From TD Ameritrade to Prasco Park. Quite a downgrade!
It's a bit of shame that we have to host such events off campus. If only there were more room where the present field is for stands that could comfortably accommodate 5,000 to 6,000 fans. It's also a shame that we can't afford to pay our head baseball coach an amount that would justify him and his staff to truly commit to the Musketeer program. As much as the basketball program and the Cintas Center bring into the Xavier sports program, it's difficult to see why we cannot adequately support the baseball program such that we have inviting facilities and the cash to pay proven coaches and manager to stay put!
So we have a giant hurdle to fly over: a combination to commit to the baseball program in terms of facilities and coaches salaries. Baseball can be a bigger draw than it currently is. The sport is historic in Cincinnati. But Xavier needs to do more to interest the fans. We at least have to be made to feel that the Muskie baseball program is considered important enough to be treated (on a Ca$h basis) as annual contender for a trip to the College World Series on an annual basis through its excellence in Big East play and beyond.

2018 Xavier Baseball Schedule (http://goxavier.com/schedule.aspx?path=baseball)
Xavier may be reloading in 2018, but they scheduled up this year. Notable noncon opponents (also in last year's NCAA Tournament) include Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, Wright State and Dallas Baptist.
They also have a West Coast roadie this year with 3 games at Saint Mary's, a midweek game against Cal and a 3-game series at San Francisco.

GoXavier.com - Baseball Season Tickets On Sale (http://goxavier.com/news/2018/1/23/2018-baseball-tickets-on-sale-now.aspx)
Little bit of a new wrinkle this season in that Xavier will return to requiring paid tickets for attendance at baseball games this year. General admission tickets are $5, but a season ticket would be $25 and also includes a Xavier mini-bat that can be picked up at any home game in March or April. This is similar to the scarf promotion that Xavier has for the soccer teams.
Also don't forget that Xavier will be hosting the Big East Tournament at Prasco Park up in Mason this season. Tickets for the tournament go on sale at a later time (and are separate).

Just a friendly reminder that you can join the ranks of season ticket holders for baseball for a mere $25 this year. All season ticket holders get a mini bat that can be picked up at any home game during March or April.
I suspect not many will be attending the home opener against Miami since that will more likely than not be the same day where the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament is taking place.

It really is 2018 when we're hoping there isn't "lasting damage" to a kid who didn't throw well in his first start. He's a talented kid and should have pitched better. Xavier Baseball isn't a small time program anymore, they're recruiting on a high level and these guys have to perform. He'll be fine.

It was not pretty. They pounded the heck out of us.
On the bright side, the evening was not wasted. I met a number of parents following their Muskie players all the way here, in strange roundabout ways.
One family from Ontario went to Florida for vacation, and stopped here on the way back for the weekend series.
Another from Indianapolis who follows them everywhere.
Talked to the bus driver, and neither of us can figure out why they booked their rooms in Greenville (30 miles away). We do have hotels in Spartanburg.
Also met some Wofford football players who have lots of teammates from Ohio; one guy's roommate played at St X.
Now, maybe I can do better tomorrow with the score. Young team; playing lots of freshmen. Will get better.

It's REALLY early, but with Xavier dropping 2 of 3 to 7-19 (coming in) Georgetown in the Big East opening weekend, Xavier is now starting to move into the danger zone on qualifying for the Big East Tournament. Given that Xavier is hosting, that would be a bit embarrassing. Big series with Seton Hall this weekend, who would seem to be the other most likely candidate for the #4 spot in the Tournament (St. John's, Creighton and Butler are the likely top 3).
X-band '01
04-09-2018, 04:52 PM
Losing both of those games on walkoffs at Georgetown also sucked - they need at minimum one game at Seton Hall this weekend, although 2 or 3 would be desired given that both St. John's and Creighton come to Xavier this season.
Butler and Creighton ended up splitting a pair of games on a neutral site after snow cancelled their first game in Omaha. St. John's swept Villanova in 3 elsewhere in the Big East.
X-band '01
04-16-2018, 12:21 PM
Bad news is that Xavier only got one win at Seton Hall - but the good news was Creighton getting swept at St. John's this weekend. The Bluejays are 1-4 right now and, like Xavier, are outside of the Top 4 at the moment. Xavier's series at home against Creighton is an absolute must-win series at this point.
The only road series Xavier has left is Butler, but they're going to be a handful this season.
