How long has Schmidt been there now? Seems like a while.
When Skip left for Wake Schmidty took head coach job at Robert Morris (2001-02) & moved on to SBU 2007-08 taking over when Jim Barron went to URI. Jeff Massey had been on staff. Mark was very disappointed he did not receive consideration from XU when Sean was hired & to certain extent when Chris was hired. He & Chris are freinds. Mark secretly covets the job at BC.

Those plays were certainly bad, but Gonzaga rattles home a three while Greenboro's was about an inch long. Not to mention Kuiper's toenail being on the line for the one three, and a turnover that I'm 95% sure was out on Gonzaga but happened before it was reviewable. Many missed opportunities. First round games are so hard to judge how a team will play the rest of the way. Really wanted to see Gonzaga lose because I doubt they shoot this bad rest of tournament. With that said, I just don’t see many teams in our bracket that really scare me. There is no reason X can’t be in the title game against Nova. Be a great way to finally get that Monkey off our backs. Kansas is done next round and honestly I think Gonzaga is too. UC will lose tomorrow as well.

Watched most of this game. The North Carolina team had every chance to pull this out. I realize the Zags could put the peddle to the metal next game and they better do it or Ohio St will take them down. The Zags stomped us last year to get to the Final 4, but Ohio St knocked us out in the 2nd round back in the day when we managed to blow a 9 or 10 pt lead in the final 3 minutes. If Justin Cage makes his 2nd FT with about 8 seconds left, no way Ohio St wins that game. Either of these teams would be a good revenge game, but I sure like the all Ohio matchup. Comments on Zags strengths, weaknesses appreciated. Same for the Buckeyes.

Probably not.
It's not so much how good the conference is. It's the power those leagues have within the NCAA governance to basically be able to do whatever they want in several areas whether the other 27 conferences like it or not. To me that's where the term "POWER" 5 really means.

Welp, they both got 3 bids. About the same. I can't even say that the AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAC has better coaches, except maybe Sampson, but even that is questionable. Oh, that's right. YTG was named Coach of the Year by Mike DeCoursey, that no one puts any stock in.
The Lexus drove off the road into Grand Canyon. It may never recover. They have basically no roster coming back and with the scandals, recruiting is in the tank. I root for all Big East teams to do well through the Sweet 16. I stop rooting for Butler at that point.
This is an interesting point. I can see myself wanting Butler to not make it past a certain point until Xavier makes it to a Final Four at least. I can support this line of thought.

I mean, Wichita State won 6 NCAA Tournament games after their Final Four run, including wins over Indiana, Kansas and Arizona. And lost by one possession to Kentucky two of those years. They struggled all year this year, but they've been pretty legit since 2013. They're no VCU.

Gonzaga is good and has the type of length that can bother Trevon on the wing (ala Providence) but their guards (while good) aren't the jet quick penetrators that can really dice up X's defense. I think it is the type of game where X's versatility (which despite the lack of consistency this season, I think is one of X's real strengths) could be huge. Kaiser would need to pull his head out of his ass. But hey, I think sometimes we forget that when teams draw X they probably look at our roster and worry.

Michigan State is a funny tournament team under Izzo. Their "good" teams (1, 2,and apparent 3 seeds) go out early. It's when they are lower seeds, like a 5 or a 7, that they get to the Final Four.

My best friend here at school went to Michigan State, and he told me before the game he had an absolutely sick feeling in his stomach. He was like "I know Cuse is gonna play zone, you know it, hell even my Mom probably knows it, but we're terrible against it." and was absolutely right. I have no idea how Tom Izzo, the caliber of that type of coach, cannot get his guys to break a zone properly. The big guy from State caught it at the free throw line numerous times and did not put up a single shot there, something you see so often, it was very painful to watch. Granted State shot awful, but they looked lost against the zone.

On the sour grapes front of the March Madness stuff, I'm about flat fed up with all these talking heads.
I'd like to relax and enjoy our accomplishments: #3 RPI, #3AP ranking, playing in the #2RPI conference, etc.
But instead I've to listen to how over seeded we are, don't deserve the 1, blah, blah, blah....
I don't know what's going to happen. Whatever it is, I'll be damn happy and damn proud.
But an added bonus would be for Bilas and Vitale to have to suck on our presence in the FF for a long, long time.

Yep - we're just going to have to bust down that FF door. Journey continues in a couple of hours. I just hope we shoot as well as did Friday.

I know UC is up 12 but with this pace they could be in trouble. This is a Nevada pace. If UC goes cold watch out.

Nevada is also ice cold. I think UC cruises to the final four.

Nevada scores points and is getting good looks. UC on fire at line and Nevada missing. Will flip and should get interesting.
