When you wake up and realize this is the day you have waited for your entire life.
This season……….this season has given us all that we could experience. It has taken us from unprecedented anticipation to the depths of despair and now to the precipice of our greatest glory.
Mere days ago we were minutes from a season in ruin. Now we stand forty minutes from triumph, forty minutes from the land long promised. And stand together we do, shoulder to shoulder, brothers in arms, a Xavier Nation united, ready to sacrifice all.
Many years this nation has gathered in March, many years with the hope to break through. Now, when all looked lost, when the chances were the faintest, now comes our time, now Xavier rises from the ashes like a…………

This game is all I can think about. I've been on and off this board about 5 times since 5:30am.

I remember my first ever Xavier game back in the 94-95 season when my dad took me for the first time. It was against Calipari and Camby on Umass in the Gardens. It was a close game hard fought but Umass won in the end. Ever since I was hooked. Saw so many games and rode so many highs and lows.
Was at the UC game when they were number 1 in '99, I remember traveling to Market Square Arena to see our Muskies play Purdue (the only big team willing to schedule us at the time. I remember skipping my physics class to watch our Muskies beat St. Joes to start the run, going to NCAA tournament games all over the country, going through the highs and lows of the last few decades.
All of that time, emotion and investment gets paid off today. I never though I'd see this day when I became a fan oh so long ago. Today we play, today we scrap, today we reach a new pinnacle. We will win this game and will see our first final four!!

That was the perfect game with which to start a lifelong devotion. Still, probably the most electric game I have ever been to.
A trip to the Final Four and beyond, starting tonight, is going to be quite a satisfactory payoff for all those years of investment.

My sports rooting life has taken a real turn for the better this past year. The Cavs win the NBA title in historic fashion. The Tribe comes out of nowhere to battle the Cubs to a historic World Series and though they lost, it was two teams that hadn't won a title in forever. Then, there's today. It feels very similar to the Tribe vs Cubs World Series. Two recognizable teams, neither of which who've who've been to a Final Four, but are a standard bearer for smallish private schools that have long been a trademark for DI college basketball success. I have a feeling that this is the year that X gets to the promise land of the Final Four based on how the sports gods have been treating me since last June. Now, the only fly in the ointment here is that my pathetic Browns are nowhere near joining this winning streak of mine. But, yet, I'm banking on X because where I fell short against the Cubs in my rooting success, Cubs fan extraordinaire Carl Spangler has me covered.
GO X!

What it boils down to is we are freaking owed!!! The Bengals losing six straight playoff games with the horrendous Steelers finish, the Reds getting swept at home when they only needed to win once, last years Wisconsin game, Ken Griffey Jr. injuries, Ki Jana Carter... the list of sports futility in this city is historic. The Sports Gods owe us just one!!!

I told my daughters at X to work as hard as they can today at nursing and occ therapy and "offer it up".. I am at work and will "offer it up"..my wife is at a charity 5k and i told her to "offer it up". At 5 it is time to focus on this special day and not talk it to death as I can do. May the best team win and I learned a long time ago that making the sign of the cross at the foul line will not make the shot go in.
Ok, I have the tickets, and have the hotel reserved. Just waiting until approx. 8:20 to get the plane tickets. Today is the day. Destiny.

All I can think of are the nights in 1969 sitting on the front row of the bench seat bleachers Courtside at the SchmidtHouse watching Xavier lose to Thomas More and Hanover (does that school even still exist?). Now we have come to this precipice.
I was also thinking this morning that this game tonight is equivalent to the Cubs Indians World Series. Two long awaiting fan bases, two long-anticipating entities. But Xavier is the Cubs....longer awaiting and anticipating while the cute Zags are the Indians- by comparison, Johnny Come Latelys. Guess who won...and will win tonight?
When we win tonight, I am going to cry. No sheet. I will. Then my next move is booking a plane flight to Phoenix, Arizona.

If Xavier follows up the Cubs winning the World Series by advancing to their first Final Four, then nothing will ever top this five-month stretch of sports for me. As it is, the Cubs winning it all is the best sporting moment of my life. Hoping that X can match the feeling I experienced in early November...

My earliest recollection of Xavier basketball is having to stand on my seat to watch Xavier beat Louisville at the old Riverfront Coliseum. From that moment a long time ago, when I was a little squirt, I've waited for this day.
We've been on the doorstep twice...tonight we break that motherf*cking door down. We will not be denied.

Imagine the narrative - Bill Murray rides the Cubs and Xavier to their respective promised lands.
This is destiny. This is as it should and will be.

So will I, MOR, so will I. I can't begin to explain the emotions I'm feeling or will feel. I know that I will be proud of the team no matter what happens. But I will be so happy if they finally reach the promised land after wandering in the wilderness for over 40 years. Right now I'm thinking about all of the members of the Xavier family that we have lost over the last few years, and I'm wishing they were still here to see this happen, but I know that their spirits still support the university that they loved. I am also thinking of all the great players that have worn the uniform over the years, and how much it will mean to them for X to finally get there. I'm so nervous I can't sit still, but the clock just seems to be crawling. Every minute seems like an hour, every hour is a day. Perhaps because this is so unexpected this time around, and because I know that many of us don't have a lot more chances ahead of us, it just seem to mean so much more this time around. GO X!!!!!
