I'm thinking of ditching DirecTV and moving to a ROKU/Firestick/etc so that I don't pay $140/month to watch Everybody Loves Raymond reruns. Basketball season is my biggest hang-up right now. I have season tickets so I'll be at the home games, but important question is will I be able to watch the road games? There is a Fox Sports App on the Roku, but can't figure out if that is a channel that would require a cable/directv subscription to access? Any advice from those who have been through this exercise is appreciated.

I'm almost positive you need a DirectV/Cable subscription to be able to view things on the FS app. Have you thought about Directv Now or Youtube TV, or some streaming cable service like that? I believe they are both around $40 a month.

Thinking about doing the same and have been doing some research. As 95 said, you’ll need some type of streaming service. I’m probably going with PlayStation Vue - Core package. It runs around $44 a month and has FS1 and 2 along w Fox Ohio. Only reason why I’m choosing PlayStation is you can watch (stream) multiple devices. Some service only let you stream one device at a time. Obviously not ideal for family viewing

I really liked DirecTV when I switched over 3 years ago.

Really disappointed in the last year. The receiver is consistently very slow, service outages when it rains hard, and receiver seems to reboot once every week.

Any suggestions? BAck to cable or CB Fioptics?

One drawback with streaming the games is if you join the live chat during the games, you’ll be 20-30 seconds behind those watching via cable.

Can you activate and cancel the Directv Now on a month to month basis, or would it be a full year commitment to activate? If I could just activate during the season that would work well.

They bill you monthly and you can cancel at any time.

Great call and didn’t think of that! Quote made me laugh because reminded me when I watched my first Super Bowl on a HDTV in a finished basement and the people upstairs in kitchen watching analog TV were screaming and cheering 15 seconds before us.

In the past when I have called DIRECTV to cancel I have only been offered a slight discount. Maybe $20 a month. However this year I decided I was going to go to streaming. I had everything all set up. I told myself no matter what happens when I call DIRECTV to cancel I am sticking to my guns, ending service. Well… I am still with DIRECTV. My bill (including internet) went from $160 a month to $58 a month. I don’t know if it is because they are having massive cancellations or not, but it is definitely worth a phone call.

About 2 years ago I ditched Dish Network and got Sling with the added Fox sports package. Run it, along with Netflix and Amazon Prime, through a Roku and it costs $25/month. Can watch all the Fox games through the Sling app. I love it, but you do have to have a fast internet connection.

DIRECTV is usually great at customer service in this area. Thanks for the heads up I will be calling to reduce my bill this week.
