View Full Version : Long lines to get into Cintas

Who decided we need to wand everyone going into Cintas this year? Is it because of the Tensing case? Took us 20 minutes to get in, missed the first 6 minutes of the game. Not happy.

There was a press release about it before the season. It will be all season long so you should plan accordingly.

I was surprised they did a body cavity search on gladdenguy, but he didn't seem to mind.

I sent a tweet to @CintasCenter about them needing more screeners. They responded that they're looking into it. We'll see on Monday.

Those lines are going to be horrible to stand in as the weather gets colder.

The wanding is ineffective. What they are doing won't detect any weapons on someone trying to conceal them (who has half a brain). If they were to take real efforts to detect weapons they could never get the crowd inside in a timely manner. Waste of time and resources IMHO.

For a place/event always looking for ways to improve the fan experience, this is definitely a pointless detraction and will become very unpopular when they try to get fans to stand in line in freezing temperatures.

There was a press release prior to the season starting it. This has been known about for quite some time. Get there a little earlier. Neither myself or my parents had any issue getting in and we arrived at different times between 30 and 15 minutes before tip. Has zero to do with the Tensing case but rather Cintas finally stepping up security measures which are necessary(sadly) in today's society.

I was there 75 minutes before tip, and had no issues with the security measures now in place. It took less than a minute. I am not sure those wands keep us safe though. If they want metal detectors, go all in and install the walk through kind like they have in the airport and Quicken Loans arena.

I think those would be faster and provide a better search.

Not all of us have the luxury of arriving at Cintas at 5 for a game at 7. Leave work at 5:30, home around 6, eat quickly and pull into the Cintas parking lot at 650. Never a missed a tip before yesterday. Fix it for Buffalo.

The funny thing with these security measures around the country is that they create long lines with masses of people that, if any one had the intention of a mass shooting/bombing, create more targets for them and makes us less safe. But maybe Xavier was doing this less for security and more so they could catch people sneaking in some alcohol with beer being 9 bucks now!!

Why is it XU's problem you cant get there early enough? Obviously they will probably fix issues after the first time but its on you to adjust or just accept you may not get there at tip on weekday games.

It also doesnt add up that you missed 6 mins of game time if you were in line at 6:50pm and it took 20mins. There is probably only so many things they can "fix" for Buffalo, seems the more likely solution is to fix your schedule Monday for Buffalo.

I got in line and was thru it within 5 minutes. Look for shortest line. have your keys and cell phone out. Tell your wife not to bring big purses. Hey even Fr. Graham had to stand in line, he even went to the back of the line. They informed everybody weeks ago. I heard we were one of very few who weren't doing this already. so lighten up. It's here. I am sure at some point we will see machines like the Reds have that you walk thru, but that might not happen until next year. Yes it is going to suck when it gets colder out, but think of the people doing the scans, they have to stand out there longer than you. You bunch of whiney little biotches. This is almost as bad as people who sit for X introductions and play on their cell phones during the game. You don't like it, stay home.

That was a BAD night.

Not to de-rail things, but the worst part was the city trying to blame the damn rock & roll kids and their drugs. Toxicology proved that to be a joke, weeks later on the back page, of course. I'm still pissed off! I was there with a bunch of guys from the rugby club, and one went down. He said he tripped over something. No one got trampled, they suffocated standing up in the crush as I recall it. Then collapsed as space permitted. We were big, young and fit, and we ran away, looking for the other entrances that did not exist.

Sorry, back to lines at Cintas. I only get to a game a year and I can work around it. I feel for others who are inconvenienced.

Well, I've had season tickets since Cintas opened and have never experienced a line to get inside of more than 2 minutes and then only for UC or UD certainly not for Lehgh. They created the problem, they should fix it. And I love the "X sent a press release" posts. None of the folks I talked to were aware that we would be patted down and have to stand in lines. Maybe only those with fax machines got the press release? Or maybe they sent it by telegraph? Or pony express? How exactly does the general public receive a "press release"??

You are clearly out of touch to begin with and what exactly are they "fixing"?

Every large sports venue now has some type of extra security like this. UC, FC Cincinnati, Bengals, Reds etc.

You and everyone else should be thankful X wants to increase the level of security to help prevent a tragic event.

Get there a few minutes earlier than you normally do and quit complaining.

Well, if you're this hard-headed, I'm sure they would much rather have someone in those seats who would prioritize the ensured safety of thousands of people over a minor inconvenience. I don't think they'd have a hard time finding someone else to sit in your seats.

Really trying to figure out why people are defending the fact that the lines stretch out across the entire front entrance space of Cintas and take up to 15 minutes to go through. Its obliviously something that needs to be improved upon, I've never been to a sporting event where the security lines were like that. Just a weird thing to defend. Also, this is just a personal thing, everyone needs to stop thinking that they are some sort of target every time they step outside their house. Its kinda of ridiculous how much "security" people need now a days.

It was literally the first game of the season and the first time they had the new security with a larger crowd.

They definitely need to improve the process significantly. I am surprised to hear some of you saying you got there 15 minutes before tip-off and got in within 5 minutes. I got in line by 640 and did not get into the arena until 705. Perhaps some of you were lucky to get in the lines with two wands while some lines only had one (of course the lines were so long you couldn't realize this until it was too late).

This has been mentioned several times, but this is just a dog and pony show. It simply does not make anyone safer, espeically if they allow huge lines to form like they did on Friday. There were huge crowds of people all gathered in the lines outside, and anyone with nefarious intentions easily could take advantage of that situation. I understand it is the world we live in today, and I'm sure someone in charge thinks it is safer on paper, but it really isn't.

I don't think anyone would defend the process as a finished protocol. Obviously improvements are needed. But the intention is reasonable and it's pretty widespread at sporting events now. Just seems like such a weird thing to threaten to pull financial support for the program over. There are bigger issues in life, such as the outrage that is switching to Pepsi over Coke.

Here is the press release from GoXavier.com, dated 10/27/2016. For those of you who didn't attend the Opening Game, it is advisable to arrive a few minutes earlier than you normally would. I also advise you to bring as little stuff as possible. The more stuff you bring, the more they will go through your shit...and the longer you - and all the other people behind you - will have to wait for that first ice cold beer.

You babies have now been warned, no more whining, bitching, or complaining about these "surprise" security measures now in place. They will improve the process as the season goes along, and the lines will be quicker. If you haven't been to Cintas this season, you should check out GoXavier.com to learn more about what has changed. If your next game at Cintas is in the 2017/18 season, you REALLY better check what has changed. By reading this, you acknowledge things have changed, and the onus is on YOU to research what is in store for you when you attend a Xavier game.

One change you may want to understand right now, and I will save you the chore of researching this...they no longer service Coca Cola products. It is all Pepsi, all the time. So if any you coke loving Xavier fans show up, you better be ready for some Pepsi. Don't have a hissy fit, and act surprised...remember the onus is now on YOU since you have read this post.

Xavier Athletics Announces Enhanced Security Measures For Men's Basketball
Tom Eiser, Xavier Athletic Communications

CINCINNATI --- Xavier Athletics announced a change to the entry procedures for fans attending men's basketball games at Cintas Center this season, following the trend across the country at other collegiate and professional sports venues. All fans entering Cintas Center, including at the main (south), east, west and loading dock entrances will be screened using handheld metal detectors.

"We have worked extensively on enhancing every aspect of the fan experience at Cintas Center," said Xavier Athletic Director Greg Christopher. "Fan safety is at the top of our priority list and we've worked closely with Xavier police to develop a plan to ensure a safe environment."

To help expedite entry, guests are asked to limit items brought into Cintas Center on game day, and all items and spectators are subject to search. Storage facilities are not available for checking prohibited items.

Fans will be alerted of items that need to be removed from pockets and placed in small bowls as a person is screened. Items include cell phones, large key rings, cameras and large metal objects.

The following items are prohibited: outside food and beverages, laser pointers, artificial noisemakers, weapons, inflatables, laptops, video recorders, monopods, tripods, selfie sticks, drones or any items deemed dangerous or inappropriate. Banners, flags and signs may be confiscated if determined to be inappropriate.

Cintas Center doors have and will continue to open 90 minutes before tip-off. We encourage fans to arrive well in advance of tip-off to account for any possible delays entering Cintas Center.

Other changes listed here.... http://goxavier.com/news/2016/11/8/mens-basketball-xavier-announces-whats-new-and-enhanced-for-the-2016-17-basketball-season.aspx?path=mbball

As someone who drives 2 hours to make the games, I can tell you that it was possible in season's past to get to the game at 6:50 and be in your seat at Tip. So the original poster is not wrong. I suspect that this is something that will subside as the season progresses, but I can understand why people are annoyed. While I understand the "get there earlier sentiment", for some people that's not realistic for a variety of reasons.

I think he is bitching at the people who love to bitch. If I missed the tip because of long lines in security, I would have done some research, and made the needed adjustments to ensure it doesn't happen again. It was a failed attempt, but I think we all agree it will likely get better.

If you missed the tip off because of security lines, I am sure there is SOMETHING you could have done to avoid that situation. Some decision during the day, a extra piss stop on a 2 hour drive, that one last email of the day, eating the whole pizza instead of 2 slices...something you did could have changed the time you arrived at the arena. We are responsible for our own happiness, figure out what makes you happy, and make changes to ensure your happiness level. You can't rely on other people to tell you exactly how to make it to the game on time, it's your life. You know it better than us.

Rather than spend the time bitching about it, figure out what happened, and don't let it happen again. And if you miss the first few minutes of the first game, the titanic struggle with LeHigh, I promise you, the world will not end.

100% agree. I showed up about 15 minutes earlier than I normally do because I was aware of the new security measures and still missed the tip. I will of course adjust as necessary, but a 25 minute wait in line is definitely unacceptable especially considering that it is probably less safe, not more, to have huge crowds outside of the security gate.

I will adjust, but the school should too.

It might help if they were actually prepared for the lines. They weren't. There's no defending that. People were lined up in the landscaping (Physical Plant probably isn't thrilled) around the flagpoles. How about setup some barrier gates? People bottlenecking slowed the lines up even more.

Very eloquent and spot on,Nuts

Where do I sign up for the Cintas Pre-Check screening? I want to skip all you suckers like I do at the airport.
Just send me you application along with the $100 fee and I'll get right on processing your request.

I'll do it for $85. That can be in the form of a bar tab at Dana's.

That only applies if I get an express lane to a bar seat at Dana's. Why should I have to rub grubby elbows with the flotsam and jetsam of society?

Ha! I was just getting ready to put up a post requesting a live feed on the situation. Thank you for doing a Les Nesman for us.

I can confirm they have wands at Legoland in Orlando Florida. Only 1 wand per gate though, so big delays to enter the park resulted in me missing the opening for my Kids' favorite ride (Coastersaurus). Somehow, despite this shortage of wands, we survived the day and now head to Disney to enjoy to parks prior to the games coming up.

Update: No wands at Disney... Clearly they are not as high tech as Cintas. Close call, but we made it to Tower of Terror and Toy Story before our fast pass expired....

The Fast Pass expires, it's time to head home.

Got to the game at 6:50 tonight, in our seats before tip off. Many more security folks, and tonight they were inside the lobby so any wait was inside instead of outside. Thanks for fixing the issue X.

Nice of you to put that out there. Well done by all.
