Can't believe neither Goodin nor Marshall made Second Team all Big East

As I've said before, St Johns has to prove a top half finish before they can be predicted in the top half.
Honestly, places 2-8 could probably be a toss up. Creighton is probably too good of a program to finish 9th.
I predict a 3rd place finish and a 7 seed in the tourney.

Partly what goes into picking all conference teams is just how stacked a position may be. The BE is certainly stacked with a lot of quality players, but it wouldn’t surprise me much if either Q or Naji made a 1st or 2nd team list at the end of the season.
As many have said....”it’s not where you start that counts, it’s where you finish that does”.
We pretty much know what we expect out of the 4 main returners, and we know what we are all hoping that the transfers can bring. I consider the freshman to be complete unknowns at this point, and anything they can bring will be a plus. But I feel that X will be able to compete well with any of the teams they will face in the BE. There are a LOT of questions about EVERY BE team that have yet to be answered, and there are bound to be surprises. I plan to just enjoy the show, enjoy the journey, and not put too much in the way of expectations on them. But a F4 and NC sure would be nice! :). LOL

Creighton will likely take a step back with Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas gone. They've got some decent players returning with Davion Mintz, Mitchell Ballock and Martin Krampelj returning from an ACL injury. Not entirely sure of who their newcomers will be. Seton Hall also has to replace a lot from last year.
What would really be funny is if Patrick Ewing and Georgetown manage to finish higher than the Johnnies do this season.

I think the fact our transfers are from Ivy, D2, and Mountain West may cause some doubt but I like what they bring. Our core 4 will be solid and we will go 7-8 deep but can't afford a major injury. It will a season unlike the last 4 and although Pascal is the next Larry Johnson and Booth tough I can't see Villanova as the odds on favorite they have been made. Nobody will be bad, the days of sweeping St J, Georgetown, Depaul are over. I look forward to the season and my daughter and boyfriend texted yesterday to say they got the LAST alumni tickets(1 year gone) so interest is very high.

I see a 3rd-5th place finish.
Staying healthy is going to be huge. The more the teams plays together, the better.
Early season is going to tell us a lot and will prepare us for the Big East slate well.

I see 4-6. Every team except DePaul will be hitting every other team hard.
Hope no injuries and amazing defense plus solid transfer contributions.

The team that gets 6 BE roadkills ends up on top but hard to say if any team can get there. I don't see any team matching our 15 Wins last year.

I could definitely see the winner at 13-5 2nd at 11-7 3rd-4th 10-8 5th-6th 9-9 7th-8th 8-10 9th 7-11 10th 5-13. Such a balanced league this year.

Cintas is well noted for a hard out....if we can go 4/5 on the road, we could get to 11/7....tied for 3rd in the BE and a 6 seed..ILIKUS....:homer:

Recap of BE by ESPN

Although this probably belongs in another thread, it seem so me that in the last few years we have adopted a policy of filling front court needs with graduate transfers. This is a lot different than a number of years ago when were "power forward U," where over a four year span guys would grow into being a force down low.

We've also lost 3 bigs we expected to be 4 years guys in the past 3 years in Ekiyor, Kentrevious Jones, and Walter. I'm expecting grad transfer bigs the next year or two again, but with Ramsey, Freemantle, and Miles set to join, hopefully we won't have to go that route as much anymore.

Hill and Grant and West came in pretty polished as they were :) To your point, they did get better.
I think the era of the "power forward" is kind of over with more and more offenses looking like 1-in, 4-out. The emphasis is on spacing the floor for 3s and drives to the basket (the most efficient shots).

I'll be the first to say that Nova lost a bunch and is NOT a shoe in to win. This league is deep this year. 4-5 teams could win the league. 13 wins is going to be tough to get........

Double or nothing our Bengals bet that Villanova wins the league by 2 games.

I think there is a difference between deep and there being a bunch of average teams. Deep insinuates there are a bunch of really good teams and I think the be is in more of a rebuilding situation this yesr.

Deep might not be the best descriptor. Maybe parity better suits this season.

with Ramsey, Freemantle, and Miles set to join,
Next year getting 5 frosh or more to come in and help might be a stretch. There s a huge learning curve with frosh. 3 or 4 of our 5 might develop and get playing time but so much will be delayed as they don't know the speed of the game nor are physically built for the highest level of competition. Marshall and Scruggs made exceptions. We shall see. This year's team with 3 grad transfers looks better "on paper" than next years very young frosh team. Maybe next year, Marshall, Scruggs, Jones, Goodin will all be studs and be superstar defenders and easily carrying the team with lots of points. Those 5 frosh getting a little taste of PT will be the key to next year's success.
How did X do when Bluiett, JP, O'Mara and the other frosh were all new on the team? I remember Bluiett started but maybe Stainbrook and Dee Davis led the team.

I believe Bluiett was the top scorer on the team all four years he played there. His freshman year he started out really hot and then slowed down as conference play moved along. But his average stayed high enough to be the leading scorer.

Matt Stainbrook was the leading scorer in Bluiett's first year.

If / when we drop 5 straight Big East games between February 16th and March 5th, this site will be on full meltdown mode. What a "favor" the league gave us, two road games, then home for Nova, then 2 more road games. Ouch.
