Credit to Joe Titan for alerting me to look for his obit.

The rumors on campus anticipating his arrival were along the lines of "second coming of Lew Alcindor."

Had the pleasure of watching an early round BE tourney game two years ago.

RIP LUTHER

Thanks for confirming EMP (I was concerned others might not know of Luther); he also had a stint in NBA with Cincinnati Royals.

Sad to hear. I remember going to games with my dad and watching him play at Schmidt Fieldhouse.

I remember watching him played at Schmidt when I was a freshman. I think he was the tallest player X had up to then. We were amazed to see him every time he walked into the cafeteria. He was so much taller than everyone else. RIP Luther.

Always nice. I am still amazed we didn't win more games with future NBA players Luther and Bob Quick. Both excellent.

Xavier was fortunate to have him given his HS Resume. His career resume after Xavier is pretty impressive as well, including some SAG credits (The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh, really?)

"But, throughout Luther’s life, one of the things that he took the most pride in was his commitment to his faith and the Catholic Church. It was his faith that guided him throughout life and ushered him into eternity."

Eternal rest grant unto our brother Luther, oh Lord, and may the perpetual light of Christ shine upon him.

And he grabbed 25 rebounds in a game against the cryers!

RIP Mr Rackley. Thanks for being such a great part of the Xavier family when it wasn't at its peak...

Luther Rackley is the first Xavier basketball player I can remember seeing at Schmidt Fieldhouse. I was reminded of him again in recent years when I saw his name in the opening credits of The Last Dinosaur. I said to my friend watching with me, "Is that THE Luther Rackley who played at X?" TLD is an unintentionally funny bad sci-fi movie, but Luther seem to enjoy being in it from what I could tell. He played Bunte, the world's greatest big game tracker per Richard Boone's character, Masten Thrust (I said it was bad!) but somehow he couldn't detect the T-Rex standing right next to him in the forest.

Anyway, I'lll remember Luther for being the first big-time player I remember for Xavier when I was a kid. Be sure to read the obituary as it's absolutely beautiful. Rest in peace, Luther, and thanks for the great memories!
