Nevada scores points and is getting good looks. UC on fire at line and Nevada missing. Will flip and should get interesting.

Hope so, but I have my doubts.

YTG in the presser: “We had a lot of wide open shots we didn’t make. Then it got close and real physical around the rim. Some of the stuff that was going on down there was unbelievable. I’ll just leave it to you...”.

Well, Mick. You’re team can’t shoot because you don’t have a respectable set up and your O schematics suck.
Then you sound like you’re blaming the refs for NOT calling fouls AGAINST your physical team.

What. A. Troll. And LOSER too!

Xavier has had more talented teams than this one. Yes we had talent, but we didn’t have anyone that could breakdown a defense on the dribble, and the defense has mostly been garbage all season. I hope Scruggs can turn into a guy that can penetrate the defense along with Marshall and q. Blueitt, Macura very one dimensional payers though extremely good at that one dimension

In my opinion, that 08 team was far more talented than this one.

That is why I think next years team will be better than people think. Paul, Q and Naji have potential
To blow right by you to get to the rim. Xavier will be much more athletic next year. They will have a ton of potential. Problem this year was Trevon and JP, as good as they were, especially Trevon, was that they struggled to get to rim off dribble and struggled defensively. Everyone worries about shooting but even this years team was not that great, other than Tre.

Don’t we have that? Evan Boudreaux averaged 17 and 9 at Dartmouth and shot over 40%, his freshman year and 35% his sophmore year from 3.

How is Xavier going to be much more athletic next year? We've been hearing for the past couple years how Xavier is going to be better defensively because X is getting longer and more athletic and the defense hasn't improved at all. We will have ZERO consistent outside threats next year.

The incoming class is one of the worst on paper in a long time. No big time athletes in that class.

I think we'll be good next year, but middle of the pack BE and probably a 8-10 seed at best.

What really gripes me is that a lot of these crappy announcers were "apparently" correct about us being over-seeded, and bound to go down early.
I probably wanted (too much in hindsight) for these guys to choke on that as we moved on. Not to be.

But..if there is any bright spot to this, it's the #1 seed forced them to acknowledge our program far more than they normally would. It was a validation of all the effort the program/people over the years have invested...fans included.
It had our name constantly in front of millions of fans, every time brackets were discussed, posted on TV, etc. Over and over they heard Xavier. There is enormous value for the brand in that free airtime.

Took Kansas -5. Sucked. Took Nova -5 and took them -2.5 for the second half. Felt the odds of a Nova second half run was pretty likely with Bridges sitting a lot in first half. Nova doesn’t have a senior. Scary. Does any of Brunson, Spellman or Bridges come back? Wouldn’t shock me if they all came back...

Bridges is tough, definitely there, Brunson may play his way into the late first round with the tournament, might be a second rounder, they have some crazy talent, and some absolute sharp-shooters, they're so frustrating to watch, because they get it done. I'd like to see a Nova/Duke match-up in the Final 4, would love to see what they could do against Duke's athleticism.

Watching their pace and space offense this tournament its hard to believe they aren't a top 20 KenPom offensive team. They really have it clicking. Whipping the ball around, all 4 guards can blitz guys off the bounce, and everyone can shoot it. Wish I had any of their regular season to compare.

Indiana
Ohio State

Let's hope so, I'd love to see a Duke/Nova match up as I said before, I think that'd be a really fun offensive game to watch in the Final 4. Of course they have to take care of Kansas, but I think Nova has the shooters to break Duke's 2-3 zone, and can hang with them offensively, I also think winner of that game is going to be our National Champion.

Nova should be up by 30. Why don't they ever have an offensive game like this against us? I know TT plays better defense, but Nova is missing shots they never miss against us.

I think the scary part is they are playing terribly on offense and still up 11, granted we usually shoot better than Tech, but yeah it truly is maddening to watch Nova play lights out against us and then have performances like this against other teams. Hopefully next year will break the Nova curse and they come back down to earth against us.

For the Loyola/Moser trashers out there:
Record vs KenPom Tier A/B, pre-NCAA Tournament:

6-4 Loyola-Chicago
11-10 Kansas State
10-13 Oklahoma
7-12 Syracuse

One of these teams knew, heading into their conference tournament, that they were not going to be considered for an at-large bid.

What a bummer that Allen missed the two threes to seal their fate. Not to mention the leaner in regulation. I look at Duke Kansas like the Iran Iraq war (can they both lose) but in the end glad Kansas won. Macura compared to Allen so much (I think Allen better but not by a ton) and I did not want to be reminded of it all week with Duke playing. The pace of this game was incredible but man it would have been nice to see if an inspired X could have kept up with either team in the final 4. Damn, we will never know

Agreed, Wright runs a clean program from all accounts, and has guys who play so damn hard, and are unselfish. Any given night one of them can go off for 20. He recruits guys with a "killer" mentality, they know how to close opponents out and they know how to win games. Unreal.

Wright is a big part of what they got. Before the game last night, one of the announcers mentioned attending a Nova practice this week. He noted the attention to detail.

Yeah Brunson should be gone, Bridges will be a lottery pick at this rate. Spellman is trending upwards and will probably test the draft waters, DiVincenzo is back, they get that 5 star PG Quinnerly, Cole Swider, and another ESPN top 50 recruit. They're reloading and may be just as dangerous next year if they're freshman are as good as advertised. Jay Wright has really build a well oiled monster up there, they looked like the Golden State of college basketball hitting from everywhere and playing great unselfish team basketball, man he has a winners mentality. I think John Beilein is a great coach who gets the most out of his players in a very unique style. They have been achieving really well in the tournament since he's been the Michigan coach. But to think Michigan didn't have to beat a top 5 team to get to the final sort of shows how Nova got a great matchup for them. Michigan just got by their opponents, so it wasn't like they were a dominant team. Nova is clearly dominant, but also Michigan never really had a chance over the full 40 minutes.

If college basketball does what they did in the NIT with making the lane and the three point line more like international basketball, there is a chance that Nova wouldn't have such a strong threat with those three point shots. Of course, they had to make them, but lots of people are arguing that where the line is now is too easy for lots of shooters.

Masterofreality

Leave the 3 point line where it is. The offense is back in College Basketball and the games are more exciting without the old clogged lane slugfests.

Also helps that Golden State kind of created a revolution with spacing the floor and having a bunch of shooters, Nova took that blueprint to the T and successfully implemented it in their run, hell even Marshall runs an offense like that, which is how they knocked off Witchita State. I don't see a bunch of kids chucking from 3 stopping anytime soon. I sure as hell hope they do learn how to break a damn 2-3 zone though, most frustrating thing to watch in the tournament.

Do you think the tournament should be re-seeded between rounds? Or at least re-seeded at sweet 16 and Final four? Not sure it would have made much difference in the final four. You'd just have had Nova crush Kansas in the championship rather than in the FF.

To be honest, I couldn't remember the Scottie Reynolds days from Nova, even watching them in the "old Big East", I always knew they had tough guards, but unfortunately not enough space in my brain to remember how they played, but regardless, it's watching poetry in motion
