Geno Crandall is visiting this weekend. Would be a huge pick up.

yeah I was feeling confident until I heard Gonzaga was in on him

Agreed, but we still have a lot of recruiting advantages over them with facilities, conference, etc. Minnesota having a guy transfer out had me more worried

Visited Gonzaga over the weekend but did NOT commit.
Looks like a decision coming this week, prolly by Thursday.

Good that he doesn't commit, means we're still in the race, I'd love to get this guy, he can shoot, he can score, looks like the real deal. This would be a great coup for us, hoping we're looking better than the Zags right now.

Either way he gets to go to Maui for Thanksgiving.

If you have one year to showcase your talent, I give the edge to Xavier right now. Way more exposure on TV in big markets and the Big East is a significantly better league to play in than the WCC.

Careful...I tried to make that point elsewhere and it almost created an argument over Gonzaga, draft picks, TV markets, scouts, and overseas connections...whew!

But I agree with you. :).

The Big East is obviously a better league than the WCC. I don't think you get more exposure at Xavier than you do at Gonzaga, though.

Can't really go wrong with that choice, but of course I hope he chooses Xavier.

it's hard to talk shit considering they've made a FF/Championsip game and have smoked us 3 times in the past 10 years, but the Zags board is acting like X isn't even involved.

I am guessing it’s between Gonzaga and Minnesota his home. We have a shot here though.

Haha I mean you never know with these things fully, even commits change their minds after getting to campus, not like that happened to us or anything recently... I'd love for you to be right though

Minnesota is in third in a three team race.

If you believe twitter followers mean something (which I don't) he is following more Xavier players and coaches than he is Gonzaga's.

I just believe these kids following people on twitter equates to us following people on LinkedIn. I don't believe you can read anything into it.

If we are taking social media into account, check out Geno’s Instagram page. He spent the 4th of July with 3 Gophers players and captioned the photo with “Keep the Family Close.”

The guys he always practices with in the offseason are his friends. Breaking!

One Minnesota fan on twitter said “Xavier might be a nice little Jesuit school but Minnesota is a powerhouse”. Hilarious level of delusion

Unfortunate, was hoping to get him because he looked really good, he'll be great for Gonzaga, but hopefully we catch the lucky end of the break on one of these big decisions, it's bound to happen soon.

Minnesota has no Final Fours:

7. Minnesota (1996-97)

Record: 31-4

Coach: Clem Haskins

Star players: Bobby Jackson, Sam Jacobson, Eric Harris

Why NCAA got involved: An academic fraud scandal involving Haskins, an academic adviser and a secretary involving "400 pieces of course work for at least 18 student-athletes" from 1994-98.

What didn't happen: Jackson's high socks, Jacobson's shooting or Harris' high-flying dunks for a team that finished 16-2 in Big Ten play before a run through the NCAA tournament that ended with a thrilling 78-69 loss to eventual national champion Kentucky – coached by Pitino? Of course not.

Just to bring it full circle, Gonzaga's run started when it "upset" Minnesota in 1999 after several Minnesota players were ruled ineligible for the game due to this scandal: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/colbask/longterm/1999/men/articles/gonzagaminnesota12.htm?noredirect=on

Not to mention then-Gonzaga coach Dan Monson took the Minny job in 2000. He wasn't nearly as successful for the Gophers.

Maybe it's a good thing Xavier missed out on Geno Crandell:

Grand Forks Herald - Expected to be at Gonzaga This Semester, Geno Crandall Still Enrolled at North Dakota (http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/basketball/4494693-expected-be-gonzaga-semester-geno-crandall-still-enrolled-und#.W48Qyzc8oaI.twitter)

On the other hand, Crandall could still get his degree in December and then transfer to Gonzaga once he officially receives his degree. When was the last time (if ever) someone played for two different D-I teams in a single season?

He couldn't play for UND first semester if he wanted to play at Gonzaga for the second semester. You can't play for two teams in the same season.

Don't get how he could screwed this up. If he's still enrolled at UND and they are on the semester system, how is of benefit to the ZAGS who are already loaded?

GIMMFD
09-05-2018, 05:16 PM
I'm really confused to how this happened and what it means going forward, like it's impossible to be enrolled into two universities at the same time right, and when does Gonzaga start classes, shouldn't this have been figured out a while ago?

ArizonaXUGrad
09-05-2018, 05:23 PM
He is not on Gonzaga's roster. I would think that is for him then. It's either UND or bust.

North Dakota transfer Geno Crandall isn't enrolled currently at GU, according to school's registrar office. “Geno is continuing to work on his NCAA transfer requirements and we are excited for him to become a Zag,” GU sports information director Barrett Henderson said.

___

My guess is he won't get those final credits done.

X-band '01
09-05-2018, 07:18 PM
The way I read it, he'll likely get his degree in December and immediately transfer to Gonzaga after the fall semester ends. He'll miss just about every notable noncon game but still be available for them for WCC play. But with his degree work not yet done, that's why he's not enrolled at Gonzaga for now.

If I were a Zag fan, not sure I’d be happy to have him play in second half. What happens to the team chemistry they developed? Especially, since he hasn’t ran with the system or practiced with team? Yikes
