I thought Providence looked really good today. X has a lot to work on.

Gates must be hurt too. Maybe they should sit him while we’re at it and play one of the walk on’s. Tre is fine and he won’t sit. But he does need to move more and let the game come to him. He is really pressing for some reason. Either way if they thought he was hurt, they wouldn’t keep running him out there. They are not dumb.

Agreed. X was not great by any stretch and poor in some areas, but they definitely took PC's best punch IMO.

I see an early tournament exit in our March future. If we let Providence score on 7 straight possessions how can we make key stops vs good teams
Providence was a tournament team last year and return mostly their whole team so this is a stupid statement.

Providence is a team that CAN be an NCAA Tournament team this year, but they've got a lot of work to do to get to that point. Losing to UMass is the one that really stings this year.

I was at game and except for Q's 3 on an inside/out pass from Tyrique we did make a single non layup in the half.. Jones and Kanter scored every point(except for a macura layup from banter) and took every foul shot. They must have really stuck with Trevon off ball but I dont remember ever seeing a half with one outside shot(and that was in first minute of half)

I would agree with you on that.

Agreed.
X will take Butler, SJU, Seton Hall, and Georgetown's best punch too on their home court.

This is probably way off the mark. It's just an impression I have from the game.
It seemed to me that Providence took, and was able to make a good number of what are called "mid range" jump shots, inside the arc.
If we were in man-to-man, they would drive...and stop and shoot.
Almost against the current grain of offensive philosophy, which emphasizes the 3, and if you drive..go all the way to the hoop for shot/and-or foul.
Also, looking at the shot chart, when we were in zone and they rotated around it, or they went inside out, ALL their made 3's came from one side of the court.

they were able to back up Kanter especially on his heels which is a payback for his punishment down low. I was there and Isiah Jackson was able to back him up and go up for uncontested 17 footers it seemed that hardly touched the net. The 1-3-1 gives up corner 3's. The lefty cartwright lived in the lane, pivoted around and either hit 14 foot shots or fed the corner. Very similar to the left handed brunson

What happened to Sean M.??
I think he is still the HC at Arizona.

To recap, three other top five teams lost this past weekend. Is anyone still freaking out over losing at Providence?
I am disappointed because it was a winnable quality conference road game with marginally better play, but let's move on. Winning at #1 Villanova is up next, no big deal.

We've not even sniffed a close game at Nova since we've been in the league. We typically get run out of the gym.........Agreed on the PU loss........but the odds of us winning Weds IMHO are about at about 2-3%.

Sure, but we've never played at THIS gym. Surely that will make all the difference!

The only difference will be keeping this one close with better D and taking care of the ball. Nova is going to really pressure us.

I'm not sure if people are freaking out, but there are some concerns. If we had been playing well the last few weeks, but lost at Providence on Saturday, that would be another story. However, this team has not played well for about a month, and Tre doesn't look right. Season is a lifetime, but X needs to raise their level of play. If they don't, this is a .500 team in conference, and I think everyone's expectations were higher than that for this team.

I think there are some pretty obvious trends developing for this team over the last several games.
1. Getting beat and behind in a lot of games in the 1st half. Mainly due to lazy ball handling, turnovers and porous D.
2. Tre does not seem right and has played like it the last several games. Is his shoulder hurting him more than we think?
3. Gates has not been himself since the concussion. We need him and his 3 pt shooting.
4. Not playing good team ball. Too much individual play and selfish shooting instead of running our offense and getting the best shot.
#5 Negative fan attitude getting worse.

Yes, I am. Not because we lost but the timing was freaking unbelievable! It would have been #1 vs #2 on Wednesday!
Can we all agree that from the AD down thru the coaches and players.....X is in the business of getting to the pinnacle of D1 men's basketball. It was a never before seen opportunity to do just that and it was pissed away.

Yep, but have to admit that this team has played rather uninspired for several games now....the last 5-6 they've not looked or played really well.

I thought they played well against Butler and Marquette.

I thought they played well against Butler and Marquette.Yep. A lot of Xavier fans don't seem to appreciate that winning AT Marquette was a really good win or beating Butler at home was a good win, especially since X controlled most of that game. Heck, when they won at UNI, UNI had been playing well at the time; their spirit just seems broken now by too many losses in a row (They lost a few, but then they started losing BADLY).
This team has been inconsistent and trying to find their groove. I'm confident they will. This is a really tough next game, though.
