Chris Mack will NEVER NEVER NEVER coach at a school where hookers were provided to recruits and expose that history to his daughters, who love basketball. Lo'ville's chances of landing him are NONE to NONE.
How many of you who thinks he is leaving are actually from here? He's a North College Hill, St. X guy. It's a GCL thing. Still hangs out with his grade school friends. He's the king. Making great money (maybe more). And he's at a DESTINATION place; not a stepping stone. None of the other guys who left were FROM HERE. Just think-if he were the coach at UMass right now and had a chance to come back here, the national media would jump on it in a minute. "He's got a chance to GO HOME". It's used all the time when talking about coaching changes. XU hoops has not even come close to hitting the ceiling. He was personally offended by the stupid question about "the end of an era" and invoked Larkin, Hill, Posey, West and Grant. That right there told me he's not going anywhere.

Take over for a program that is going to be on probation. Although he may want to buy 4 new Bugatti’s a year and I am not sure he can do that on a Xavier salary.

This is such a short-sighted statement. First of all, they may be on probation for a year, at most, 2.
Louisville is as close to a blue blood as you can get, if not already considered one...the difference between being a coach at Louisville and being a coach at Xavier is significant, and it's not just money. With that, comes more challenges but it also comes with a lot more perks. What Mack or any other coach needs to decide is if the pros outweigh the cons. Some of you really need to take off the blinders and realize there are a ton of pros along with the cons.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't know Chris and what really makes him tick. However, I will say that money is probably way down the line in terms of the decision to take the Louisville job or not. I'm sure its a decision making point, but doubt it is number one or two.
With all that said, you compound 3 million vs 5 million and the difference starts to get pretty significant over 5-10 years.

Compound 3 million over 10 years vs 7 million over 4 years(which is the amount of time he has to be successful at ville before they fire him) Xavier could be worth a more in the long run. If he leaves X will be fine. I would have no problem with him leaving. With that said I don’t think

This is always such a weird place for us working people to be in.
We see the coach of our favorite team making, reportedly with his raise, around $3M a year. Then, we hear another school could offer $5M a year. Meanwhile, we're all sitting in our offices making way less money than either of those figures. It's easy to say "what's the difference?", but put yourself in Chris' shoes.. The guy has worked his ass off and he's at the pinnacle of his profession. It's fun to be courted by someone else. Louisville is going to tell him how great he is and back up the Brinks truck. It's natural to go through that process and enjoy it.
$5M is a lot more than $3M. Is that $2M difference enough to take Chris away from his hometown and his alma mater? I guess we'll find out, but please stop saying "what's the difference?"... That's a LOT of money.

If he is smart, YES!! My grandpa made several decisions fincially and geographically to make sure there was no doubt that not only his kids, but his grand kids would be taken care of and given every opportunity to succeed. I will now make those same decisions in order to ADD to what he did and continue that legacy and ability to provide for the future generations of my family rather than be content with what I have now.

When taxes are taken into account, difference is probably a mere $1.2M annually. Not chump change but sounds a lot less than $2M annual difference. I agree with previous posters that does he really want to subject daughters to the circus? Lots of upside but also tremendous pressures to succeed. I don't think its happening at least not Louisville but shat do I know?

Every coach that has been at X is about to be out of the game. Miller is prob gone soon. How many more people need to leave X and find themselves without a job before you say maybe it’s not worth it. 2 million is a ton of money but it comes down to job security for me. Barring a complete collapse he probably is safe here for a long time. Whatever he chooses I have nothing bad to say about him. I wish him the best and if he does leave then we move on.

I think he'd have a pretty safe first 5 years in Louisville depending on probation, and outcomes tbh. But I don't know, it's a lot of money, and I can't blame him for entertaining that thought. I think Mack is a better X's and O's guy than Matta and Miller, I don't know if that's recency bias, or whatever, but it's in my mind. Also, Mack's keeping Xavier at this high level in a big boy conference as opposed to A-10, etc. I think that also would come into play, it's not like we're a mid-major team or anything, we're playing tough competition game in and game out, that's why I believe Mack would succeed if he left. My two cents.
This is such a short-sighted statement. First of all, they may be on probation for a year, at most, 2.

I know Chris' parents. First class people with happiness values that are not primarily based on $$$. In fact, his Dad has a history of employment based upon what he wants to do and what he can contribute, even if it means less money. I am certain they have set an example.
And as to the 5 mil vs. 6 mil issue, 3 mil x20 years beats 5 mil for 5 or 10 years and I could live well on either.
Also, he knows X is a great fit. He can only guess how Louisville would be.
That's actually Kentucky. A very accurate description of Kentucky, too.

That assumes both tracks are similar with respect to balancing level of success with expectations, and what that means for surviving the job.
Which track has the more patient disposition? The answer is Xavier's track.
If it is reasonable to argue that it is more probable that his "life expectancy" at Xavier will make it the full 10 years, then the aggregate figure is $30 mil. All that assumes his energy and passion for X stays where it is such that he continues to achieve success as he's been doing, hopefully getting to a NC win at some point.
If he lasts 6 years at UL, he matches what the Xavier track has to offer, with these assumptions being made about compensation. Let's forgot about the time value of money in all this.
We throw these differences in ANNUAL COMPENSATION out like they're candy at Halloween. The annual comp is the multiplicand, right? The question is what the multiplier might end up being.
It isn't a forgone conclusion that anyone is going to last at the 'ville for 10 years, notwithstanding UL's track record with coaches up to now. Times have changed. And that program is a mess.
And, frankly, we all have our perceptions. When it comes to UL, I see nothing but dirty. I see that in their football coach. And we certainly have witnessed that with their basketball program. WIN AT ALL COSTS and BLUE BLOOD programs don't go hand in hand with me, and I do understand that some of the other so-called blue bloods can be hot messes as well.

Not saying this is the case with your friends daughter, but I dont think high schools kids get nearly enough (good) guidance on what a is a good thing to get a degree in. Parents (mostly), counselors, teachers, do kids that young a big disservice letting them go into some of the dumb BS majors there are out there. Then they come out with tons of debt and no job prospects and are surprised why they cant find a job with that art degree.

Lived this recently with step-daughter. Went to SCPA (Performing Arts in Cincy). Wanted to major in ballet. Looked at IU ($35K + R/B) and Butler ($40K + R/B) and didn't even want to think about UC (you know where this is going). She was accepted into both schools but not the ballet programs (did not know that Butler had such a good/competitive program). Well the day she was accepted into CCM was about the only day I ever said "YES. GO BEARCATS". The deal was I pay all tuition. She pays everything else. I thought this was a good deal. Then about 3 weeks before school started she decided she wanted to live on campus. I said "That's nice. How are you going to pay for it?" To make an already too long of a post a little shorter - she had @ $25K in loans and I covered the rent and part of the tuition. She's a smart kid but was adamant about this major. She's working in a fitness club now.

I totally get that. She’s not “hungry”, but she is brilliant. Being hungry is what made her dad so successful as a software guy. He too is brilliant, but he grew up in a trailer park and saw people come to repossess his TV. She grew up in a million dollar plus house.
When we get back to Florida we often stay at their “beach house” they paid $1.6 mil for. They will tear it down soon and have plans for a new palace they will build on the site. There is something to be said for being hungry!

I must have spent 250K Delta Skymiles on her over the years and prob another couple of grand on airfare. Oh and I gave her a car. But I sense this underlying disdain towards me since I "do well". Reading these really make me so blessed about all my parents have done for me to be honest, I'm only 25, I went to Xavier on a half ride, my dad paid roughly $14-15k a semester for me when I had a full ride to WVU (hell with all the scholarships, they would have paid me $2,000 a semester), and he really wanted me to go there, but he respected my decision, and allowed me to choose where I wanted to go, he's supported me throughout medical school never asking for a single penny in return, while paying off all the other expenses, food, rent, etc. I've told him numerous times how thankful I am, and how I'm going to get through school and make sure I can retire him and allow for him to spend for any other expenses, but he's also done the undergrad route with my 3 older sisters as well. We aren't disgustingly wealthy or anything, but he does always put forth anything to make sure we reach our educational goals, and for that, I can't say enough. Sure, I had a job starting at 15 years old in order to understand the value of a dollar and to know what work ethic means, but no matter what I needed, I was so lucky to be provided with.
Hopefully your step daughter will understand what a blessing you are for even doing what you have so far, because that's an incredible feat, and I strive to be a father one day exactly like my father, and like you to not only teach my child a good work ethic, but to be able to support them into following their dreams, and striving for greatness. She may never say it, but people like you and Xu82 are great parents, and great humans.

first post in 4 years.....
Are you still supremely confident Mack is going nowhere?
I need someone with confidence to say he's staying! Even if its all based in opinion.

I still believe he is staying.
People have mentioned a few reason why they think he is. Another one that really has not been brought up is, the Mack Family Foundation, which I think is less than 2 years old. The whole Mack Family is ingrained in the community, it means a lot.

Hes staying.
1) He just bought a sweet new pad last summer
2) Louisville uncertainties
3) Rumor has it he does not like fanbase criticism. Would be 100x worse at Louisville
4) Who wants to be that close to in laws?

You're wavering! I was hoping for your usual, "Mack isnt going anywhere" response.
All the way up to today I have felt he would stay but I'm starting to feel the other way.
Ugh.

Well, the Mack Family Foundation can keep working in Cincinnati, and they can also do work in Louisville, which would probably mean a lot to Christi and her family. Plus, they'd have more resources available.
I have no idea whether he's staying or going or whether Louisville is even interested, by the way.

Reports are out there that he is meeting with the Louisville interim AD today. Doesn't mean he is gone, but not a great sign.

Not sure if the source is super-reliable though.

Again, why would anyone with a brain not listen and consider this? I don't think that him meeting with Tyra is a sign either way if it is in fact true. I have headhunters reach out to me quite a bit and though I am happy where I am at, it would be stupid of me to not at least listen to what they have to say.

ESPN radio down there said he met with Mack in cincy the other day, then corrected himself and said might not have been in cincy. So many reports out there, most of the BS. I dont think it surprising Mack would meet with him though. Also dont think if he does it means anything about it being a done deal.

It can, but it was set up to give back to his community. Personally I think many look way to much at Christi being from Louisville as a big reason they would leave. They have a great support system in Cincinnati, and it's a short easy drive to Louisville, esp from NKY where they live.

No doubt, but they'd also have a great support system in Louisville, and it would be an easy drive to Cincinnati, especially from Prospect where they would likely live.

Really, just how much financial security do you need? For future generations? He's going to be making gobs of money no matter what. His children are ALREADY going to be set for life. You really think he's looking at 2-3 generations down the line......
I dont know what you do or what you make but if your competitor offers you 2 or 3 times your salary you are gone hands down. If you own a business and you're offered a significant buy out you are gone. Why would you think Mack is different

No one can honestly argue that. I would be shocked if UL offers 2x what X offers. Let’s say X offers 3, that means UL would need to offer 6. Which would make Mack the 5th highest paid coach in all of CBB. I’d be shocked if they went this high, especially with “so many UL fans not being sold on Mack” as has been discussed by other UL fans on this board.
The point of discussion is when the spread is much tighter. Let’s say the offers are X @ $3M and UL @ 4M, but higher incentives at UL. This is the range I think the offers lie and why it hasn’t been settled one way or another yet.

Not necessarily....I’ve actually changed jobs and taken a significant pay cut. I was more interested in being a part of families life and in reducing my commuting time and working time by several hours a week, than I was in making tons of money. Best decision I ever made. It was a decision I made when I was in my 40’s. I might not have made the same decision when I was in my 30’s. Money can’t buy you happiness. It’s not like Mack isn’t going to make more money than he probably ever imagined if he stays a X. He is a rich man either way.

Exactly my point. If the offers are “close” it comes down to how much does he value his life here in NKY. And none of us know that or could blame him for leaving if the offers aren’t close.

Bottom line: Mack wants a new challenge. A different challenge. Done. That's all there is to it.
With the four seniors we're losing and the total whiff on this recruiting class, he's going to make a move and take on the challenge of coaching Louisville.

A challenge it will be with scholarship reductions and additional potential penalties.......

It would be better for us if these were going to be more immediate and not years away. Chris Mack might go to a final 4 with them before any sanctions are levied. At minimum they will have at least one tourney under their belt before any sanctions.

Add to this the NCAA's special counsel will make their recommendations this summer. Far in front of when the FBI's big case will be closed. Those potential sanctions are so far down the line and supposedly so widespread, no1 should give them much thought.

He’s gone. He himself confirmed he is meeting with louisvlle over the weekend, so why would anything official have happened?
