Under Mike Jarvis they were the United Nations of College Basketball.
Ygor Mescherakov, Shawnta Rogers, Patrick Ngomba, etc. They were a rival. Still remember Stan Burrells last second jumper when he was a Freshman to beat them in that barn of theirs.

What are the odds that 4 games into the season, both X and GW have played 2 common opponents?
Rider 75
Xavier 101
Rider 67
GW 65
Hampton 60
Xavier 96
Hampton 57

I remember sitting in loft of the barn they play in and watching them shoot free throws 10minutes after the buzzer to win.

I was at a game when T. Penders was coaching and they beat us. With about a minute to go, he pulled his keys out and started jingling them. The student section started chanting- Start, The, Bus!. I gave them a golf clap.

It's the Las Vegas Invitational.
The teams in the Las Vegas Classic (December) include Nevada, San Francisco, Southern Illinois and Duquesne in the upper half. The bottom half includes UT-Arlington, Lamar, UC-Davis and North Carolina A&T.

We had a series with them even before we joined the A-10. I think it was Michael Hawkins who missed two free throws with no time left in OT that would have beat them with Yinka Dare one year.

I watched that game in the only restaurant in town in Keene Valley, NY near Lake Placid. Remember vividly how my wife really wanted to get going...and the game went into OT. She wasn't happy sticking around....I turned out to be unhappy I had! Ughh!

We'll have plenty of chances to improve that with Baylor and UC coming up next week, not to mention a tough Big East slate, RPI is the least of our worries now that we're out of the A10

Yup, kind of a lackluster first half? Where’s JP? Like our guard play though.
X Factor
11-23-2017, 05:59 PM
That's about 60 minutes of nothing from JP. What the heck? Goodin needs to take care of the ball better and finish with authority. He never should've been blocked from behind. Tyrique can't finish at all so far in the first half.
Only Trevon and Gates have made a three pointer. Need more outside shooters.

They can't stay in front of our guards - take it to them.
XUFan09
11-23-2017, 06:16 PM
I don't think J.P has necessarily played badly. He's just kind of there putting the pressure on the defense while the lead guard, whether Goodin or Scruggs, attacks a guy that can't stay in front of them and Bluiett and Gates get points in an offense designed around them shooting. Really, J.P. has had a couple of possible three-point opportunities that he chose to drive on instead.

Not sure. Last two games, he's 2-7 from the field. That shouldn't happen to a player like JP. He's also only 2-9 from three on the year, and X is 5 games into the season.
Need JP to play a lot better, like he did at UW, if X is going to win some of the upcoming games against a lot better competition than Hampton and GW.

He was 10-15 from the field at UW and was all over the place. The past two games, it seems like his head hasn't been in the game more than anything physical.
It was a lazy game, but we did what we needed to do. They were not inspired, but did plenty. Don’t try to peak every game. Mack’s best ability in my mind (along with recruiting) is getting them to peak at the RIGHT TIME.

I don't even want us to peak yet, I'd much rather have a situation like last year where we played our best basketball in March, until then let's just gel, run some line-ups, let the Freshman get their feet wet. Would I love an undefeated season? Hell yes, but an actual peak? Save that for March.

They were 18 point favorites, they win by 19. Sure, it wasn’t pretty. But I’ll take 25-30 more like it. It’s darn near impossible to get totally up for every opponent. Sometimes you do win just because of superior talent overcoming lesser talent, even with that lesse talent playing with more emotion. I imagine that tomorrow we may see a more mentally ready Xavier team on the floor.

Amen, the good thing is the freshmen and Kanter are getting valuable experience. I like what I see from the guards as well as the bigs and I believe we are pretty deep. We’ll see how good we really are over the next three games.

I am a little concerned with JP's disappearance on offense the last two games. He doesn't seem to be getting open for the three's this year and his penetration into the lane has been slowed down considerably. Maybe the other guards are just not looking for him for open shots. We are about to play teams that are going to slow down our lane penetration and these new guys are going to have to start showing that they can shoot something besides layups and dunks. So far we have had our way in the lane.

I think Mack is trying to get Q more involved in the scoring offense (working!) but takes some touches away from JP. JP will be fine.

Yep. Q and Scruggs will be valuable for dribble penetration over the course of the season, and the bigs are also getting plenty of touches early on. They need to rack up some possessions making plays so they are ready to contribute when it really matters (e.g. against Villanova). It's not like J.P. is going to lose his touch or forget how he works within the Xavier offense because he didn't look for his shot much against a couple bad teams.
