This seems like the logical thing. Many on here have said that, and also have said that we hope samari doesn’t decommit, but here we are. It also probably is a kid that saw a major hike in his national rank, and wants to see what kind of offers he can attract. I don’t blame him for looking, alrhough it is unfortunately for X. I can’t ever recall someone committing to the school they decommited from. Anyone have an example to give me some hope?

How about school stop celebrating verbal acceptances. Flash the cool Twitter X when its actually official. Everytime I hear of a new verbal, I don't get all that excited anymore until it's a done deal.
Seems we lose more than we get.

Even when its a done deal it isnt really a done deal. If a guy wants to leave who singed, have we ever not let them out of it?
Kennedy was a "done deal".
Isn't Curtis ranked higher than Franklin? Seems like it has more to do with him being a high riser all of a sudden and wanting to see what other offers he can get than decommitting because a guy ranked lower or close to him is also committing. Right?

How about a kid who decommits only to have his shoes filled quickly by 1 or 2 other players. Then his offer is taken off the table just when he was ready to recommit to XU or other places. Don't know if this happens, but seems it would at certain schools.

They arent far off on 247. Not sure if these are the most updated rankings.
Curtis is 100 national rk. 12 CG ranking. #4 in OH
Franklin is 109 national rk. 15 CG ranking. #4 in IN

Curtis and Franklin are ranked pretty close, right around 100. Shooting guards are the toughest to predict. I have seen both Franklin and Curtis play this summer and it’s a coin toss IMO. Franklin looked like he is a bit more athletic and Curtis appeared to have a better shot/quicker release in the small sample size. I also liked Franklins defensive intensity, but it’s summer ball and any defensive intensity is impressive.
I could be wrong but I don’t think Curtis’ rise in ranking played much of a role. He committed before the coaching change and was probably hoping to be the only SG for the class. This staff appears to be targeting other SGs more than the previous staff on the surface. That would worry me as well if I were Curtis.

And it doesn't necessarily have to be about being the best SG in a class. If he thinks he might have to share more minutes over 4 years, and got a rating boost, he probably thinks he can potentially find a better situation.

Does this program ever get to the point where high 4s and 5s are regularly committing?
Part of me says yes (based on trajectory) and part of me wonders if that small Catholic school in the middle of a smaller city will ever get there. We've heard from both Mack and Miller that it's very hard to consistently close the game changers. I'm thinking they're more right than wrong.

If you are comparing Cincinnati to Dayton:
Shopping : Several Large malls Dayton: Malls in Beavercreek and Fairborn don't count
Professional Sports: Reds,Bengals and FC plus minor league hockey Dayton: Dragons
Events: Flying Pig marathon, Fireworks. Taste of Cincinnati just to name a few Dayton: ?
I hope I have made my point. If you are from Dayton, go to Kramers and get yourself another 40oz.

Yeah like the crowd size for those two events isn't overestimated by a factor of four. I lived in downtown Cincinnati for several years and always laughed when I saw the 500,000 number attached to multiple events. Everyone knows it's nonsense.
Do you honestly believe 1 out of every 590 people in the United States attended The Taste of Cincinnati over the weekend ? Think of just how absurd that is.
Opening up his commitment may simply be his way of saying "I was completely committed when it seemed like one or two guards may be commiting, but now I feel I have to leave the door open."
Maybe Samari and his mom were hearing rumors that X was close to signing a few more 4star guards... and maybe Curtis was recently contacted by another school like X (with a very good basketball program) claiming their team desperately needs a good shooting guard... and maybe they are coming after him hard... maybe Curtis feels he owes it to himself to at least visit and see what the situation is.
We can speculate as to why he has openned up his commitment- there are so many reasons (even combinations of reasons) that could have lead to it.
X looks to be in a great position to end up with a top 20 2019 class, regardless or whether he recommits or not. Still, it would be awesome to see him recommit to X.

550k visits. 175k a day. Even if it's 300k individuals, that's still a big number. And you initial argument was that there's nothing to do in Cincy. I gave you just a short list of things to do throughout the year. The list goes on, Bunbury, Maifest in Covington, Goettafest, etc. Tell us again that there's nothing to do in Cincy?

It likely draws about 120-140 thousand over the three days, and that's a nice crowd. I never understood why they have to lie about it. No... don't buy into that nonsense. We may never be at the Duke or Kentucky level, but we continue to tick up and we are likely to start landing those 5 star prospects with the combination of Steele's recruiting ability (making a connection with those he targets) and his coaching ability (leading his players to their first final 4).
It's not like landing top tier players got Miller any closer to a NCAA championship (like he suggested it would). Somehow, I see Mack's similar excuse (he used when he left) will also prove to be just that... an excuse. We had a final four caliber team this past season. X didn't fail to reach the F4 because of a lack of talent.

I’ve been to Minneapolis at least three times, in various seasons, and I think it’s a great city! I’m not saying it’s NYC or SF (what else is???), but I see no reason why it can’t be in the same conversation. If it weren’t for the weather, I’d consider it and the cost of living might make it a better option than the other cities named.

100% agree. Have been to Mpls many times, The Twin Cities metro is nearly double the size of the Cincy metro... it is sophisticated, with a food/arts/activity culture that is super under-rated.
FWIW, I only lived in Cincy during college and the few years following, but I think it’s also a great city. Aside from its major events and venues, there are all kinds of fun neighborhood nooks and crannies to discover, if you’re willing to look for them. My wife and I always thought that was Cincy’s charm, and what makes it unique.

I hadn’t thought of it that way, but that’s a great point about Nashville. I love that town and that’’s part of why. We’ll miss it when we finally get the condo sold. I need to get up and enjoy it while we can. Trying to get my old X roommate to join me there soon. Hotels there are really expensive!

They celebrate the hell out of summer! Walking, jogging, strolling babies, planting flowers, etc. We arrived on a Thursday one summer, and the restaurants were PACKED! Couldn’t get into our first choice. The next night we decided to try earlier and we could walk right in. Almost empty. I asked what the difference was and was told “it’s Friday”. Huh? Should be a big night, right? Nope, they tell me everyone takes long weekends all summer to go to their lake houses...then they just knuckle down and work all winter.

Geez, it ONLY brought a $49 million return, not to mention thousands of people who've never been here before talking about the city to everyone they mentioned their travels to. The direct revenue was exactly $10 million, so they broke even, but the added business to the region was huge.

Where did you get that garbage ? All in it lost just over 17 million dollars. The $49 million is a bulls--t number estimating the market cost of publicity it generated. If that generated $49 million than a Monday Night Football game would be over a billion. Nice job falling for the CYA put out by the visitors bureau.

Anyways back to Curtis, he said he had a really good relationship with Travis Steele and that "they talked every single day", I know we say that it's because he's getting some offers now, but do you think we have a realistic shot in keeping him? Or if Armaan Franklin commits the writing is on the wall? We're okay on guards right now because we'll still have Q and Scruggs, but beyond that it's a bit of a question mark, think he doesn't want to compete for minutes and contribute right away??

I wish I had a clue as to what’s going on here, so I wait, and check in here to see in what direction these threads wander off. I just hope and pray for the best.

I don't see the staff continuing to recruit Curtis. He really caught them off guard with his decommittment. Also, Xavier is in great position with Franklin, most think it is a day to day thing. #commitmentwatch

Ahh okay, so it's probably just a clean break, well that sucks, I was pretty excited about him, his highlights were a treat to watch, and really looked like he could light it up from deep.

If only to show Holtman, Painter et al to keep their greasy mitts away from Muskie commits, Curtis is not one from whom Coach Steele is going to turn away.

Steele doesn't want him because they are going after other recruits for the next class that they feel better about. Keonte is basically Elias Harden 2.0... Harden was a much higher rated recruit coming out of high school too, he just didn't have much of a chance for minutes last year.

While I would have liked to have had Curtis, we are in with better players than him. Plus 0% chance he was a PG at Xavier.

Agreed. Unfortunate for him, I'm sure UC fans are going to have an irrational field day with this. Oh well, let's lock up Ramsey, King, Franklin, and let another piece fall for us and sign a quality class. Would have liked Samari Curtis a lot, he's a big time scorer, but if he wants to choose the AAC over the Big East, that's on him.

I'm sure Paul Scruggs will be willing to pass that torch to (hopefully) Dwon Odom when that time comes. Losing Curtis was upsetting, but losing him to UC, honestly, to me at least, eases the pain a bit. We didn't lose him because a bigger program came along. We lost him because we couldn't offer him the position he wanted to play.

I know, and I think Brian knows that, and that was a part of the fun in tweeting that he is a shooting guard, rather than a point guard or just "guard". He also just put out an article on the commitment with the title "How good Samari Curtis will be depends on if he is willing to read his own scouting report" (i.e. whether he accepts that he's better suited off the ball.

I hope for him he can prove all the doubters wrong. Nothing wrong with working to improve your skills that make a good point guard, no matter where you are placed on the floor. I'm sure his coaches would appreciate that as long as he's not messing up plays.

Not really sure what he is thinking. I hear the Johnson kid that UC has is going to be a real good point guard and he is only a freshman this year, so it’s not like Mick is just going to hand him the starting PG position.

Maybe Curtis just has a knack for signing up to play with coaches that either take another job or get fired.
Signs with Xavier and Chris Ma - never mind, went to Louisville

Signs with Nebraska and Tim Mi - umm, Miles was fired and is now a BTN/Fox analyst
