Seems a bit generous to me based on our offseason activity so far, but I like the positive press.

This should be good for the "making the tournament would be a miracle" crowd.

For the record, I don't think X is Top 25 good next year from the jump, but probably in that next range of 10-15 teams. A lot of teams would trade for X's core and they should only improve as the year goes on.

I still like them as a 7ish seed.

This will be a tough year without 2 transfers or 2 JUCOs that can play D1 well on the interior. Gates and Jones as our only "post" players might be a struggle.
We shall see.
Learn from Villanova and space floor out, have 7 players that can shoot 3's.

I'd say right now we have 1 player that can consistently (lol...) shoot the three, and he finished the season shooting something like 11% for the second half. After that, are we banking on Elias and Keonte to provide shooting? A grad transfer, hopefully? I expect Paul and QG to hover around 33%, Naji a little better, 35-ish%, which is fine, but it ain't a recipe to just lift like Nova does.

This team will win (hopefully) a lot of games in 60s. Next year is not the year to take that note from Villanova's playbook, with our roster.

Saw this. Xavier was 7th in the league for 3pt%. Rebounding margin is where Xavier buttered their bread.

1. Marquette 18 196 459 . 4 2 7
2. Villanova 18 206 537 . 3 8 4
3. Georgetown 18 139 374 . 3 7 2
4. Butler 18 157 423 . 3 7 1
5. Creighton 18 181 492 . 3 6 8
6. Seton Hall 18 135 375 . 3 6 0
7. Xavier 18 142 396 . 3 5 9
8. St. John's 18 130 386 . 3 3 7
9. Providence 18 111 354 . 3 1 4
10. DePaul 18 112 368 . 3 0 4

We might be dead last next year in 3pt%.

Nova had 7 or 8 guys that could knock down a three pointer. They all shot a good percentage. So hard to guard them because they spread the floor and someone is always ready to shoot from three.

Damn....that is a ridiculous margin between 1 and 2. .025 difference between 7 and 2. .043 difference between 1 and 2. Obviously, Marquette must have done a LOT of other things very badly, but that is an amazing spread.

JUCO players almost never pan out. I'd rather take a grad transfer.

We have a solid starting squad.

Depth is going to be the issue. The goal should still be making the tournament. We will likely be a bubble type of team, but we're not going to be "terrible".

I agree. Xavier's public inactivity since Mack left has been deafening and doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling about the future. Hopefully there will be some earth shattering announcements in the press conference today that will give me hope.

Do you mean about Assistants being hired? It's been over a Religious Holiday at a Catholic School.

I was really just referring to losing a coach and a probable starter off an already thin team. We need to add back a starter-level player and someone who can at least provide some depth before I'll get too psyched about next year.

Shortest write-up. "This roster has some dudes." What the hell is this supposed to mean?

Other than that, they are young with a new coach.

Thanks for the special insight.

No other BE teams (besides Villy, obviously). Is Xavier going to be the second best team in the conference?

Any obvious misses (besides VD)?

BTW: UC nowhere to be seen.

If you take a week off for religious holiday's while everybody else is working it may bite you in the butt.

What would you want Xavier to do? Steele has been hired, his press conference is today, he has surely been on the phone with the team, committed players, recruits and of course assistant coaching candidates.

Frankly, I'm still surprised how quickly (and over the weekend) Steele was hired. I had expected an announcement either yesterday or today with a Thursday/Friday press conference. Frankly, the timeline is more sped up than I imagined it would be (which is a good thing).

UC fans probably are in full panic mode with the announced loss of Evans that comes on top of their graduating losses. All that plus still being stuck with the YTG is a road to hell.

Speaking of a road to hell, the idea that VD would be anywhere close to any form of basketball rankings would only possibly occur to the most delusional of VD fans. Anthony Grant will probably end up making Brian Gregory look good.

Well, between yesterday and today we have found out:

1) Keeping Growe, Jennings, and Mario

2) No one on the current roster is transferring

3) All recruits are still committed

4) we're in on some good transfers

The only bad news we've had since Mack left is Boudreaux. Oh well. It was going to be a step back from this year even if none of what has happened came to fruition.

I missed the poll mentioned above, but the Sporting News poll had us at 22 with UC and 20 I believe. However, I also noted that Nova and X are the only two BE teams in the pre-season polls I have seen. I noted toward the end of the season that the BE teams were all (except Nova) losing a lot of very good players. Hopefully one or two of the not mentioned teams will be surprises. The OOC schedule will be very important, IMO, for the BE this coming fall.

David Fluker (Head Trainer) is staying as well.

Thanks, X Factor. With the attrition we have faced, any stability is an important piece. Even more so, with our lack of dept (at least at this point in the offseason), he will have an important role in keeping our guys healthy and fresh.
