Now that DFW has another NBA Championship ring and a history of greatness (2-time NBA All-Star, College POY, 3-time All-American, A-10 POY, etc., etc., etc.), will he decide to return to XU, filling out the vacant slot as Assistant Coach on Travis Steele's excellent Staff? What 4- or 5-star big man would not want to take advantage of all the class, skill, and knowledge that West has to offer to those looking to work the paint in the NBA?

I think DWest has some more mileage in the league.

I think he's done. No idea what he'll do next, but I suspect he'll retire as an NBA player now.

My understanding is that DWest will not be joining the XU coaching staff.

Um no. Only if he wants to start at the bottom and be a graduate student-assistant.
James Posey went to the CAVS and he has had similar or better NBA championship performances. He stayed with the pros.

I bet West sticks with the pros like Posey. He has never recruited a high school player ever in his life so maybe he could start at the bottom but he is in his mid 30's and may want to make high 5 or low 6 figure income as an intelligent assistant for the pros.

Yeah I see that as the more likely route, and then maybe after a few years as an assistant POSSIBLY come back to X, but I just don't see him wanting to do the grad student route at this stage. He got himself two rings though, which he fully deserved. Who knows if he wants to chase one more with Golden State? He did allude to a lot of drama that went on behind the scenes with that team.

I'm sure DFW had to put his foot up Draymond's worthless ass regularly.

Yeah, David West looked kind of done when he was on the floor. Love him, but he might be done.

Personally, I think west is being a complete douche. "You wouldn't believe the stuff that was going on, but we did such a good job of keeping it in house." Well dude, you just let it out of the bag, and made it even worse by not saying what it was. So now everyone is speculating all kinds of stuff.

How awful to have internal politics and dispute on a ridiculously overpowered team. I'm sobbing.

It's almost as if he started this crap to try to be relevant which he hasn't been for years now.

Yeah pretty sure thats not his style. Never has been. He is widely respected throughout the league as a great teammate and leader from multiple things I have read about him.

All of my inside sources say he won't be getting into coaching.

The only "inside sources" I have are my guts. Whether or not DFW gets into coaching is not the point. The point is that he seems to have all the good qualities and characteristics of a person who could BE a great coach! He's a great leader; highly respected wherever he is known by those around him; he has had success at every "stop" along his life's way; and has a wealth of experience to pass along to players at any level.

That's David F***ing West!

I would take him on my team any day. He's very talented and is the heart of that Golden State team.

I get that he isn't amazing at anything but is the motor to keep things running, but I'm not 100% convinced that he's the only guy for that particular role that they play him in, I could definitely see someone stepping into that role and being just as effective, especially with the way the game has been changing recently and guys are asked to be very well rounded these days.

West is a great leader and player BUT that does not mean he will be a great assistant coach.

If great basketball players were great coaches then why have we not Tu Holloway, Keith Jackson, Aaron Williams, Tyrone Hill, Derek Strong, etc.

If they were great leaders, why are they not at Xavier?

Lets be honest....not all players are ideal for XU coaches.

Villanova had zero Villanova NBA players on their coaching staff.

It is a possibility but Pat Kelsey could have stayed at X. It is about intelligence and understanding recruiting plus game plans.
