I want to get a Fitbit.
Who has one? How do you like it? Is it integrated with your phone? Where should I buy it?
Does it motivate you to move more knowing that you are tracking your scoring totals? Does it motivate you to take the stairs instead of the elevator. Does it work on a bike or a treadmill? Can you watch midget porn on it?
I have a friend that says she just uses an app on her phone and it is just as good. I am not so sure about that.
Give me your vast Fitbit knowledge of the internets!

Also looking to buy a new scale. Are smart scales all that? Anyone have one?

Try your phone app first to see if it does what you want before adding another piece of equipment to carry around.

I'm interested in the answer to this question as well.

I have owned three fitbits. The last two I returned for issues with the device coming apart. I now wear an apple watch.
I do feel as if it does motivate you to walk/move around. But I get the same functionality (plus more) out of my Watch. If the Fitbit had held up better, I might have stuck with it.

dont bother...the novelty will wear off. Unless you are already a committed person who excercises daily, this is simply a fad that will die off with newer better technology......like the Apple Watch with its multi-functional approach

I have a Garmin Vivoactive. Tracks steps much like a fitbit, has GPS/ apps for walking, running, biking, and golf (have yet to play a course I couldn't find in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, South Carolina, or Tennessee) and also connects to iphone so my calendar reminders pop up, can play music thats on my phone, call/text capability weather, etc. Cost is 20%-50% of the apple watch depending on which models you're looking at.

I hate having to return defective products. You had to do it twice. Not good for Fitbit.

Do you have the heart rate monitor? I am not really sure what I would do with that information anyway.

I do not. Had it with a previous garmin watch and never used it. Unless you are doing endurance training I don't think you need one. I do a couple half marathons a year and have never used a hr monitor, just slow down when I can't hold my pace anymore.

They have one factory refurb for $79.95 here (https://g.factoryoutletstore.com/cat/59676-182942/Garmin-Vivoactive.html?cid=203874&chid=4272&gclid=Cj0KCQjwybvPBRDBARIsAA7T2kgM21X95SbfJJySmUpc mzJ3bA9Y6FZh67A3JS2_dvhoJtb-Xb_kLcYaAikoEALw_wcB)
Is that the model you would recommend?

I had a fitbit and have never had any problems. I used it with friends to motivate each other to lose weight and shape up. I lost 25 lbs in maybe 7-8 months. You cannot watch midget porn on any model (yet). The heart rate monitor is not terrible useful except it is entertaining to have on during “intimate times” and see how much work you’re putting in. I’m sure garmin is fine but the fitbit community is larger and realistically it’s other people that provide more motivation for most of us.

That is the model I have, not sure what is involved in a refurb.
I know several people who have purchased a Fitbit. I don't know anyone who actually still uses one.
Also, i just bought a new scale. Why the heck does it have Bluetooth capability? I'm not going to call it, I'll just step on and read the number. How does it know my BMI, or how hydrated I am? Or any of the rest of that crap? I just....step on it....

It's so it can link with various apps. MyFitnessPal for instance uses it.

I'm seriously curious about what my new scale can do, but the box/instructions went out in thrash this morning. (I'll google this stuff, I guess.) I'm also quite concerned I no longer know how to use my bathroom scale.....

I have a Garmin and like it very much. It is supposed to measure my heartrate, but I think there are better ones within the Garmin line to do that. I don't think any of them are totally accurate, but there are still a lot of measurements that will help your track progress. I like their app and also work with other apps like Map My Hike. I'd say if you commit to walking or running or biking one mile a day, you don't really need to track progress, as it will just help you anyhow. Depends on your goals and how much you want to put into it.
There were several things that turned me away from Fitbit, but that was a couple years ago and technology of the latest models might have erased my concerns.
I think the Apple Watch is obnoxious because people who really use it are constantly checking the thing to get something out of it. High priced distraction.

82, watch out for those blue teeth.....sounds painful. I was inspired to go look for my scale. The dust on it weighs 1.2 lbs.
Snipe, they are coming out with a fartbit.
That might be more your speed.

My fartbit would keep breaking down and they wouldn't want to take it back. That is one case where the extended warranty might make sense.
Sounds like the Garmin is a keeper. When I go biking or hiking it would be cool to see exactly how far I went. Have to give Paul credit though, I have never even tried the apps already on my phone.

I just use the Samsung Health application that came out of the box on my phone. It tracks heartrate, calories, speed, miles, steps, sleep patterns, blood oxygen levels, basically about anything you can think of. The Samsung Galaxy series phones have heart rate monitors and pulse ox sensors built into them. You can track routes with GPS or even design your own. It also allows me to stream music or play other media. I don't see any need personally for a wrist device unless someone didn't want to carry the phone in their pocket.

Got a Fitbit through work and wear it pretty much religiously everyday. We have numerous individual and team challenges throughout the year to keep us all healthy and working extra hard.
Lemme know when the midget porn technology barrier is finally cracked as that would mean it would NEVER leave my arm...plus I'll get all those additional steps for "exercising" to that action.
