Heading to the game Friday with my brother. Any suggestions for good restaurants or things to do/see in the area? I get the sense that Cedar Falls/Waterloo isn't much of anything.

The university has about 12,000 students and the metro area is about 160,000. There have to be a few good sports bars to go to.

8 years after my commitment to Xavier, Chris Mack finally fulfills his promise to me by scheduling a game in my home state. I will be there in Section 105 (I think). Not any landmarks to see, but given the nature of the upper Midwest, there will be a plethora of watering holes for your hydration needs.

Drink the whiskey. Templeton Rye, obviously, kickstarted the rye renaissance. Cody Road Rye is about the best rye I have had. Cody Road also makes a great bourbon. If your route is I-80, you can stop in Le Claire and visit the distillery right on the Mississippi River (http://www.mrdistilling.com/).
Also, the World's Largest Truck Stop (https://iowa80truckstop.com/) is on that route. Rather amazing.

Sounds like we may be heading to single speed on Friday - hopefully we’ll see a few X fans there!

Biggest game of the year so far.
Best non conference opponent in their house.
X winning would be HUGE!

Hey Guys! UNI Fan and Waterloo/Cedar Falls resident here!
Couple of really good places in town to point you to. I see somebody mentioned SingleSpeed and that's a great choice. I would recommend the Waterloo location as its actually a redone Wonder Bread Bakery. Really neat concept, good beer, good food, neat atmosphere. The Cedar Falls location is 'just' a tap room but is located on Main Street in Cedar Falls which is 5 blocks of bars, restaurants and local businesses, its also a really beautiful setting during Christmas time, especially if we get a little snow today and tomorrow, its pretty brown here right now.
Cedar Falls also has a made from scratch sports bar called Pepper's on 18th Street. Pretty straight forward sports bar with great food and domestic beer. Have the Breaded Pork Tenderloin! There is nothing more Iowan.
Also on 18th Street is Mulligans. Its a brick oven pizza joint with good za and a really diverse beer menu.
You'll also hear people talk about 'The Hill' in Cedar Falls but the best bar there is currently closed for renovations and nothing else is too spectacular unless you really like the 'places where 18 year olds with fake IDs can drink' scene.
You'll like the McLeod Center a lot. It's small but modern and we should get to a sellout which was in question earlier in the week. Not a bad seat anywhere. Fans right on top of the floor and the design allows for a really loud building. We also sell beer on the upper concourse on the East Side.
All the respect in the world for Coach Mack and your program! Safe travels and I think you'll really like The Cedar Valley!
