As much as I wanna say X/Duke '04, I'm pretty confident X would have been steam rolled in the F4 by that Uconn team. OSU game came to mind as well, but that was second round.

X/KSU takes it for me because I so badly wanted the rematch with Butler. And they definitely could have won that game. Also would have been really cool for a Butler/X Elite 8 with 2 of the best non power conference teams on a national scene. And had they made it, MSU was very beatable as well in F4

1. Xavier Purdue at Cintas, 2011 I think
2. Xavier Kansas State, 2010

1- What's the best college hoops game you've ever seen in person?
-Villanova in 2016, but I havent been to the majority of home games. The 17 point comeback against GTown is a close second. My underrated pick is BYU in 07. Down 2 with two minutes to go and tied up with 52 seconds left. Luckily I didnt attend the next game.

2- You can change the outcome of one sporting event during your lifetime. Which one would you choose and why?
-'04 Duke Elite 8 game, I think thats the only pick here. I'm biased but I think we wouldve had a real shot of beating UConn if we got past Duke. And if we beat UConn we beat GT and win it all.

I disagree here. Xavier was legitimately playing as well as anyone in the nation that last month. They absolutely embarrassed the undefeated #1 team in the nation (St Joes), then handled 3 top 20 teams in a row in the tournament. After that they arguably outplayed Duke, who was the best team in the nation that year talent wise, when they had Myles. Would they have been favored over UConn? Obviously not. But after watching us go toe to toe with Duke for 40 minutes I think we couldve done the same with UConn.

Still hard for me to get beat up about losing that game because it was such an incredible basketball game. Just one stop in 2OT...just one...............

1) Miss St in Orlando, March, 2004. Game wasn't even close, but there with the wife and kids and I couldn't have taken a close game. Great energy and fun! It was awesome shutting up the Miss St Tuba Boy. I'm such a child sometimes....

2) I'm tempted to say a certain March game vs THE osu with a dubious outcome, but I have to Bills/Giants Super Bowl. That still hurts pretty bad.......wide right.....ouch

1/2/1990 X vs. Loyola Marymount at the Gardens. Won 115-113. Epic. Hank Gathers died later that year. Dude was amazing

04 Duke game. I think we get to the top of the mountain a lot faster if Duke goes down that day.

1) Purdue 2011. Its the only game i have been to at the 'Tas since i graduated and boy was it worth the trip. Never heard that arena louder (live) than that game.

2) Jeffrey Maier Catch (game 1 1996 ALCS). Maybe the Yankees still go on to win that series but it wouldn't have felt like everything was going to go in their favor had the umpire called that ball out for fan interference.

Agree with your disagreement. With that team and the roll they were on, they could have beaten anyone.

Would definitely change the XU/Duke outcome, as far as #1 that is a tad harder. I was at the #1 in the country #2 in the city game at UC. I was at the Hoosier Dome for Princeton's win over UCLA in the tourney. I was also at the '08 win over WVU for Raymond's 3. Sucks is my wife wanted me to head to Fresno this year also but I didn't because of the cost. Could have seen that as well.

Edit: I also got to see Jose Jimenez for the Cards no-hit the Dbacks. RJ gave up 1 hit that game. Pretty crazy to witness a game like that, it was just a bit over 2 hours.

1. I have the misfortune of never making it to any tournament game. My wife and I were supposed to go to the BET this year (and then I would have said the X-Butler game), but we suddenly had to help a family member out financially. Still peeves me months later. So, I'll say '06 Crosstown Shootout, when we got to chant at Huggins up in one of the boxes because he had just been fired.

2. 1996 Cardinals-Braves series. Braves came back to win from down 3-1, or the Cardinals could have faced the Yankees in the World Series.

I'm a bit newer to Xavier fandom than many of you, so:

2008 Sweet Sixteen win over WVU
2007 loss against Ohio State (ugh, that one still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth)
Close second place for game I wish I could change the outcome is the brawl (not necessarily the score, but all the fallout and how the entire season went askew)

Best game I've been in person for, as far as total quality of game goes, is the December 31, 2002 game vs Creighton.

If I could change the outcome of any game:
non-Xavier category: Bengals-Niners XXIII. (Game 5 of 2012 Reds-Giants NLDS a close 2nd)
Xavier category: XU-Duke 2004 Elite 8. Agreed with the others that the way X was playing at that time, they could've played with anyone. (And I might actually go 2009 Pitt S16 over the 2010 K-State game. If only Brown's feet were just a little bit shorter...)

2. '04 Duke. What was done to Myles was criminal. I'm sure Putin colluded with Duke and that ref.

Are we talking memorable wins or best game I've ever seen?

I've been to Shootout wins at Shoemaker, .....and until this March, the Creighton game with West and Korver was the best game I've seen live.

But I skipped The BE tourney this year to catch the second weekend of the NCAAs. The win over Arizona wasn't a masterpiece of skills, but it was just such a great ending, to see the joy of the team, the coaches, and the fans was the most exhilarating sports experience.

Result to change: vs OSU AT Rupp. That game was OURS.

Best game I've seen in person: Xavier/Georgetown in '90

Game I would have changed: Ohio State in '07 I might have said but I think if Sean would have won that game I think he would have been gone. So I talked myself out of that. I have to go with the majority.
Duke '04 as my final answer

2008 NCAA Regional semi final against West Virginia was the most exciting game I have been to. Bj Raymond with the dagger to put Xavier in the elite 8.

I agree with others the Duke game in the elite 8 with Lionel and Sato. I wish we could have won that game. Phantom foul calls on Myles killed us.

Too many memorable victories but probably the XU-UC 1990 Shootout. I was getting pelted with popcorn and beer on my own home floor by a bunch of UC law school students but we won. A game which ending I would change: XU-UCLA 2008. For no other reason than it would've gotten us to the FF.

#1 is tough. I've got a couple. First is the 2012 KU vs. Mizzou game. It was the last time they played before Mizzou jumped ship to the SEC. KU came back from down 19 in the 2nd half to win in OT. I've never felt an entire crowd revel in their shared hatred of the visiting team like that Allen Fieldhouse crowd. Second is the 2014 AL WC game. The Royals were down 4 runs in the 8th inning to the A's before came back to win in extras. IMO, that game really launched the Royals towards their WS championship the nest season.

#2 is 2012 Reds vs. Giants NLDS Game 5 and it's not close for me. If I could take back the Posey grand slam and see the Reds move on to the NLCS I would be eternally grateful. That was the single worst feeling I've ever had watching sports.

#1 is Tough. X over St. Joe's in the A-10 Tournament. X over Villanova at Cintas when Nova was ranked #1.

#2 I'm tempted to go with X/Duke in the Elite 8. But also the X/Wisconsin loss in the Second Round. That team was special.

I still remember the entire crowd visibly deflating. Everything that conspired to bring about that moment was awful.

Recent memory prevails ... Xavier over No 1 'Nova at Cintas. It was a Wed game ... the drive back to Chicago was no problem.
No. 2. I was devastated and felt like the Ohio St game was stolen. [Duke game was stolen too ... 2 fouls on Antony Myles in like 30 sec]. I'll go with the OSU game.

By the way ... this thread (and my, pictures soon, Xavier man cave) made me re-watch "The Run" - a DVD celebrating our first elite 8. Special offer if you haven't seen it ... PM me, I'll send it to you watch for free and then you send it on to the next person ... eventually, I'll take it back.

If you're going to change the outcome of a game from that series, the game to change is Game 3 -- Homer Bailey went 7IP, 1H, 10K. That game should have been a win, resulted in a series sweep, and allowed the Reds to re-set their pitching rotation for the next series (since Cueto was hurt). I think if they win that game, they win the NL that year.

Also, depending how broadly you define "change the outcome" and "sporting event," then the absolute clear winner is altering the outcome of a draft so that your preferred team ends up with Tom Brady / Peyton Manning / Michael Jordan / LeBron James, etc.

1 - What's the best college hoops game you've ever seen in person?
- 2004 Crosstown Shootout - We were struggling that season and Lionel hit the shot to get us moving in the right direction, and ultimately, to an Elite 8. I've seen a bunch of the games mentioned on this list*, but I just have so much invested in those Shootout games and it's so satisfying when we beat those assholes. In fact, I was so excited that year that I almost got strangled by Bob Huggins. I was quoted all over CBS, ESPN, USA Today, etc after this... "When Huggins came out to the court for his postgame radio show, one fan yelled at him, "A bitter pill!" Huggins didn't acknowledge the comment." The crowd had mostly cleared out and headed to Dana's. Fat Bob looked me dead in the eye and I honestly thought he was going to leap into the first row to get me. Yeah, like he could leap. (See https://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/gametracker/recap/NCAAB_20040203_CIN@XAVIER)

2 - You can change the outcome of one sporting event during your lifetime. Which one would you choose and why?
- 2004 Duke Elite 8 game. We was robbed. Screw that official and screw JJ ReDick.

*3 - Another question that could be asked is which Xavier basketball game do you most regret missing? (Feel free to add that to your responses going forward.)
- For me, that would be the 2008 NCAA Regional semifinal against West Virginia. "Do it, BJ!" Almost booked that trip.

Me, too; I should have been there. As many of you know I did my undergrad at Marshall and grew up in West Virginia, so my hatred of WVU is unsurpassed. I just so happened to finish my Master's at Xavier in 2008 and had classes with some of the players. My new love beating my old enemy is a memory I'll cherish forever.
