As if not having any of our players drafted from a 1 seed NCAA tournament team wasn’t bad enough, now I just noticed the ESPN website staff apparently thinks J.P. is Kaiser and Kaiser is J.P.

Ouch...Come on ESPN

The last pick too... what a kick in the nuts to Tre, JP, Gates and Xaviernation.

Is this right, that the only player brought into the program who was drafted during Mack’s tenure as HC was Semaj? Seems hard to believe given the program’s success during that time, and since the coaches before him all produced multiple draft picks with shorter tenures and less program success. I suppose it’s a coincidence, but it seems there should be something to glean from this. Not sure what it would be, as there are plenty of cases of positive player development to point to. And he only recruited a half click behind Nova, so you can’t say he got the most from an empty cupboard. Whatever it is, you certainly can’t make the case that Mack recruits, develops, or produces NBA talent. Maybe he will now that he can recruit the kines of players he needs at Skanksville.

Is anyone reallly surprised they didn't get drafted? C'mon now. Maybe they get some looks but all three can go have very nice careers overseas.

Surprised that no X player got drafted... no.

Bummed... yes.

A bit surprised AND bummed that a Dayton player got drafted.

Not surprised Mack didn’t have many of his players get drafted, nor do I care if he ever does in the future.

Noone is surprised by this who knows talent. All three will make great careers overseas. Tu Holloway was better than all of these guys and cant get in the league which tells you how hard it is to get in the NBA. Of the three I think the best chance to eventually get in the league is Kaiser. He can be a 3 and D guy and has the most upside.

Sumner as well.

There were a couple of guys that really had the potential to make their way there. Just didn't happen for them.

I always thought Jalen and Montrezl Harrell were in the same mold.... Out on anyone who hasn’t made the NBA i feel like Jalen had most potential to do so (physically at least).

Undrafted forward Kaiser Gates from Xavier will play Summer League for the Chicago Bulls. Probable two-way candidate.

Not that anyone cares, but I think the Dayton player got drafted for the following reason:

76ers had 6 draft picks this year. NO WAY all those guys make the team. For their 6th, they picked up the BROTHER of a player who is highly desirable....and who I think becomes a free agent next year...

Semaj, Sumner, Crawford all were Mack guys. What about Derick Brown, I think there was a year of Mack with him??

No if Derrick Brown played on that Crawford team they could have been the
best Xavier team ever. That is what pissed me off most about Mack’s first year. With DBrown back and Sean for one more year Sean would have maybe had at least one final four to his name.

I agree, if DBrown would have come back, we would have had a banner hanging. TU, JCraw and DBrown.. that was the year TTOW ( that team out west) lost at the buzzer to duke.. I firmly believe we would have had a legit chance to win it all.

It's really tough to make it to the NBA, and more players are drafted on high athleticism, than their game overall. Does that mean to say Xavier had bad players?? No. It's just a different beast where you can't teach size, speed, jumping ability. I do agree that Jalen Reynolds had the tool-set but the NBA was already changing to spacing the floor, and having bigs that have a little bit of range, the bangers in the post (basically Reynolds skill set) are becoming a very dying breed. I also think that'll change, we've gotten more talent since the move to the Big East, and as the league has established that it's pretty damn good I think we'll see some more X players drafted in the coming years, especially with the recruiting we've been doing. Am I upset Kaiser, JP, and Tre didn't get drafted?? Yeah, but am I shocked?? Not really. I wasn't expecting them too, but you never know with these things. Worst case scenario they get 6 figures making a killing overseas and keep trying.

Also I fully believe if Tu had just 2 or 3 more inches of height on him, he'd be in the NBA. It's rare to find a guy under 6' foot carve out a good career, unless they're a freak like Nate Robinson who carved out a decent 10 year career. It's just the things scouts drool for that are setting us back, I don't think it's the skill set.

Agree with you and WEBXU about D Brown...

That team would have been sick. I also think Derrick might have had a completely different NBA career had he stayed another year. He was so gifted but also so could have benefitted from one more year of playing at the college level. He and Crawford together would have been a beautiful thing indeed... plus some of the other pieces (including Tu). Brown was easily one of my all time favore X players.

Lol no. Brown wisely left after having a heck of a season shooting the ball from deep (doubt he would have repeated that). He also took a RS and would have just been another year older.

Yeah I always find it funny how people ascribe this magical "one more year in college" theory when guys dont pan out in the NBA. Especially when talking about a guy who was a 4th year junior.

Like if Derrick Brown only had one more year of coaching from first time ever head coach Chris Mack, instead of HOF Larry Brown (who I hate TBH), man his career would have been completely different.
