I'm not trolling Butler here. I'm honestly asking this question.
I seem to remember us using the phrase "The Xavier Way" long ago. Of course proving who used it first is probably impossible, but why does Butler own this?
Initial google search found this, so I know we still use it today: https://www.xavier.edu/mission-identity/programs/The-Xavier-Way-Celebrating-a-Culture-of-Encounter.cfm

10/1/2002 "The Butler Way" trademarked.
2/1/2002 "The Xavier Way in a Provost website on the Xavier Site.
Thad also repeatedly said it. If I had to guess, I would say it was being talked about at Butler while Thad was there, then he came here and started using it as the Xavier Way. Then Butler saw that and trademarked it...just speculation and google searches...

Butler took it from Apple anyway. It’s not like they invented the phrase.

Imagine how Butler felt about 3-4 years ago when all the Adidas schools had "The _______ Way" T-shirts during March Madness.

If they find meaning in "The Butler Way," great, but they don't own the unoriginal idea.

Maybe I can help. The phrase goes back to the time of Barry Collier as coach but was used internally. With the program on the rise in the early 2000s it was heard some, but the enormous exposure of the back to back runs cemented the phrase with the national sports media. It can be overused on occasion, but the principles are solid and tough to argue with. Biggest complaint is that the media sometimes uses it to describe a style of play, which itÂ’s not. Although I suppose the principles, if adopted, contribute to a mindset about playing/competing. There ya go.

Thanks, now that you mention it I do remember Collier using the phrase locally.

Butler has been a great 30 year rivalry for the Muskies and their claim to this title came during their miraculous Gordon Hayward / NCAA run to the Championship game I believe (we're due!).

We'll see on Tuesday night if Butler fans are smart enough not to poke the bears.

I have the feeling the answer is going to be no, and JP is going to do something to piss their fans off. Again.
