Looks like we play Wisconsin, and it is a Thursday night so little chance I can get Khans to organize a bus trip to Madison.
Two Gavitt Tipoff games on the road in a row. At Michigan and at Wisconsin.
We haven't had a home game yet, and boy am I looking forward to seeing Penn State come in. You can only imagine it won't be Archie or Thad Matta coming down. You know they have veto power. Seton Hall gets Indiana and Louisville on the home schedule? Man would those tickets be hot here. Incredible.
My son said Michigan State has not been scheduled for a Gavitt game yet. If that is true I am beginning to worry about the terms of the contract.
And just watch next year could be another bye, we are going to have to wait until we get Penn State and Nebraska at home.
Fred Garvin is going to drive me to Madison is Trevon Bluiett stays. I would like to arrange a sit down with the young man to discuss his future. Trevon, have your people contact my people. And did I mention I am a life coach? I have all sorts of wisdom, and it has been extensively documented.

It would be nice to pick up a high quality win in Marquette's backyard.

Every team in the Big East has played a home game in this series, except Seton Hall (who will host IU this year) and X, who gets another road game.

The Big 10 fears coming to Cintas. Cowards.

I'm hopeful that Michigan State makes their first appearance next season at Cintas. I'm thankful we have gotten good opponents so far, but two road games already is not ideal.

And lets not dismiss that Villanova and Butler are really tough places to play too. So is Creighton and they ALL have had home games. I'm calling bullshit.

This is only 3 years into what I think is a 10 year deal. I would venture to guess that X has had some assurances as far as high quality home match ups go in the future. The Big Ten, excluding Michigan State, seems like it'll have a down year next year anyway so a winnable road game for a chance at revenge is fine with me.

With our teams, the game is winnable whether the Big Ten is having a down year or up. I'd much rather be playing an opponent that is viewed as a top contender.

I have wanted a Michigan State game for a long time. Hopefully the Gavitt series provides that opportunity.
How does the scheduling work, anyone know? Do we have much of a say, other than availability?

Not sure why everyone is so upset over 2 road games in a row. Doesn't strike me as some huge deal. X will probably have 2 home games in a row at some point.
As far as MSU, the Champions Classic makes it difficult to participate in Gavitt.

It's the off-season. We need something to complain about!

We get Wisconsin?? Great news, at least we get a game this year. So what if it's on the road, just means we will get a home game next time. Chance to get a road win on the resume against a P5 school? I'm all for it. I hope we beat the living hell out of them.

We should. They aren't going to be that great this year.

I think Wisconsin will be a challenge from here on out any season. They have a strong brand now that recruits are buying into. I wish it was at home, just so the local fans can see a strong matchup.
Given the way B1G has worked with Xavier so far, our home matchups will be someone like Penn State or Rutgers. I'm still happy to be in a series with B1G, as it means continued media focus on the program in several strong markets. Great for recruiting, PR, yadda yadda.

what a fu&*^ing joke. No OSU, MSU or Michigan? Why aren't we lining up their best schools to play our best schools? Makes no sense to me

Michigan played the previous two years and Ohio State sucks.
I'm not sure what everyone was expecting from this arrangement. There are significantly more Big10 teams, the Big10 plays in a much more prominent event that is basically the same idea and in the same general window of time, and MSU plays in the Champions Classic every year. It's hard to imagine the stars aligning for 5 great matchups to happen in the same year or all the top teams participating. These all seem like pretty good games to me when you consider most schools' approach to non-conference scheduling.

Why would we have anything to do with what schools their league places in the event?

Call it what you want. Michigan dropping last years game......on the road is crap. Why have the series if you don't match up your best programs every now and then and showcase your league(s)? Seems that what it should be about to me.

What game did Michigan drop?
They were in the 2k Classic last year, which is played that same week, and they had been scheduled to play in that event prior to the 2015-2016 season even ending. It was announced over two months before the Gavitt Games matchups were announced. It's not like they scheduled Michigan to play in a game and then Michigan decided not to play.
Marquette was also in the 2k Classic. Marquette also did not play in the Gavitt Games last year. Coincidentally, Michigan and Marquette played each other in that event, which was the same week as the Gavitt Games. Perhaps we can even call that a pseudo Gavitt Games match-up. In fact I think that matchup was announced before any of the Gavitt Games matchups were. Does Marquette deserve the same scorn for "dropping last year's game"?
We have a scheduling agreement with the Big Ten. And, people are unhappy. It's amazing to me how people who want to complain about something can always find something to complain about. I mean, it really is something to behold.

I am flabbergasted at the complaints about this series. The math is pretty simple as to why some teams play and some don't. It's been a good deal for the Big East. I'm not sure what everyone is expecting. So far, we've gotten games against Michigan and Wisconsin; what's the problem ?
We'll get our home games.
The Gavitt Tipoff Games is an annual eight game series played between the Big Ten Conference and the Big East Conference to tip-off the college basketball season. The Gavitt Tipoff Games began in 2015 and will be played annually until 2022 as part of an eight-year deal. The Gavitt Tipoff Games will be played at the home sites at the participating schools, four of them will be hosted by Big Ten schools and four of them will be hosted by Big East schools. Each Big East team will participate a minimum of six times, while each Big Ten program will take part a minimum of four times.
All games played at a Big East campus will be televised by FS1 and all games played on a Big Ten campus will be televised by ESPN or the Big Ten Network.
Through two seasons, the match up is 8-8; 4-4 both years.

6 of 8 are good non-conference games. If I recall (and I May be wrong), didn't all these teams except Indiana make the tournament ?
I am flabbergasted by those who are complaining about the complaints about this series.

And so it goes....
I don't think they've announced the tipoff times yet. When they do, regardless of what time our game tips, people will complain. Or, how the event is covered by the BTN Network. I don't know what they'll say, but whatever it is there will be a multitude of people on here who will feel slighted. They'll also allege that it's all because the Big Ten is being selfish and that we're somehow being totally screwed as a result. I'll be flabbergasted by the complaints, and I guess you'll be flabbergasted by my flabbergastedness.

BTN ?
If they don't put us on ESPN, with a one hour pre-game show; or better yet, make it a mega-cast, that's complete B.S.

I can accept the fact Ohio State, Michigan, and Mich State are not involved this season, but no Penn State??
What a bunch of pussies!! They are ducking out on this event because they are scared of the fallout losing to a Big East team would cause. That campus takes their basketball very serious and would burn the place down if they lost to a team like Nova.

Don't get me wrong. I find the whole thing to be rather amusing. Even somewhat charming. I just can't help but laugh at how people think we're always getting royally screwed.
