Located at the corner of Dana and Cleneay, it was demolished in 2008 to make room for construction of University Station, including the All for One Shop.

The centerpiece of the project will be the installation of the original bar that spanned the 35 feet of The Woods' main gathering space...

The Woods at Cintas Center will be located at the top of section 215 and will be open for all men's basketball home games and other selected events.

Xavier still has the bar from The Woods, and 200 fake IDs The bar (and maybe the IDs) will be above section 215. I was always a Dana's guy and only went to The Woods a couple times a year. I never opened The Woods.

I suspect some people here might have been a prior owner of some of those fake ID's.

We lived about 3 doors down on Cleneay. I do recall a few trips in their for darts and beverages (not in that order). Or at least, I recall them as well as possible since it's 30+ years later and they were fuzzy just the next morning. We were accepted, if not really welcome in the beginning. Or the end.

I did NOT add to the fake ID total, but I was there. What was the greasy spoon diner around the corner? That was kind of out my back door, and I was young enough to survive what both places were serving.

Hahaha laughing so hard about the "Over the years had 200 fake ID's confiscated, wondering how to work that in the new space" comment. Obviously I'm too young to remember the place, but it seemed like a cool little spot, I'm all for more bars around campus (no offense to Dana's, that will forever and always be #1 no matter what.)

That could be the place.....

Not Bob's or Eva's or whatever, but right on that corner.

My son bought a fake ID cheap as a freshman. Bought some carry out beer and got arrested. Possession of alcohol is small potatoes next to possession of the fake ID these days. Spend enough and do enough and you can make that felony charge go away. But UGH!

I'm pretty sure it was at the corner of Cleaney and Montgomery.
But...it was a long time ago.

Hmm I obviously got off the hook, I never had my fake ID taken, and I got into Arnie's at Newport, and bunch of other places. The thing is my fake ID was expired and said I was 25, and also my cousin from Tennessee, whom I looked nothing like. I remember when I finally turned 21 and bought alcohol at Donna's for the first time with my new ID, the guy literally said "About damn time you turned 21 and stopped using that awful fake. Go get yourself some beer on us."

Identity theft is a felony, we learned. Yes, you were lucky. I couldn't buy beer at Dana's when I arrived at the age of 17. Dan carded me day one, and I had my Big Dan with a soda. On my 19th birthday at McCarthy's someone tried to buy me 19 shots of Wild Turkey, to go with my beer. That did not end well, but somehow I magically turned 21 all over town and no one ever questioned me. Word might have spread, and everyone felt sorry for me. I must have aged horribly as a result of the fine care I took of myself.

Me too, except when it was cold/snowing, I would make the stop a halfway point from Husman.

I was a YUUUUge fan of The Woods!!! There were multiple times a year we would stay late at Dana's, open The Woods, then head to H&H Grill for breakfast. Those were the days. I'm excited to see how they set up the bar.

The headline has fooled many people into thinking a new version of The Woods is being built on campus...as in a brand new bar/restaurant. I read some posts on Facebook where folks were planning to hit The Woods when they are back in town (and the mythical building is finished).

They will be salty when they find out it is "just" the old bar, and it will be located at the top of the Cintas Center. Only way to have a beer at that bar will be to buy a ticket to an event, and hike up to the rafters.

I like the idea of a huge bar being at the top of the Cintas. Hoping they will have PBR on tap. A blue ribbon program deserves a blue ribbon beer. There's my marketing degree paying off.

The only time I ever got thrown out of a bar was at the Woods. The reason was that they didn't believe my ID was real. When I told them I'd rather them call the cops than confiscate it, and I meant it as a joke. I think I even laughed as I said it. They got pissed and told me to get out. The doorman was hammered. That was the last time I ever went in there. What's funny is that it was about a year after I had graduated. I was just meeting some friends there. Obviously I wasn't a regular, so I really didn't care.

I NEARLY got kicked out of Dana's once.

I was asleep on a Sunday night when my roommate returned from an away soccer trip at St. Joe's. I was in Cincinnati with a torn UCL and was asleep when he got home. It was his 21st birthday and Dana's was staying open. We stayed there until at least 4:00 AM. At some point, a bartendress was (what I thought) slow with a drink and I was too aggressive in letting her know. I was told to leave, but apologized profusely and was allowed to stay.

That's definitely the only thing I remember about that night.

Oh I have done MANY things that warranted being kicked out of many places. I wasn't violent or anything like that. But, I liked to drink A LOT, and did. I've passed out. I've gotten sick. I've spilled things, broken things (albeit all on accident), and basically made a complete drunken ass out of myself. Many times, actually. But, the one time I actually got kicked out of a bar, I wasn't doing a damn thing. And, it was The Woods of all places.

How ironic is that??

I didn't get the name Brew from drinking coffee. I drink very seldom now. Pretty much only when I'm on vacation. But, I was routinely drunk enough to be thrown out just about every time I went out, but never was except for one time when I wasn't drunk at all.

Not a huge fan of the location but I would like to see the old bar again.

Lots of great memories:
Friends who'd put $10 in the juke box at midnight to put "hit me baby one more time" on repeat until closing. (You're welcome '94)
Big Ted fake bouncing at the door
Donny...
Spent the evening of 9/11 there as a friend turned 21 on the 12th
Weds karaoke with $1 pitchers
The whole bar singing "God Bless the USA" at last call (when Brittany was not on)

Good times....

I got kicked out of Dana's once but that was due to Xavier boxer's getting into a fight with guys from the rugby team(under the Dan Delaney regime). I kind of had a free pass at the Woods as my roommate was in a band with Charlie's son so I was good to go as long as I wasn't being a total dick. Presently, I don't don't any more and I don't drink any less.

Please, best memory for me at Dana's was definitely graduation morning after pounding 2 mimosas in the shower, and being with the entire graduating class pounding Herschel's the entire morning before we had to go to Cintas. After wards, my mother hugged me and was like "Holy hell, are you seriously this drunk at noon????"

or Dana's .15 cent drafts.

I remember when a glass of beer was 20 cents at Dana's and a mug was 25 cents. We checked how much more the mug held and determined the answer to be that the mug held less! My most successful science accomplishment while at XU.

I stopped by the Cintas yesterday to check out the progress. The new seating is being installed, nearly completed on the side opposite the bench, and about to get underway on the other side. I also went up top to see how the Woods bar installation is coming. The backside of the bar is up, and the bar itself is ready to be added. It is going to look great, and there appears to be two rows of standing area to consume the produce. The downside....the only bathroom is all the way around on the other side. That said, it is going to be great to have two drinking options up top. It is almost enough to make me want seats up there, but I love being in row I (before) and row J (now) on the lower level. Plus at $9 a pop, the beers up top are a bit pricey for me. Wish they would roll back the prices a bit for next season.
