Say goodbye to the skyline on the court :(

The article doesn't mention anything about changing the court design. I'd imagine they could slap the Kohlhepp name on there without re-doing the entire floor.

Kohlhepp probably kicked in a lot of money for the upcoming renovations - I too will miss seeing the Cincinnati skyline on the floor.

I figured they would probably name the playing floor either for Fr. Hoff or for Sister Rose, though.

Call the court whatever but let's leave the skyline on there!!

According to Twitter the court design is changing. Basically the same court w/ no skyline.

Guess I'm in the minority that didn't like the skyline on the court? I prefer the new court. By a lot. Maybe I'm boring.

I'm with you. Skyline was okay for a season or two. But it's a bit gimmicky in my opinion.

If you have time, google Bakersfield and San Jose State's playing floors. They are real and they are spectacular.

Yeah. I know it doesn't make sense, but I don't mind the goofy courts for low-to-mid major schools. I'm fine with the viking ship on NKU's court. But I just never loved the skyline on the X court. Didn't hate it as much as I do Oregon's forest court though.

The skyline was AWFUL. I am very glad it is gone. As someone who lives out of town and watches most games on TV it bugged the shit out of me.

I think we had blue lanes in 2000. I would like to go back to those rather than the current wood-colored iteration.

Lotta optics changes this coming season. New seating, new court, new uniforms. A month and a half ago, had visions of us hanging a FF banner to usher in the renovations, but that will have to wait another season.

I didn't like the skyline at first, but it grew on me. I'd prefer that to some guy buying his way into getting his name on the court. On the building, or prominently somewhere else, but not what I see when I watch the game. Not a huge deal, but if it's any person's name I'd prefer maybe a legendary coach or something. Not "just" a big donor. I feel bad being negative in the face of wonderful generosity. I guess I'm not a very good person.

A well deserved honor for Mr. Kohlhepp. I hated the skyline court design when it first debuted. It grew on me though. I'm perfectly ok with getting rid of it but would have been fine if they kept it. I prefer simple designs for basketball courts.

Meh I hate it, I loved the Skyline on the court, I watch all the games on TV and it looked pretty nice, I think the new court is pretty boring, doesn't really do much for me. Oh well, that's life I guess, maybe if I start making some big bucks I can design the court to my will ;)

I liked the idea of the skyline when described, but didn't like it at all when I looked at it. It made the games on TV very distracting. Much too busy looking. They could have simplified it a bit and it might have helped. Or dimmed the tones.

I do like people's suggestion of the blue in the paint lanes.

I agree with some that this guy surely deserves a huge amount of recognition for his making possible so much of what the university has accomplished. But naming of the court after someone involved with the team's on-court history would have been nice. When this man passes on, I'm sure the school will like having the connection alive to go back to the family for continued support.

This thread is really disappointing to me. The school honors one of our greatest all-time benefactors by naming the court after his family, and all anyone wants to do is debate the removal of the Cincinnati skyline? Sad.

(PS: Yes, I just posted the same on the pay site...)

I TOTALLY get your point of view. I could go either way on the skyline. I actually feel bad that I don't like naming the court for a large donor. They need to be recognized in a huge way (though I have no idea how large their gifts/commitments have been, which might sway me). It just rubs me wrong to have the name on the court, while at the same time I want to hug these people. Obviously, I'm conflicted.

I guess we ran out of things to name. I'm no expert, but Cintas, Joseph and maybe a couple other things, then we're done. I fully understand needing the funds and to recognize a huge donor, but the court bothers me for some reason. I got over the skyline, I'll get over this.

Kinda stinks the capacity is going down. It is still listed at 10,370 on the renovation website. I know it's a very slight change, but it'll make it much harder to continue breaking attendance records.

Once you've filled it completely full, do you really need to measure that again?
It's a popular program and they are doing things to ensure they remain a desirable entertainment outlet.
I doubt they are worried about breaking a record, rather consistent full houses.

I don't care about the skyline being removed. But this family was instrumental in getting the Cintas Center built. Without Cintas the campus looks vastly different as does the program. Cintas Center was a transformative moment for not only Xavier Basketball but the whole University. I'm not sure we'd be in the Big East without it.

Plus. We are ignoring the fundraising opportunity. I suspect they will auction off or give a piece of the old court, in exchange for a donation.

How much would it cost if I bought the piece out of the skyline section that includes my old office window at 425 Walnut?

Idk. The physical wood can't be more than 5 years old. I'd guess they are just sanding and re-painting.

They have made a fairly big deal about breaking both single game and season long attendance records the past couple years.

Attendance is a big selling point for athletic programs. Again, I know 26 seats isn't a lot, but they're also losing the SRO spots on the walkway so it will be difficult to keep breaking those records.
