Rider fan here - although I am optimistic that Rider can keep it competitive - I am also a realist and think we will get killed.
The Rider team is very young with no seniors. They start a (2) Redshirt Freshman - one which is a Depaul transfer. (2) sophomores and a Redshirt Junior. Their top player is point guard Stevie Jordan - who grew up in the entertainment business so playing in front of 10,000 fans will not phase him. His is hip hop mogul Stevie J son.
Rider is changing their approach from being a grind it out defensive team to a wide open fast scoring team. They are not very big, and not a great rebounding team, so I expect them to get destoyed on the boards. They now shoot a lot of 3's and have some really good long range shooters.

Expect another straight forward result, hoping we look just as crisp as the other night, I'm sure the percentages won't be that high, but as long as we look unselfish, with good ball movement and stuff, I'll be pleased.

THE Stevie J?!?
Sounds like a fun team to watch Xavier play. If they're hitting shots, it could stay interesting for a while, but if they're shooting poorly it will probably get U-G-L-Y pretty quick.

Yup. I'll be shocked if we shoot nearly as well as we did against Morehead, but I definitely want to continue to see our guys make good decisions with finding the guy with the open look and taking good shots.
If we can so that, I'll feel good going into Wisconsin.

In game one, guys were locked in for 40 minutes...that's a great habit to form. The intensity from start to finish was very encouraging. That's a sign of a team out to prove a point, and a sign of a great coaching staff.

NO KIDDING! I had to DVR the first game (son’s BDay dinner out) so this is my first live action. I can't wait to get started. If a few roll out, maybe that’s so a few more can roll in against Wisconsin! There’s a little payback due there.

“Rider will shoot a lot, they will miss a lot”.
Is Trevon even lighter than last year?

If we could just keep Jones from making unfortunate fouls. He’s a difference maker

He improved dramatically as the year went on last season. Hope he continues that improvement.

Way too many turnovers in the first half. Need to take care of the basketball.
Tyrique is a beast. By FAR the best big man on the team. Freshman got quality minutes. Lots of foul trouble.
Need to tighten up a few things in the second half.
Does anyone else know there’s a game tonight???
Is it always this quiet early? I don’t remember this.....
Tyrique will be a MONSTER before it’sa All over!

Well it's a home game (many posters attending) and there IS live chat. And, uh, it's Rider.
My first look and Naji and Scruggs.. well well well. I'd say we're loaded.
Wish I was headed up Madison.

Tyrique Jones is already one of our more productive big men we've had in a while. He's only two games into his sophomore year. Really liking his development.
Trevon has scored 51 points in 50 minutes this year.
On ball defense needs work. Goodin had a bad game defensively.

Things I liked- X dominated the first 15 minutes or so of the game and got a big lead.
Things I didn't like- X then coasted, didn't keep up the defensive intensity, and Rider got within 5.
Things I also liked- When Rider got within 5, X stepped up their defense, and dominated for the rest of the game.

Mack said in his post game that defensive rebounding is a concern. The guards need to rebound better.

Has no one else noticed that Tyrique is no longer a fouling machine. If that continues against stiffer competition against Wisconsin that would be good news indeed?

Agreed. However Kanter and Omara have both looked not so hot. I'd like to have at least 2 productive bigs

Team has to learn to play better when JP and Trevon aren't on the floor. Tre goes out...other team makes a run. Tre comes in, we dominate.
Who can provide the level of intensity that JP provides when JP is out with foul trouble or just having a bad game?

I️ think we will find later in the season the answer is Marshall.

Plus when Tre and JP go out we're running up to 3 freshman and a transfer. It'll take a little time, but they'll gel.
I'm glad we broke 100 yesterday, but for a couple of minutes there it was the Scrugg's show. I hope he remains within the offense and doesn't feel like he needs to go "get his."

For anyone watching at home, did the refs really confuse Sean and JP on two different fouls? From in the arena it appeared that they went to call a foul on JP and instead called it on Sean twice. Just curious if I missed something off the ball.

Has to be Kaiser Gates......Why does he continue to be alergic to the paint? Too much size to not mix it up down low, CRASH THE BOARDS and get some garbage. If not now when?

He plays where the coaches tell him to play. If he was going rogue and not playing in the paint/post when he's supposed to, he would be on the bench faster than you could say Mack!

I don't think that the refs confused who the foul was on, but I tink that everyone else did. Chris thought it was on JP. JP thought it was on JP. But the foul was announced on Sean and it was consistent throughout. I did look from my spot in 202 that the officials were calling JP for the foul, but it was announced on Sean from the beginning.

Kaiser obviously has the green light to shoot. A stretch 4 is an absolute weapon is this kind of offense. He's out there by design.

Sorry guy, I was trying to court a Mrs. GIMMFD, I'll keep you guys updated on the progression throughout the season in live chat.
As for the game, box score looked good, and Trevon has started the season on fire, he's looking like a stone cold killer right now, reminds me a lot of Tu in that regard, granted it's only been two games. Hoping that we get our rebounding issues figured out, looking forward to Thursday night, that's going to be a fun one and get some sweet sweet revenge on Wisconsin.

I think I remember that foul as I laughed when the in arena game call sounded something like. "give that foul to Sean O wait give that foul to JP or (grumble grumble) Rider will inbound." I said grumble grumble translated
To o"oh whatever".
