Semaj doing his part with the three. I'm still bitter about the loss to UCLA/Westbrook and Love but this has been an impressive season to say the least. And this one assist makes it a little less bitter.

A lot of Westbrook in that video and article.

Westbrook gets triple-doubles all the time. Semaj hitting a three...now that's an event.

Semaj averages 2.0 asts and 0.7 turnovers a game, almost 3-to-1 ratio! I like it, hope he gets more playing time next year.

And I saw he makes over $500K/yr on his bio page, good for Semaj! I'd say it worked out well!

Westbrook also ended the Nuggets Playoff hopes with his buzzer beating 36 ft. 3. Ugh.

He's also shooting 35% from the field, 18% from three, and 55% from the FT line, while averaging 2.8 points. He's going to have work on those numbers a lot if he wants to stick around.

Semaj got a call out from Zach Lowe (see #10)....though not necessarily in a good way:

I can't understand ever playing Semaj off the ball. An 6'3", 18% three-point shooter at the 2, playing next to another slasher in Westbrook? Lunacy.

Agreed, lots to improve but the 3 to 1 assist-to-turnover rate in rookie season is pretty cool to see, even if it is in limited minutes.

Wow that writer is a real dick about it. How can you already say that a guy will be horrible when Westbrook eventually leaves when that guy is in his first year in the NBA?

This may be Semaj's first year in the NBA, but he's 24 yrs old and in his 3rd year out of school. It's not like he's a frosh setting foot on the court. And while the article was harsh, that was its intended tone. The point, frankly, is accurate. Semaj still has tons of potential, but you're only going to get so many chances with shooting numbers like that.

But it's basically his first year in the NBA, obviously the highest league in the world in going to take a slight learning curve. I think he can improve on those numbers, just needs to continue to work at it, we know he has the talent, it'll be interesting to see if it pans out into a nice little career.

Sure, it's harsh but it's accurate. Right now Semaj is not a good NBA player. Hopefully the Thunder will keep him around and he'll get a shot to improve, but I also wouldn't be shocked if he's back in Europe in the near future.

I'm rooting for Semaj. But realistically he needs to turn it around quickly. As a first year player he played at the league minimum this year. Any dollar over that (starting next year) would be difficult to justify since his numbers could be replicated by just about any other league minimum player. That's not to say that he won't be given a chance to produce and prove himself, but he'll have to do it quickly. The NBA -- like all major pro sports leagues -- is up or out.

Yeah. I give Semaj a lot of credit for working his butt off and even making it to the league. If he isn't there long it's certainly not for lack of effort. He'll be ok though. Even if he isn't quite good enough for the NBA, I think he would have a good career in Europe like Doellman, Sato and D-Brown have.

Unfortunate, I'm hoping somebody takes a flier on him, if only he had the shooting ability of Tu Holloway, he would be a freak of nature.

Nice ink by Sumner following David West’s lead.

A two-way contract is a professional sports contract which stipulates that an athlete's salary is dependent upon the league in which the athlete is assigned to play. This is opposed to a one-way contract that would pay the same salary regardless of where the athlete is assigned to play.

Sumner's injury is really unfortunate. It cost him a ton of money.

2-way contracts are much more favorable to the team than the player. While in the D-League, Sumner will make just 70k a year and while he does get a bump if he is called up, he can only play a maximum of 45 days for the Pacers.

Would have been better served to sign A 1 year 2-way deal and thus be a restricted free agent in year 2 and actually have a shot at making the roster, plus sign a league minimum contract at worst.

Injury screwed him out of roughly 2 million dollars or more.

Picking Sumner was like buying a potted 1 ft tree, with the idea that someday it would provide shade in a yard. He's lucky he was drafted at all.

Semaj is playing in a tournament at the Friars Club this weekend. He's on a team with Jordon Crawford (the LaSalle/Bowling Green one, not the X one) and Devin Williams. They are scheduled to play at 11 tomorrow and then again at 1:15 and 2:15 if they keep winning.

I really enjoy Semaj, it's unfortunate the NBA route didn't work out, but he's had a solid season in China, and is doing well in Israel right now, I'm hoping he gets another shot at an NBA roster, I think he has the ability to be a really solid option off the bench. Very athletic, gets to the rim at will, but at the end of the day he's making 6 figures playing a game he loves, so definitely something to be proud of no matter what.

He's also playing in that "made for ESPN" $2,000,000 TBT but it looks like his team is a long shot at winning it. J-Craw, Tu and Remy are also competing for the cash along with Dez Wells. Crawford's team has a real shot at winning it.
