Sounds about right to me - Marquette is far from a gimme.

They also played Villanova tough in Philly, so they're certainly not going to come in to Cintas intimidated.

We owe them a little revenge for the azz kicking they gave us at Cintas last year. That game was UGLY. We gave up 1.34 PPP.

He’s their JP. You hate him when he’s on the other team, but love him when he’s on yours.

Bingo. I call on the Cintas Circus to not make the same mistakes that the Seton Hall students did last weekend.

You could say this for every game in Cintas Center the rest of the way, but this is a must win if X is gonna have a shot at the Big East Championship.

I am thinking more short term. This is the "soft portion" of our BE schedule and X must capitalize tonight and make a big move in the polls come Monday....THEN next week beat 2 bottom feeders and go where NO XAVIER team has gone before.....freakin' #1 on 2/5!!! It's time to start making history....GO X!!

Why is our RPI Ranking under 'Rankings' different from what it is under 'RPI Rankings Through 1/23'?

GetUp5

I'd quote your post but then that monster picture would post again...

I imagine the difference is that the RPI Ranking under "rankings" is a ranking from the beginning of the week. Through 1/23 is a "live" ranking.

agreed, we have a big head after seton hall..this lead could be 20 but we are contesting without fouling which is good. Scruggs is a revelation. Just play solid, watch Utah Jazz films from 98 and do nothing flashy that is not needed.
By the way Howard is incredible..he can get to paint at will against good defense and his touch is ridiculous. If it is on the rim it is in.

Goodin has been doing a good job most of the time versus Howard, but man, Howard is hitting some tough shots. And they keep going to him, because no one else can do anything.

So I got a really dumb question. To last second heaves before halftime always count as shots? Just curious if they always do if the result matters. Like if it is a horrible hairball do they not count a shot or does it only count if it hits the rim? Just something ive always wondered if scorers manipulate to not hurt stats

There's a pretty funny segment of NBA twitter that posts clips of guys practicing the art of holding the ball an extra tenth of a second so they don't hurt their FG percentage.

Was thinking the same thing. We have been incredibly lucky/fortunate as alumni and fans of a program that has not only continued to get better but also consistently achieved at a high level for more than 30 years now. Yet we still have fans with no trust and faith, who pounce on a player like Scruggs, unwilling to give the kid any time to develop. Must be great to be perfect!

Markus Howard is good at offense.

So I didn't watch, but I'm looking at the box score, and I saw Howard had 33 and I was like "DEAR GOD HOW DID WE WIN" but then I saw he put up 27 shots, and went 3-10 from 3 point land, so it makes sense. Having them shoot 26% from deep for the game is a good recipe for success. But my favorite part of the box score was seeing Q have 15, and Scruggs getting 10, with as much shit as they get, I'm glad they had good games, and hopefully it's the start of that for the rest of the season (though I highly doubt Q will shoot 3-3 from 3 ever again)

drudy23
01-24-2018, 10:32 PM
Howard did have 27 shots, but he was very efficient. He did whatever he wanted in the first half. He's every bit of the stud on offense as his stats indicate. In saying that, that's how bad they are on defense. Atrocious.

5 players in double figures. This may have been the best all around game X has played this year, just a thorough beatdown. I know Marquette's defense is not their strong suit by any stretch, but the stat that is the most encouraging to me - other than Goodin going 3-3 from 3's - is ZERO turnovers for Paul Scruggs in 19 minutes of play. He's really looking more comfortable and confident.

No-no... it's not a dumb question to ask if "hairballs" are not counted as a shot. But I am pretty sure the answer is no.

This is the best X has played as a team maybe all year.

They all moved well and hustled for loose balls, hustled to be in position to create disruption to Marquette's offense, hustled to pick players pockets, hustled to get separation and become open, hustled to crash the boards and get rebounds. There was great chemistry, some nice passes and our young guys were particularly good tonight. This is the type of X play that could take down Villanova, even if Booth didn't get injured.

Bravo to the players and to the coaches for their tremendous effort and result!

Nice to see the turnovers limited tonight.

Obviously, turnovers always cause heartburn. But I feel like this season a little more so than other years. Simply because the offense is so efficient, and to see the team stop themselves when their opponent often cannot is frustrating.

Good overall team win. Congrats Tre.

It's hard to credit defense for a win when you put up 89, but Naji Marshall deserves a shout out for shutting down Rowsey. And kudos to Mack for going with that matchup from the start. Naji's quickness and size on the perimeter is a special combination.

Whenever we went one on one...we scored. It looked to me like our guards and bigs could get the ball on the rim at will with very little resistance. As offensively dynamic as Rowsey and Howard are, their lack of size and strength killed them defensively. Watching Ivan Drago try to guard our bigs in the paint looked unfair at times.

If Q can string together a couple games making a 3, the middle will really open up b/c opposing PG's have to close out instead of sagging.
