View Full Version : Nova is a Blue Blood

Congrats to Nova, truly a blue blood. Since I was born in 1979, basically the modern era, they’ve won more NCs than UCLA, KU, MSU, Zona, Cuse, Michigan, IU, etc. They’ve won as many as UK, and only Duke, UConn, and UNC have won more in that time.

Best of all, Nova has done it the right way. They are everything we want X to be, and I’m thrilled they’re in our conference. I don’t know any X fans who resent their success, and we shouldn’t. Instead, we should recognize that they are proof that a program like ours can be everything we dream it can be.

Our coaches may come and go, but they don’t make our program. We as fans, supporters, and alumni do. We care the most, and as long as we continue to support the program with the necessary resources, X will one day reach the promised land. Thank you Nova, for keeping this in perspective.

No hatred towards that team. Great job Nova!!!! Way to rep the Beast. So since 2010 the beast has rep the title game 4 times. I count Butler now.

They have great individual talent. Funny Rafferty almost mentioned that Divencenzo was white last night(said something about stereotype). He is actually very similar to Dwayne Wayde(Dan Marleje already in rear view window) Pascal similar to Larry Johnson, Brunson a skilled Kidd, Bridges a poor man's Pippen, SPellman maybe Derrick Coleman, Booth like Trey Burke and Gillespie is on the way. Their defense is very good given their offense. If there was not even a 3 point play they may still win as their opponents would not have the 3 either

Bookies have already made Duke a 5-1 favorite for next year, but I wouldn’t count Nova out. I think that they have a real chance at a repeat. Very solid core of players coming back and ad two 5 stars and two 4 stars to the mix.

Look, if X isn’t there I want another BE team to be. Nova is certainly a great representative for the BE and a great example of what every program in the conference CAN be.

Congratulations to Nova and it’s fans. Well deserved and well done.

I get what people are trying to say but blue blood implies you don’t have to work for it. Everything is handed to you. Jay wright most certainly built a program.

Gotta say, its been pretty cool--we are INCREDIBLY fortunate to have Jay.. The BE support has been amazing (OTR - Love the Ass Herpes comment!). Yet, we still lost the BE regular season crown. :drinks:

Big XII , BIG, better conferences, yeah... not so much!

Novachap...I was lucky enough to see Jay Wright's coaching style up close and personal in St. Thomas about 10 or so years ago. X pulled off the win against them in the semis of that tournament. Nova then destroyed Iowa in the 3rd place game, and he stayed to watch AL and X play. He then pulled Scottie Reynolds and Mike Nardi to the bleachers with him and was using things happening on the court as teaching moments for them. I watched this unfold no more than 10 feet from me. He was phenomenal to watch, and I quickly became a fan. You guys have a stellar and classy program, and as many on here have mentioned, I have ZERO resentment regarding your success. Congrats to your team on the win!

If Xavier is out, I always find myself pulling for 'Nova. It's hard not to - they have a great coach and great program.

Their attitude and business like approach on the court is awesome and hard to describe. It's cocky but not in a bad way.

Congrats to Villanova - hopefully we will get ours too!

So in Mack's Era of childhood Louisville was his team.. so he leaves for Louisville. I wonder who Jay Wright's team was. I am guessing it doesn't matter who it was but who it is now, and has been for the last 17 years.

Nova is a class act as is Jay Wright. Integrity, Passion, Discipline, hard work he and his teams exemplify all of these qualities. A man with real character.
Congratulations Nova.

Villanova is what happens when you bring talent, team, tenacity, and tenure to the floor and play all 40 minutes with everything you have. Man, they are fun to watch when it isn't X they are dismantling. I just watched them knowing that the next gear would kick in and Michigan would wonder what happened and then bam, it was over and there was nothing Michigan could do. I actually laughed and said out loud to the tv, "don't feel bad Michigan, I know how you feel and there is nothing you can do." If you don't bring your A game, forget it, and even if you do, it will still be tough to win. Congrats Nova! Well earned and well deserved.

Class of the league and its not even close..........Mack bailed when we were making up some huge ground. Steele will have a tough couple of years, but I think we keep climbing and I don't think Nova can keep winning at this pace.

Been saying that same thing all year about that team... about that coach. Jay is the best in the.biz. Mack was his bitch.

Mack fell short in some categories... focus, tenacity more often = Steele? Let's hope so!

There's a lot that made that team successful but the biggest thing that made them great this year, past years, and into the future: Jay Wright. I've said for years he's the best coach in basketball. Xs-and-Os, on court demeanor, dealing with media and other teams, and - far most importantly - setting the culture. For so long as he is there, they will be a very formidable (and, if we're being honest, most years an unconquerable) opponent (almost said rival...we don't deserve that yet...games need to even up some before this is an actual rivalry).

So who from nova leaves early? Currently have 11 guys on scholarship and 0 are seniors. They have 3 freshman coming in do at least 1 needs to move on to make room. Do Brunson and Booth go for a 3rd title in 4 years?

We aren't going to be a title contender next year so if nova retains its core and destroys us again i won't be mad. Nova is a fun team to watch.

Brunson and Bridges will likely be the only ones gone. Spellman might test the waters and get some advice, because why not? They'll be a little different, perhaps, without Brunson, but they'll be just as formidable.

Not going to happen. Worst case only Bridges goes.......best case, 2 of the 4 go.

Spellman is a top 10 pick next year if he continues to improve. Divincenzo is coming back for sure.

I don't think it's a stretch at all that Bridges, Brunson and Spellman go. The first two are basically already declared.

Spellman might be smart to ride the wave of his stock right now. Although next year's draft class is supposedly weak.

Brunson and Bridges are almost definitely gone. Both graduating and Bidges a lottery pick, Brunson will play in the league a a serviceable backup PG.

Scuttlebutt is many will test without hiring an agent. Nothing to lose. Dont think Donte, Spellman or Pascall leave. Not sure if at this point any would be guaranteed 1st round money. Probably the Josh Hart playbook. One more year being "the guy" and improving stock. BUT, you never know.

Booth is interesting. I also believe he is critical. His return to the lineup re-ignited the focus on defense. He too gratuates. If he stays, he starts his Master's. He could also transfer as a grad Student ....unlikely. Given his injury history, does he jump to pros overseas while he still can make some $ or does he finally get a full, injury free season in?

Donte redshirted a year correct? That would make him 21 years old. If I were him I would test the waters. Just because “draft experts” aren’t projecting him in mock drafts doesn’t mean much. Tre is in several mock drafts, but who is the better pro prospect, Trevon or Donte? Pretty sure it’s Donte and it’s not close.
