What are the requirements to be in the NIT?

Can St. Johns receive an invite with a losing record? I wonder if Georgetown will get an invite since they finished above .500 and have a name that means something still.

I am hoping that Marquette actually gets an NCAA invite. That would mean 7 of 10 in the Big Dance and perhaps Georgetown in the NIT.

Would St. Johns or DePaul consider the CBI or CIT or is that not something the league wants to be a part of?

I don't think there are any requirements to be selected. If a team is 1st in their conference, but the lose in the conference tournament, and don't get selected as an at large bid for the NCAA tournament, then they get in the NIT Automatically. Currently there are 6 such teams, but people seem to think MTSU will get in.

The rest of the slots are just at-large bids done by a committee just like the NCAA tournament.
