Hi folks,

Myself and two buddies are driving from Chicago to Cincinnati to meet a friend that lives in Columbus for the Jays-Musketeers game in two Saturday's, the 13th. 2 PM start. Heard good things about the Cintas Center and with you guys having a great team and us having a good team, should make for a fun time, so we are all pumped about making the trek.

Wanted to drop in and find out what we should do pre-game? Want to grab lunch and beers somewhere, hopefully at a spot pretty authentic to Xavier and the fan base. All in our upper 20's and enjoy having a few beers and a fun atmosphere so was curious where people go? Also, I thought Cintas serves beer during XU games, correct?

In any event, hope to hear some recommendations. We go SJU, @ Georgetown, and Butler before you guys. Wishful thinking but would love to go 3-0 to make the atmosphere for the XU game pretty awesome. All three games last year between us were phenomenal. Thanks in advance!

I'd suggest Dana Gardens but I'm biased.

Welcome fellow Jesuit! For an authentic Xavier experience, to grab beers and some food, you MUST hit Dana Gardens. It is walking distance from the Cintas Center and it is THE bar for Xavier fans, students, and alumni. Be civil, and you will be treated well. Good natured back and forth to be expected, but our fans will pounce if you and your buddies act obnoxious.

We believe our arena is one of the best in the nation, and are proud of our tradition. Students return that weekend, so the place should be loud and rocking. Enjoy your trip.

Listerman's is a good spot close to the arena as well. They make their own craft beers and have decent food.

Sorry BJ.....

I would hit up Dana's before the game and Mad Tree brewery after it.

Honestly if you want to hang with X fans def Dana Gardens. If you want to avoid that I would hit up Madtree and Uber to the game then Uber down to OTR and get shitfaced. OTR is nothing but bars and restaurants and girls your age. Plus football playoffs will be going on. Have fun and I look forward to beating up on Doug’s Dad again.

Danas would be the most authentic Xavier experience, but if you want to eat there I would suggest getting there well before game time as it has a tendency to be very crowded on game day.

Thanks to Creighton for joining the league. Don't know how you handle such long travels. The BE should be thankful to get XU, Butler & Creighton. Without us 3 from the A10 & Mo Val I doubt the BE would be near what it has become since the football schools split. Hope all 3 of us make the Big Dance. Enjoy your stay & hope you meet good XU fans.

100% Dana's before the game. Would definitely get there early if you want to eat/sit down. Also, behind the visitor's bench, in the 2nd level, we have a new bar called "Norwood Cafe". You're in your 20's so you'll appreciate that they have $5 Nati Light drafts.

I must be becoming a wimp. If weather is anything like now, Dana's is not walking distance. Maybe when we were young and anesthesized?

X grad/Chicagoan. If I’m taking a newbie, here would be my plan.

Pre-game, Dana’s would give you an authentic Xavier experience. It’s “our dive.” And it’s nice to go there after being accustomed to Chicago prices.

Post game, I’d Uber down to Rhinegeist for a few beers, put your name in at Bakersfield for dinner (awesome taco spot), walk over to The Lackman for a cocktail, eat at Bake, then explore the rest of OTR.

The Banks - near the Reds Stadium - have good sports bars if you want to watch football (Tin Roof and Holy Grail).

Enjoy!

Don't forget Bellarmine chapel for a 15 minute rosary or 5 minute Divine Mercy chaplet.
Or adoration.
Be real authentic Catholics and Jesuits.

Hmmm. I'm going to be more efficient. It takes me 20 minutes for a full rosary and 10 minutes for the Divine Chaplet.

Speaking of watering holes I heard it from a very good source Ryan's Pub,on campus, will probably not open when classes resume next week. I also heard Subway and the Blue Gibbon next door will not reopen either. Apparently the students want more variety and Ryan's has been a sinking ship ever since Chris Mack's radio show left. It seems to be packed whenever there is a big game but last night would have been a good night to have it opened. Dana's is my first choice but it can get really packed so I tend to go to Stones Lanes. The problem with Stones Lanes is it attracts underclassmen and , presumably, underage drinking.

Interested to see what they bring in I guess? I would have killed to have the on campus food options that current students have.

Ryan's Pub certainly has been a revolving door in terms of tenants over the past few years. I think much of that has to do with GSC no longer being the epicenter of campus. My freshman year that was the place to hangout/study. Now, with the new business school, Alter renovations, and Conotan, that's not really the case. Would imagine the lack of foot traffic now really hurt them.

Welcome, fellow scholar. We covered Indiana in ice to make your drive scenic. If you are lucky, maybe the hills of Cincinnati will get iced too for adventure. Safe travels.

Indiana does quite well making their own ice and subsequent spin outs, crashes, and abandoned vehicles .. usually compounded by a construction zone or two. Lucky to use FF miles to jet over for the game today.

Not a prayer I say but I know those who do. You also hear it on Sacred Heart Radio [740 / 910 AM and 89.5 FM].

They broadcast a morning show from the Holy Spirit Center by St. Peter and Paul in Norwood.

Anything's possible. Acid was absolutely part of popular culture in the 1960's and beyond, just not sure acid was invented when she claims to have seen Jesus. Also, can never underestimate Aquinas' proof of God in the Summa Contra Gentiles. It's pretty impressive. If you don't know it, give it a read or listen to a podcast on the topic. It's definitely a visit back to Metaphysics class for me. Afterwards, St. Faustina's vision may be questionable to you, but it will be a more informed choice on your behalf. But, meh, you can always stay with anything's possible. It's easiest for sure.

Aquinas is a stud. As a matter of fact, I just got back from mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church here in Hell...er, Wichita. Believing in God and not believing in grilled cheese Jesus and having some questions about the mental state of any nun (much less one who claims Jesus appeared to her) are not mutually exclusive.

Metaphysics....the worst class possible with the worst teacher I ever had at X. Dickie Dumont. All he could do was talk about my dirty cap when I walked into his class every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00. His tests were about 5 pages long but only three questions. I made it through the entire class not even knowing what the hell metaphysics was.
