I think you're onto something.
Slightly different angle at it: secure an NIT game and play it in Schmidt Memorial Field House, assuming we get permission from Xavier Rugby to do that.
If we're heading towards full retro, then let's go full retro.

Would need to get permission from the Cincinnati RollerGirls. That's their home now!

So, we're possibly stuck mucking up the Cintas Center some more with this crew.
There are simply no excuses for this level of collapse. Sorry.

Cintas is unavailable. And if we get an NIT invitation we'd almost certainly decline.

Which brings me to ask; someone on the other board mentioned if we get an NIT invite we can't turn it down. Does anyone know how true that is?

I had to google that. It was worth it.

IF we get an NIT invite, which I still believe will be a moot point, Xavier will almost definitely decline. For one, there's no benefit of reaping extra home-game revenue as the Cintas Center is already undergoing internal renovations.

I don't know, I really think we should trade the pick for Garroppolo and a lower pick, we're really reeling at the QB position right now.

Ah yes, the renovation.
I can only hope my feable attempt at gallows humor was wasted typing anyway.

Hmmm interesting. When LSU declined last season the articles made it sound like the coaches met, decided to decline, then informed the team. I don't understand how a team would be required to accept especially when it's an on campus tournament.

This article disagrees (and includes more detail). It says a team may not decline only if it signs an NIT contract, which is generally distributed to potential participants in late January.

Declining an NIT bid would be bullshit on our part. I cannot think of any rational reason for doing so. Who do we think we are anyway ?

Injuries, lack of depth, no arena to host games.

Yep, looks like things have changed.
One potential impact of turning down an invite would be the effect it might have on our ability to draw grad transfers in the future.
Those guys are typically seeking out a spot where they can have a shot to play in the postseason and if we shut the season down effectively ending the career of two of those type of guys I could see that being used against us heavily in those recruitments going forward.

Personally, I'm not buying any of those. More practice time, more experience for Q, Gates & Tyrique against good competition. Play on the road. UK had the balls to do that.

Couldn't we accept and show that Cintas Center is under renovation, asking to play away only?
I don't like the fact that we're discussing how we'd handle an NIT bid. Let's beat DePaul (x2) and Butler and delete this discussion!

Don't need to host. And who cares about injuries and lack of depth? Guys who are hurt can sit. We should start Stainbrook and play him 40 minutes before we decline.

I hear NKU is amenable to letting other teams use their gym.

Assuming there aren't already events scheduled for BB&T Arena during those dates.
Even if for some reason, they can't find anywhere to play in the Cincinnati area, I still think it would be weak to turn down an NIT bid, even if I don't want to watch them play in the NIT. So yeah, please X, at least beat DePaul twice (and maybe Butler) so we don't have to have this convo.

This happens almost every year in the NIT. Colleges have conflicts in their arena and play in the other team's gym. I am sure a revenue agreement is made.

If Cintas can't be used, use NKU. Between 3.14 and 3.22, when the 1st three rounds are played, NKU has one event scheduled.

It's one more game, in a tournament atmosphere, for the freshmen in either event - NCAA or NIT. You take it and you run with it.

Hey, I come here to escape in-depth discussions about QB hand sizes. #TheOrangeIsOranger
I don't know, I really think we should trade the pick for Garroppolo and a lower pick, we're really reeling at the QB position right now.
Mitchell (that's what he wants to go by now) measured 6'2" at the combine. We're set now at #1.
