Gotta wonder how much more time he has left.

I left at halftime on Friday when they were down 36 at half. I have never seen the Lady Muskies look worse.

It was definitely a tough weekend at home, no doubt.

Depending on how well his current recruiting class is (with a few McDonalds All-American nominees), he might get a little more time. But right now, apathy is kicking in for the program and that is not good.

We went as a family to the Nova game on Friday night. We looked absolutely pathetic. No outside shooting. Missing countless layups. No energy from the team. I think the Brian Neal experiment needs to be defunded immediately.

At the Steak Fry he was not asked one question. I can’t ever recall that before.

Been a men's season ticket holder since 2000. Took my nieces to women's games back in the Amber Harris days. Did not know who Brian Neal was until I started reading this thread.

No doubt he inherited a mess when he took over, but five years is enough time to get a program back together, and that hasn't happened. Years two and three showed glimpses, but the past season and a half have been abysmal. Most of the wins over the past couple of years are the result of an embarrassingly weak nonconference schedule.

I was there too and it was very awkward. I felt bad for the guy.

I left at halftime and I have NEVER done that. It was unwatchable.

That the formula the past 2 seasons, play weak NC schedule and then get crushed in league play.

My expectations were really low coming into this season. You're just not going to win very many games with a team of mostly freshmen and sophomores, and the upperclassmen we do have played only sparingly last season.

Having said that, losing by 39 at home is unacceptable, no matter the circumstances.

Now, I do like the incoming class coming in next year. I know the staff is focusing on recruiting size, and 4 of the 5 commits are McDonald's nominees.

They played much better at Seton Hall last night - alas, they couldn't complete the comeback on the road.

They scored a whopping 36 point today!

That doesn't seem good. And I see that St. John's is basically a mid-pack Big East team. Tough situation for sure.

Another disastrous performance last night and likely he same for Sunday. At least they sell beer.

It could be worse. UConn could have joined the Big East.

When you've become as bad as this program right now, it doesn't make any difference where UConn plays.

GoMuskies

Yes, but losing by 70 to UConn twice would be pretty soul crushing.

UConn is one thing - getting crushed at home by Nova and Georgetown is another. That's what launched this thread to begin with.

Sure, all I said is it could be worse. And if UConn was in the league it would be.

My question is: What happened to the University's high standard and expectations regarding women's basketball? Have priorities changed? We have turned into UC.

I just don't understand.

At this point, Coach Neal had better hope that:

1. This year's freshmen make a big jump next year
2. Next year's incoming class greatly exceeds expectations.

Given his track record so far, I am extremely skeptical.

As an illustration of my "it could be worse" position, UConn beat Wichita State 124-43 on Saturday. Wichita State is 70 spots ahead of Xavier in the RPI.

The mess that the women are in is Greg Christopher's biggest challenge right now. The women are Supposed to be a revenue producing sport but it is a total dumpster fire. Getting a good young aggressive coach in there should be paramount.

That being said, UCon is making the entire women's game a joke. It is unwatchable. There is no drama or suspense on who will win the National Championship.

Which is why the honestly shouldn't allow all the best players to go to one school every year. I know that opens a huge set of other challenges, but women's college basketball is a joke right now.

And for what its worth, I would really like to know how many schools actually budget for their teams to be in the black. I cant imagine its any more than 10 or so.

I think Louisville could beat UConn tonight. Or at least make it a very good game. UConn is still the best, but this year they're not that much better than the others.

Mississippi State has room on their bandwagon - they're still unbeaten and were the last team that beat UConn.

Honestly, if you were to look at basketball and other Olympic sports for Xavier, women's hoops is the only program that doesn't have a glimmer of hope for success at the moment. Hell, this week we'll finally have baseball season beginning with a 3-game series at Florida State.

I missed game on Sunday but I heard the Ladies played well against DePaul and there was a controversial call at the end of the game. Anyone go and can explain it?

Season is over with a loss in the play-in game in the Big East Tournament. The final numbers are 10-20 and 3-15 in the Big East, with only two wins in calendar 2018.

I assume if there is no announcement made today or tomorrow, he's getting another year. This stretch would never be acceptable for our men's program and it shouldn't be here, either.

UC lost by 54 to UConn today, and it wasn't that close. That would be worse.

That was UC's best team in about a decade and a half, yet Xavier somehow beat them this year.

What sport at Xavier would this be acceptable? I know they were young this season and lost several games by single digits. That could be the only factor that saves him.

My guess is Greg is a little busy at the moment but it's interesting there has been no announcement about Brian Neal.

Cincinnati has fired Jamelle Elliott. The Bearcats won 19 games and went to the WNIT this year, but were 113-162 under her overall.

Not to mention they improved considerably while not playing a single game on campus.

My gut feeling says Neal gets one more year to try to turn the program around before hitting the reset button.

Chris Mack could be saving Brian Neal’s job right now.

Totally agree. My guess Neal just bought himself another year due to the Mack situation.

It’s worth noting that I believe that this is the final year of his contract. If things don’t go well again, he will likely be replaced.
