scruggs/Jones are legit. Hankins should be good. Welage and Castlin look like they will be good in their roles. After that I don't have a lot of confidence in the other guys at this point, but lots of time for them to improve and get in the mix. I could see James working his way in a little bit eventually. Hopefully Harden/Kennedy aren't forced to do a ton this year.
Just my observations from the exhibition game last night....

Yeah, I think we need to take a step back and relax. Q and Hankins changes this team a lot, so we won't really know much until we get into the swing of the season, it's going to take some time to build chemistry and get comfortable into the new roles a lot of the guys have, it's going to be an interesting season, but an exhibition against Kentucky Wesleyan shouldn't be a huge ordeal right now, let's see how they look the first few games of the season.

Guess what?
This team (or any team) is not going to play a perfect game this whole season. There are always going to be things that they could do better. There is always going g to room for improvement. While some of the posters may feel it is their duty to always point out areas they think need improvement or mistakes that were made, I think that the vast majority of fans realize perfection is impossible. Personally I’ll be happy just to see the team continue to improve as the season goes on, and won’t sweat the record to much. I’m not expecting this team to be a real challenger for a conference title. But I do think that come tourney time it may surprise some people.

I'm just hoping we can get a tournament bid and not break our conference .500 streak, I'd consider that a successful season, anything more than that, I'd be thrilled with. We do better as underdogs in the tournament anyways, so hoping we can solidify our resume through the season, and not only our guys grow as players, but Coach Steele grows as a head coach in his first season in charge. Exciting times for the program to be honest, a great recruiting class coming in, and Steele at the helm. We're gonna have a fun few next years I think.
