View Full Version : Best Burgers in Cincy

I know this has been discussed and there was a best burger thread in the USA but I wanted to make one specifically for Cincy. I am on a quest to find the best burger in cincy. I've been to a bunch of places over the years but am wanting to try new places I havent been yet recently.
I am hoping to have people give me recommendations about places I may not know or havent been to yet. I have been to Terry's Turf Club (currently my favorite), Sammies in Blue Ash, Zips, Arthurs which have all been good.
Tomorrow I was planning on going to Quatmans becuase I have never been there but then someone else mentioned Gordos which I have also never been to. So my questions is which do you all think is better? Which should I check out tomorrow, the other will have to wait at least a few weeks so I want to make the right choice on which is next.
Thanks for the advice and other recommendations!

Anyone ever heard of Five Guys? Sorry couldn't resist.
Sorry, breaking the rules, but Zip's is my go to when I get to town. Period.

Agreed.

One of my wife's friends mentioned she had never done Five Guys. My wife was shocked, but my wife had never heard of the franchise.

Agree with 82, it has to be Zips...
EDIT: Gordo's is a close second though.

Here's a list to give you some good ideas. A lot of these are just burgers offered at fancy restaurants but the lists includes good burgers from neighborhood spots.

Gordos vs Quatmans?
Gordo's, and there is no question about it for me. Especially if you are just factoring in the burger itself. burger from Gordo's > burger from Quatman's every single time for me. Quatman's just adds a little bit more character. And you can get a burger, beer and fries for like $6 or something like that. Quatman's is good, but Gordo's is much better.

Put Dana's on the top of the list
For franchises, IMO, Steak & Shake > 5 Guys

Oakley Pub and Grill has a pretty good burger, not sure if I would put it at the top, but worth a try.

My two favorite burgers in Cincinnati have been City View in Mt Adams and Hotel Covington. Haven't tried that many though. Gordo's was pretty good too.
The burger at Turner Hall across from the Bradley Center on Saturday, on the other hand, was complete trash.

Yeah I saw their burger on the list Juice posted.
I think my two favorites so far are from Terry's and Sammy's.
Admittedly it has been a while since I have had Zips and Arthurs but I know both were very good. Also need to try Quatmans, Gordos, and Danas burgers.

1. Terry's
2. Gordo's
3. Arthur's
4. Quatman's
5. Zips
Did not get the hype about Zips the one time I went. Maybe I went on a bad day.

Zip's burgers are tasty but small and the place is overhyped because of its location. Quatman's is #1 on my list.
City View I also remember being pretty good but it's been a while and I always had a pretty good beer buzz on when eating there so that may have affected my judgment on exactly how good it was.
Been to Gordo's several times and maybe I hit it on bad days but the whole place had a stale beer/sewer smell that made it tough to enjoy the burger.

Ok so I am going to Gordos. I just saw a burger on yelp that wasnt on their website for some reason that does appear to be on their menu called the hangover.
Just your standard burger, smoke gouda, smoked sausage, cheddar cheese, canadian bacon, bacon, onion straws (I will not get) and bbq sauce.
My wife will look at me disgustingly with tons of judgement but that burger looks awesome. Plus I start in a weight loss challenge tomorrow, its my last hurrah (well for a little while!).

Good strategy to bulk up before the weigh in. Makes those first few pounds easier to lose.

Had it when I was in town for the Nova game. Really good.

Gas Light in Oakley. We used to stop there fairly regularly before games back in the Gardens days and have been a few times in the past several years but the burger was always good there.

Re-read the other thread. It is mostly Cincinnati based.
I would never be in the mood to pick between Quatmans and Gordos. Not really the same in my book. Basic vs. 'gourmet'.
Brew River has some good burgers. Add that to your list.
Also, if you are ever in the mood to drop $20 on a burger, you absolutely have to have the burger at the Precinct. Hands down the best burger patty I've ever had. Comes with fries and bread, so if you get there at happy hour with someone that you can split a burger with, you can actually get out of there for not much more than your tab at Zips will be, and you will be full. (My only knock on Zips is that the prices have increased more than inflation over the last 10 years).
The Cork and Cap has a very good Jalepeno Burger that they just added to their menu. I recommend it.
Haven't been to Flipdaddy's in a while. I remember it being a little hit and miss depending on the burger, and the atmosphere was straight up strip mall. Great beer selection though.
I think Mac's on the Pike has some surprisingly good burgers.

Thanks for the other suggestions. A buddy of mine mentioned Cork and Cap, I had never heard of that place before.
Have been to flipdaddys and remember it being good but nothing special.
I will add the others to the list.

If you're ever on the south side of the river, get a double from Herb and Thelma's. That's my vote for best classic burger in the area.

All that have been mentioned are great. Lot's of love for Gordo's, Zip's and Arthur's (do they still do Burger Madness?? Can't remember exactly all the details but I feel like it was early in the week and you could get any burger with any toppings for something like $6).
Have to try Ollie's Trolley! It's exactly what it sounds like, a little trolley with maybe two tables outside and no seating inside down on Central Ave. Ollie Burger and Ollie Fries are amazing.

Well crossed Gordos off the list. It was good, toppings were very good. Only issue was my burger was cooked slightly more than what I asked for. Asked for medium and it was medium well. Think I would have liked it even more at medium but it was still very good.
Steak fries were also very good.
I would still put Terry's and Sammy's as my 1, 2. Glad I went and got a burger at gordos though, it was definitely worth the visit.

Just across the river. Get off the 12th St exit, take a right and go up the hill about 300 yards. It's the red brick building on the right at the first light.

Haven't made it to Terry's, but for me it's 1) Zip's 2) Gordo's then everyone else followed by Quatman's. Not a fan. Will take 94Grad's advice and add Herb and Thelma's to my list.

If you are in the Montgomery area check out Bones Burgers. Was just a food truck but they opened a storefront recently. Good food and beer!

I had a really good burger at Trios in Kenwood fairly recently but I go along with Gordo's, Zips, sammies. For the money and for a simple basic burger, I do love Quatman's. I have not made it over to Terry's. It's a pretty good drive for me.

I've been saying Quatman's since 1974 and will continue to say Quatman's until I croak. Which, by the way i hope isn't for a long time.

For a good simple burger, you can't beat Quatman's. Terry's is good, but I think a little overpriced. Last time my wife and I ate there, it was over $50 for the two of us for two burgers, fries, and a couple of soft drinks.

No typo. It was just over $50, but that included the tip. I think the bill itself was about $42.

My wife has a Christmas party every year at a lady's house who lives a couple miles from Terry's, so she gets it to go for the family once a year. 3 burgers, some sauces, 3 fries and chili is always around $65-70. It's really good...but I'm not sure the price is justified when you can get a burger at Culver's for $4 that isn't as good but still is damn good.

Cheeseburgers are good.
Sounds like someone just had a cheeseburger?
This thread just made me realize I probably don't have more than 10-12 burgers a year now. But some of that comes when I get back to Cincinnati and go to Zip's as much as I can.
