Is Trevon playing? Drew Cooper was my grade school teammate, so he is surely a superior coach. Xavier could be in real trouble here.

Unfortunate there's no stream or TV for it, I'm kind of giddy to see how Paul Scruggs looks.

No Trevon today, plus limited action from JP and Q, means we'll see a lot of action from all our new guys.

I am assuming (which means hoping, wishing and praying since I have no inside information on which to make any kind of informed statement otherwise) this is just precautionary and an opportunity to evaluate young talent.

Had not heard about any issues with Q.

Precautionary across the board according to the Enquirer.

JP had 10 pts in 8 mins...2 steals...Shannon sez it is "raining 3's" which I don't get with our enormous height advantage but then who cares in this game?

Defense was really good. Marshall is a baller, and Kanter looks like he'll have an impact.

I was up in The Woods bar before the game with $5 Natty Lights. Cheapest beer in the arena?

I noted Quatman Cafe has a hamburger stand on the west concourse. An $8 burger. That's more Tuan the burger fries and beer at the bar, isn't it?

I can't get tapatalk running anymore and this page renders horridly on an iPhone means no more in arena posts from me

Mack Presser: Naji (altho a freshman) the real deal, gonna be great player for X. Sean played bad, needs to get rid of "the cloud over his head" and couldn't compete with bunch of 6'4" players. EVERYBODY will play Friday. Tre ready to go. Tyrique played well but needs to stop getting tired after 2/1/2 mins. of hard play. Happy with D and only 8 to's. Q needs to finish at rim and stop the "whipped cream" on the easy layups. Kerem ok. Mack didn't pull many punches.

Good to know we beat up on them short handed though, nice to hear Naji is transitioning well, did we hear anything about Scruggs??

Scruggs played OK, but seemed to struggle at times. He played 25 minutes, scored 4 points with 6 assists, 3 fouls, and 1 turnover. He was 0-3 from 3.

A lot of the videos that Xavier Gameday tweeted today showed players dunking with a voiceover at the end of "LAND HO!!!" - is that actually happening in the arena, or was that just added to the video?

That would be "SLAMMED HOME" and has been the signature dunk call by the announcer for 20+ years.

Herb is a great guy, has always known the game, loves that job. Put in some years in the "acoustics" of the Garden. He's the "rookie" on that core group that actually runs the scorers table.....Gels, Hogan, Grogan, Marerro, our own StatMan ...all Xavier grads. Greatest seats in the house, courtside midcourt.....but they work hard for those seats.

They do get way too much screen time.

Huh, I guess it just sounded different with the audio isolated on those videos. Normally I'm used to crowd noise or TV announcers talking through the whole play. It's weird when you just hear Herb.

There’s 200 minutes in a game. I’m gonna say Bluiett and Macura get 35, Goodin plays 30, Kaiser plays 25, and the three bigs split 45. That leaves 30 minutes for the freshman. I’ll say Naji gets about 15, Scruggs gets 10, and Harden gets about 5. The big question mark I’m my mind is whether Naji can challenge Kaiser for a starting spot, in which chase they would split time much more evenly. I also think you’re going to see the freshman get more minutes in early blowouts and then settle in once we get into the meat of the schedule.

I wouldn't base too much on what they did against TMC especially with Trevon out and limited play from other vets. These kids were all studs last year against high school competition .

As we play tougher competition, how these kids begin to perform will give us (but mostly Mack) a better idea of the eventual rotation.

But it is interesting to speculate, and I can't argue with either assessment at this time, and I reserve the right to criticize any speculation that is proven wrong over time (so to speak) given additional and timely (there I go again) information. Hey, it's probably not fair but that's how we roll here.

When I was a kid at The Gardens, I used to think it was "LAND HO" as well. Took me far too long to realize it was "SLAMMED HOME".

Same with me. Years ago, I randomly sat down next to the announcer at a bar, not knowing who he was. We got to talking and he told me what he did, and I asked "what the hell do you say when there is a dunk".
