One daughter got car totaled 2 weeks ago as someone ran into it while it was parked on Clenay (car experts tell me "crumple zones" make many accidents a total that never would have been 20 yrs ago). Just got check from offender's insurance and will buy cheap of lease Ford. It seems like practice starts about 9 AM in Cintas as I have seen players walking in past few summers. Is that correct? No great plans as I am taking bus back to NYC at 8 but have talked way into many things in life..you never know.

Are you trying to hang outside Cintas so you can chat with players or trying to go watch practice (which, I doubt you could do)?

I am hoping at a 63 yr old parent of 2 X students, number 1 X fan in tri state area, still playing competitive 60+ hoops that someone will look the other way. At 23 I sat on Spurs bench in Philly when they beat 76ers in 1979 by being the only Spurs fan , and have weaseled my way into many places I should not have been especially when by myself. I am not too proud to beg. I doubt it will work though as my day has past. Given that no one will be up at 9 am there is no loss as I will go to 8am mass with sister rose then walk over. I freaked my daughters out by having a 5 min conversation with Q and Tyrique last year outside their dorm by dropping the Conn card(a friend of mine Ubered Tyriques mom). I am weird in a nice way.

Is your last name Cintas? If not, good luck.

I probably shouldn't say this, but I've never had a problem getting into Cintas in the off season, or on non-game days.
Just would go in any open door and start wandering around. If I ran into anyone, I'd tell them what year I graduated.
That combined with my white hair seemed to create a reason for them to ignore me, or help me.
Wandered up to the offices, Mack wasn't there, but spent some time with former women's coach. Ran into some players in the lower floors.
Just go for it.

I have never heard that these things are closed, honestly. I think local high school coaches attend to pick up ideas on running practices and what good players can do in practice. I also think the reporters often check things out, trying to brainstorm story angles.
I guess if it's unwelcome, they'll let you know and no harm done. Just look as confused as possible. Shouldn't be too hard. :seestars:

Echo this. There are a lot of auxiliary services in Cintas (study/classrooms, rest of the team sports training rooms), that there's always an open door somewhere. I used to study for finals there. If you stand at the start of the top level and its just yourself, it's pretty hard to get spotted.
Hell, I had a roommate that was on the track team (in the winter they ran laps around the concourse), and we would go shoot on the main floor.

The issue isn't "can you get in" but rather "when is practice". Mack (and I'm guessing Steele will continue this tradition) didn't close preseason practice (not sure about in-season) but you have to know when they are going, and to my knowledge it varies day-to-day.

Thanks to all..I will have a good time regardless and look forward to absorbing all the Xavier and Cincinnati experience as my wife will be home and I will be very mobile and flexible. To top it off, a 7 PM Megabus to NYC on Sat with an 11 AM arrival and train to Conn. An adventure most 63 year olds dont get and cheap too.

You could luck out and meet Snipe. He does the Megabus deal.

part of the initial logic for Xavier was Megabus and of course my oldest agreed..then never did it. Probably not a "girl thing". I can handle anything once.

Haha I had a lot of friends take the Megabus, they usually just took an Advil PM and let it run it's course for majority of the trip. Good luck catching a practice! that'd be pretty awesome and a cool experience, be sure to update us on whatever the hell happens

Paul, i'm seriously looking forward to it. Really enjoyed meeting you the first time around.
I will message you the next time I am set to go back to Cincinnati.
I imagine BJ won't mind us dropping in, though we had better consider coordinating on a wedding gift for the "young" lad!

They usually post those team workout pictures in the morning or early afternoon, so I'd suggest somewhere in that range there's a good chance they'll be around the arena. All the coaches are recruiting, so they might not be having a practice until they get back, but I'm sure they probably still shoot around and get workouts in.

Suggest you try to visit on the up-and-up. Contact the AFO contacts (Seth Breitenstein or Alicia Lawrence) or an alumni contact, Brian Maley, or even the AD, Greg Christopher. I agree wandering in Cintas for 10 or 20 minutes as an alum, partially looking lost after finding an open door, looking onto the court won't get you into trouble. However, practices are serious ... my understanding is that if you sit still the whole practice and cause absolutely zero distraction, you might be allowed to do that. Generally, that's probably not allowed and generally that's not what you want to do. With the contacts I mention, they may be willing to give you a tour of Cintas that might be more enjoyable than the "sit on your hands, don't move for 2 hours" practice. I've been around Cintas when practice is going on and it's kind of like, do your part to respect the work that the coaches and players are doing. For instance, often, they'll even close the curtains in the meeting rooms high above the court so there are distracting fans at the windows.

Alisha is no longer with X, Cyndi Meyer(513-745-3223) is the new contact person in that role.

I would accuse you of being a suck-up, but you once forked over badly needed spaghetti sauce.
Either way, I'll check with Paul about adding a digit to the value of your pending gift!

Went to 8 am mass with father graham, sister rose. Had a nice talk with father graham(could he help) and he said he was not that involved and understood. Went to gym at 9 and was open for volleyball camp(towell holding door) so took great pictures. Went back with younger daughter later and ouside of gym saw Quentin, Naj, Schrand and Hankings and coach Hayes(I think). I was going to talk to them(which i am capable of) and my daughter said "dad, dont be weird". They went into the private gym and the door stayed open a few inches for 15 sec (auto close delay) then shut tight like Fort Knox. Oh well.. all in all a good rainy weekend and got a lot done and went to Listerman's(Fiona beer can) and Dana's

Haha favorite part is your daughter being "Dad, don't be weird." Unfortunate ya couldn't catch a practice, but still seems like a pretty fun weekend, glad to hear you had a good time man!

Anyone have any knowledge of how the practices have been going? Any tidbit would be appreciated!
