That was...shocking. And totally awesome.

I've had things to say about them but loads of credit to the coaching staff. They designed the only game plan that would work: let AZ shoot it. Arizona didn't deliver. Then when it was clear that the defensive boards were a persistent problem, they went to Sean, which was the only lever that would work.

When they got down, the team didn't quit. That again is credit to coaches in part.

The under a minute call to Sean was amazing. Unpredictable and, best of all, 2 for 1.

On the other hand, I thought Miller called two questionable TOs that left them with none for the last minute and I think it made a real difference. AZ was disorganized and a TO would have been very nice.

I know your post is out of post-loss frustration, but I really do think that is one of Mack's HUGE strengths -- his flexibility from roster to roster. He re wrote the offense for Jordan Crawford's year, implemented the 1-3-1 two years ago, and the list goes on. Huge strength for him as a coach.

That is exactly right. At a game that I attended in Providence 3 years ago. We stunk it up the first half, then Mack went to a second half zone. We came back to make it an overtime game, lost, but the Zone became a fixture...and expanded upon.

Wildcats fan here. Just wanted to say great game Xavier played. Both teams were back and forth and it's unfortunate most fans on the East coast and Midwest (except Xavier/Ohio) missed one of the best games of the tourney this far.

I was very impressed with Coach Mack's defensive adjustments and different ways he was able to disguise and run different variations of the 1-3-1. I thought the Cats had the game in the bag being up 7 with 2:30 to go but X showed resiliency to make stops and quickly come back hitting clutch shots. Was very impressed with Xavier's guard play. Blueitt first half and Bernard second half were hitting key shots as both teams traded buckets. Macura was impressive all around. As a fan it was frustrating to watch us shoot so many 3's at a poor percentage but credit to your defense as a majority were contested. Luckily we were able to grab quite a few offensive rebounds to keep us in the game.

I knew it was going to be a battle and X proved that tonight. Although you are an 11 seed I knew in reality that was not the case. After the Sumner injury it took a few games to figure it out but boy did you guys ever at the right time. Any teams in your way that don't recognize that will be in for a surprise. It's hard getting knocked out (as it always is for all fans) but especially thi year. I thought this would be destiny this year for Arizona with the West seed and final four in Phoenix. Gonzaga will be a tough test but with the way your team is playing I am looking forward to a great matchup to punch a ticket to the final 4.

Your team reminds me quite a bit of Arizonas 97' team that struggled right before March. Great guard play. Front court not as talented as other teams in the field but play great defense and know their roles. Wouldn't be shocked to see Xavier continue on to the final 4. I will be tuning in and cheering for X the rest of the way. Being a single elimination tournament is what makes March Madness the best sporting event and also frustrating for us fans. Good Luck the rest of the way and go make history!

Thanks Iggy24. This X team has rallied together and really took their game to another level the past 2 weeks. This team was ranked in the preseason Top 10, but some circumstances (Sumner torn ACL, Trevon missing 3 games with ankle injury, Myles Davis, etc.) had an impact on this team that one point saw them really struggling to regain their footing. Mack never gave up and the team never gave up. This team still has a lot of talent on it. Goodin is a true freshman running the point. Tyrique is a true freshman playing valuable minutes.

Beating Arizona is a HUGE win for this program. Not just because Sean is the coach, but because you guys are a really, really good team. Regular season Pac12 champs and Pac12 Tournament Champs - that is hard to do in any conference.

I can't say enough about the job Chris Mack has done this year, as well as the players who have never given up. Bring on Gonzaga!!

Agreed. It's shows tremendous class for Miller to go seek out all of the X players on the floor and congratulate them.

Proud to see that kind of attitude coming from a former X head coach. Seeing him prove he could be a very talented head coach (while at X) was quite special. Seeing him prove that he remains one of the classiest coaches feels equally special.

Miller's intense but a very classy and personable guy. There's a reason his peers have so much respect for him.

Just for the hell of it...and because I CAN...I went back and watched this classic again. I will be saving this one on the DVR for a long, long time.

The thing that struck me as I watched the game, was how on the money Chris Webber was as a Color Analyst....right down to basically calling the last play to Sean O'Mara. At every point in the game he said something pertinent that the teams should...and should NOT do. It was truly one of the best jobs of analyzing a game...and providing insight as to what SHOULD happen if you are one side or the other.

Truly exceptional.
