For the second year in a row, it doesn't look like the Mountain West will have a single team land inside the bubble. Fresno State got the only bid last year and ended up on the #14 line. San Diego State was probably on the bubble, but they did not get inside of it and were left out. When this league was in a single division format, it was almost always a multi-bid league, and it would routinely send four of its eight teams. Expansion has gone to crap.

The Atlantic Ten, another bloated league, is having one of its worst years ever. They have two teams that may end up inside the bubble in Dayton and VCU, and I think there is a better chance of just one of them making it rather than both. They may get a second team, but they'll get it via the automatic bid, and none of the teams will be wearing white in the round of 64.

The Big Twelve is a single division conference, and they're having a down year. It looks like as few as six teams will make it this year.

No need to expand. It's never actually made a league better. The only exception to that may be the WCC adding BYU, but it certainly wasn't the case when they added Pacific, and they never broke away from playing a single division format. The bloated leagues don't get nearly the boost in the power rankings that a single division league who plays a double round robin gets.

Agree, except maybe for the ACC.

Agree, except maybe for the ACC.

In a nine team format, the ACC sent more than half the teams to the tournament more than half of the time. Since expanding to 12/14/15 I think they've done it once. From a success standpoint, and just from a fandom standpoint with the double round robin and all the fierce rivalries, I think it was much better before.

The AAC is another dreadful conference. UC will get in...but after that, they will struggle to get another team in. I think SMU and Houston will end up with some bad losses that are going to significantly hurt their RPI and chances for a bid.

I think SMU will make it. Houston's program is actually healthy and appears to be getting better, but I think they're about another year away. Given how they scheduled, I think they think that as well.
