Indianapolis Star - Trevon Bluiett Facing Possession Charge (http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/basketball/2017/04/10/xaviers-trevon-bluiett-facing-possession-charge/100302190/)
Xavier guard Trevon Bluiett was arrested Monday afternoon on one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, hash oil or hashish, according to Hamilton County Jail records.
Someone is going to have to fill me in on what hash oil or hashish is.
He's trying to fit in with the NBA guys?
Bummer.
Like JP's transgression, a minor thing in the grand scheme, but wholly unnecessary nonetheless. We have had three guys arrested within the last 12 months, which is not great.

His marine parents will probably kick his ass.
Hash is popular in areas where it's legal. The oil made from the cannibus plant, is very concentrated, and loaded with THC. That stuff will f**k you up....from what I hear.

They are usually called Dabs. And they are extremely convenient. Usually smoke the oil in a vape pen. Hardly any smell and it doesn't smell at all like that pungent flower smell. You could be sitting next to a guy smoking one and if he told you it was an E-cig, you wouldn't know any different. You can get high THC or high CBD for medicinal purposes...but yes, very strong and it lasts forever...from what I hear.
Irresponsible of Trevon...keep it in your room.

It's pot/hash/hash oil, so most likely he got popped with marijuana. This is a bummer, but as people said above not a huge deal. Now his parents might kick his ass a bit.

I just did a quick look at the marijuana laws in Indiana. This is the lowest level of misdemeanor one can get in the state for possession of marijuana.
As a side note, Indiana treats weed way more seriously than Ohio. My guess is that if he was caught for this in Ohio he would get a pay out ticket and couldn't even face jail time. In Indiana he can get 180 days, which he won't see a day of but you get my point.

I would venture to guess that the majority of teams have some off the court issues in the off season. Luckily this isn't that big of a deal but you'd hope Tre would be smarter than to have it out in public. Let's just hope no one has a "hold my beer" moment and one-up him.

Knowing a bit about Carmel cops, chances are Trevon was stopped for DWB, and it just so happens they found weed.Pretty much, they are the Mayberry police force.

He's been doing pre-draft workouts back in Indy. Getting ready for combine and the camps. Don't quote me on it, but pretty sure the guy he's working with works Gordon Hayward out as well and knows his stuff. Having the actual weed, not that big of a deal. Kind of stupid for one who could almost see his goal ahead of him. I seem to have read somewhere that he was found with 30 grams. If so that's over an ounce and if that was hash, seems to me that would probably be the equivalent of a half pound or more of weed. Simply stupid on his part and I hope that he gets through it. I think all of I-465 is a 55-MPH limit up there.
As for here in Cincinnati, I-275 is a 65-MPH limit, although I've heard rumblings that ODOT wants to make that a variable speed limit based on road conditions, time of day, etc. It would be great if they'd just make it 70 MPH during off-peak hours, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've known that marijuana has medicinal qualities to it that help people with lots of different ailments, but to see what it does for that little girl who was so helpless must have some effect on those who are against its use. To see the change in her brought tears to my eyes knowing that there are probably hundreds more out there who could benefit but aren't able to due to laws. I've never used it but have plenty of friends who have. Hell, I shared a suite with the two biggest distributors on campus when I was at X, so I smelled plenty of it. I don't believe it should be illegal and will vote for it whenever on the ballot in Ohio, mainly to help people who truly need it. Charlotte's story only reinforces that belief. Thanks, Nigel, for the post.

Kasich already passed a bill making medicinal marijuana legal. And as far as I'm concerned, that's as far as it needs to go. I support legalizing it, but medicinal is still good enough for me. My father in law has Parkinson's Disease. He was a world class violinist. It's horrible seeing him shake. My mother in law asked a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic if marijuana would help with his shakes. He said marijuana is illegal and he can't recommend it. But he had read a lot of studies that indicated that CBD helped Parkinson's patients...wink, wink, nod. My mother in law makes brownies and gives him small bites without his knowledge. The difference is unbelievable. No tremors, happy (a symptom of Parkinson's is depression), good appetite. We had a family get together at our house and he had been a small bite of brownie before he came over. Within an hour, my mom commented about how well he was doing and how enjoyable he was to be around...like he acted before Parkinson's. I had to break down and tell her it was marijuana. I then showed her that show. She has since done a 180 on marijuana. He still uses it lightly to this day. I've seen first hand how it helps someone with Parkinson's. can't imagine how it helps military vets with PTSD. There is a Weed show Part 3 that deals with PTSD. It's depressing and enlightening.
Either way, the CBD strain "Charlotte's Web" has become huge with families like those in the show. One sad footnote to that show...Oprah wanted to have the family on her show. But they couldn't fly or drive across state lines because they needed to take the CBD for their daughter, but were afraid of being arrested at the airport or if they got pulled over driving. That's pathetic.
If I had to guess, in 20 years, CBD will be a health supplement. Joe Rogan talks about it on his podcast. He uses Charlotte's Web for brain development.
Oh...and Mike...I knew your roommates. Amazing you never plunged into that scene. Good on ya. Remember Smyd getting hammered on hooch. I will never forget that day/night as long as I live.

Yeah. The fact that it's Schedule 1 in 2017 with everything that's come out is simply mind boggling. One of my biggest gripes with Obama. Under his administration it was never lowered to Schedule 2. Cocaine is Schedule 2. Heroin and Marijuana are Schedule 1.
Interesting thing I recently heard (not learned...not sure it's 100% accurate since I'm not a chemist)...is that opioids and heroin have the same chemical composition. If true, it wouldn't surprise me. So many examples of people taking Vicodin, Percocet, Oxycotin...next thing you know, the scripts run out and those people become heroin addicts. Makes sense. Even though you hear marijuana is a gateway drug, I've not run across a lot of people who smoked weed and their addiction to weed causes them to become addicted to heroin. I'm sure those people exist...but not at the rate of opioid users who ended up hooked on heroin.
If I never used marijuana, I'd feel the same way. Looking at this issue objectively...it just doesn't make sense.
Weed fears should be somewhere in the neighborhood of wine coolers. The long term impact is of real concern, but focus on the damn opioids!

As someone who sees heroin users every day through work, my guess is damn near all of them started smoking weed before they turned to heroin. But I think what's important to note is that it's not the weed that caused them to turn to heroin but their lifestyle, their issues, their friends, etc. So I don't think weed is a gateway drug, I just think it's the first drug used or the first step for many drug addicts who would eventually use anyways.
And on the pain killer issue, there are certainly countless examples of good people who got hooked on heroin through a pain killer addiction. But what I've seen more is people from the lowest class who were going to do drugs regardless and heroin simply is the cheapest and most widely available thing going right now. Most heroin addicts never had the ability nor will ever have the ability to finance a pain pill addiction.
All that being said, heroin is a nasty drug that hurts so many other people besides just the user. They often steal from their family and when they get figured out they start stealing from the community.

This has been my experience too. You definitely see it more than me. I heard a not-so-perfect but logical analogy that if weed is a gateway drug to heroin, then kissing is a gateway to rape. The idea is that most rapists have kissed someone before, but it's obviously not what makes them commit a crime later.
If weed was indeed a gateway drug, there would be a lot more heroin users.

Fair enough. I represented SSD clients for about 7 years....I've seen a lot hard working middle class people go down that road.

I definitely agree. I just don't see it as often. Maybe it's because they do a better job of not getting arrested for it. I don't know. And my unofficial survey is obviously a small and skewed sample size.

Yep. Think we can agree on this. Opioids are not good.

Legalize the shit and control the quality... What scares the hell out of me is someone who gets a batch laced with something really bad and really addicting, which moves them into a direction of much more sinister stuff. I don't have anything to do with the stuff, never have and no desire to start... but I am very aware that there's a general acceptance of it and it scares me half to death to think that kids or anyone could think they are "just" smoking weed when in reality they are smoking weed laced with something highly addictive and potentially deadly which leads them down a path of destruction due to no fault of their own.

His marine parents will probably kick his ass.
Hash is popular in areas where it's legal. The oil made from the cannibus plant, is very concentrated, and loaded with THC. That stuff will f**k you up....from what I hear.
Yeah. It does. From what I "hear".
If he's gonna be smokin', it's best he uses the oil.
Doesn't hurt the lungs at all. Just gives you the buzz.
Good shit.
From what I hear, of course.

It makes me glad that interstates in S.Dakota are 80 mph
He ran a red light so not n the Interstate. However, Carmel, where he was stopped, is the easiest place to get stopped. Their cops are terrible and stop people regularly. He probably went through a yellow light.

He was stopped for failing to signal a lane change, and for going 75 in a 55. Your point is still valid, and that intersection has had cops there every afternoon this week. It's a bad idea to speed through that area. But I haven't seen anything that says he ran a redlight.

Works damn well here in Washington. Makes a ton of money in tax revenue too. The businesses are all local too!

I'm curious about the business side of this after a recent trip to Colorado. Apparently they can't put the money into federally insured banks. What do they do with mountains of cash? How do they secure it? Invest it? One guy was giving the industry credit for a lot of the local development saying after they had houses, cars, boats and other toys, they invest it in development. Is there much (or any) truth to this?

I heard there was a guy in Colorado that wanted to make a bank just for pot money. He would take the risk but it would not be FDIC insured obviously but still safe to store your cash.

I read an article (rolling stone maybe) about a year ago that described the creation of security companies and private banks to assist with money that could not be deposited in traditional institutions.

Yeah, there would have to be some new industries popping up to serve a whole new set of needs.

One of the Colarado entrepreneurs PURCHASED a closed bank branch equipped with a walk-in safe to handle his "liquidity management" needs.
