Who do you think was better for Xavier?

close, but I went with Ed. Ed played on two stacked teams, while Semaj got to be the man for two years.

Agreed that its close, but I'd go with Semaj. Semaj will go down as one of the most underrated Xavier players of all time due to the lack of help he had around him. He scored double digits in every single Big East game he played his sophomore year, all while averaging 4.4 Assists per game which is pretty close to Sumners average.

I wonder if this question is different without the season ending injury. Then again I wonder if the season isn't different if the injury doesn't happen (meaning would this team have come together).

Health has to be a consideration. Semaj on last years team would have put up crazy numbers.

I did not expect this poll to be this tight. I thought that Sumner would lead by a high margin (somewhat due to recency).

Semaj, not so easy!

Ed and his thundering dunks were awesome....I think that may affect some peoples vote. This is very, very close. If this is a vote on who will be a better pro, its hands down Edmond.

IT sucks for Trevon that these are the 2 players who will get compared because they both were drafted. I'd take Tre over both those guys if I don't consider pro prospects.
That said, I think I take Semaj for what he has done. Ed is a lot of athleticism and potential but hasn't come close to realizing it yet. Sumner has the high ceiling but Semaj has the higher floor.
So I guess the real question is: What does better player mean?

When I first saw the post I was gonna go with Ed, but after thinking about it some, I chose Semaj.

Semaj imo. It's a tough comparison because their supporting casts were so drastically different.
The question being "who was better for Xavier?" I would go with Semaj, as he essentially had to carry Xavier for two years as a freshman and sophomore. I would say Ed is the better overall player, however.

This is how I voted. Semaj did a few things really well while I think Edmond was more well rounded. Semaj had to carry a team for his two years while Edmond was never the focal point (or if he was, it was for short periods because of inexperience or injury). In the end, there really isn't a wrong answer.

My vote is Ed and I really don't think it's close. Of course, the Ed before the 2 simultaneous injuries.
Still believe, injury or not, the upside for Ed is much greater.

Semaj vote here.
Many will disagree, but the raw althletic ability of Ed is greater, but he never matured as a player. Other than some freak moves and plays, I never had confidence in him on the floor.

Semaj's supporting casts (especially his freshman year) were absolutely brutal. It's a tough call.

Brutal for reasons completely unrelated to Semaj those 2 seasons.

The answer is in the question - "better player for Xavier". Potential or actual career after Xavier is irrelevant. Ed missed the second half of his last year, and Xavier ultimately did well without him. Semaj carried two teams; Ed was not the most important player either of his years. Semaj was second to McDermott for BE Player of the Year. Even if had not gotten hurt Ed would not have been in the top two.

Semaj could have been a great Xavier player. He didn't win a single NCAA game. That said, he was better than Ed. When Edmond Sumner would throw one down it brought down the house. It was ridiculous how that young man could burst speed, drive and levitate. He had another gear.
Now Semaj couldn't hit the three, but you couldn't guard him either. That kid should have stayed. He took shots coaches would bench you for and he hit them. He was special.
He carried us for two seasons and then left. Then after that, we had two good seasons where we wished we had Semaj. He could have moved mountains. And after he left for the draft, he wasn't playing in the NBA. He should have been with us. He was incredible.
I think Semaj was wrong to leave so early. I think it would have been better had he stayed.
Edmond doesn't leave as near as large as a footprint. I wish that young man well, but he had some flashes but never really left a mark. I loved having him on the team and he was great for Xavier basketball, but when compared to Semaj it really falls flat.

let's not go down this road again. Semaj is 3 years removed from X, and he still can't shoot. Staying wouldn't have helped his draft stock. He's a millionaire now.

I think they both were pretty similar in athleticism, and exciting to watch, both could make explosive plays. That being said, I went with Ed, because of mainly his dunks stick out to me more recently. However Semaj was very underrated, he had to take things over sometimes, and somehow managed to still dishout 4 assists per game. This was a super difficult question, and now my head hurts.

I go with Ed for similar reasons. I hope Ed isn't Semaj++ in The League.

Semaj shot 33.8% from 3 in his Xavier Career.
Edmond shot 28.5% from 3 in his Xavier Career.
Upside was not a factor at all in the question. I think everyone agrees with the upside.

I did not see that aspect of the question in the post until now. I only read the top part by poll and voted Ed. I would change my vote to Semaj knowing the question was who was better for Xavier.

I honestly had to look that up before you posted because I thought Ed was a much better shooter than Semaj was, but I will say Ed averaged twice as many 3's per game over Semaj, so I wonder how that would look if it were even, but yeah, I agree it was closer than I expected.
