Let's see Bob.
Door #1 has a former Marine General, Head of Homeland Security, with multiple command experiences.
Door #2 has a con artist with a fake university, fraudulent charity, multiple failed businesses, and liable for sexual assault.
Tough choice.
Jonah Goldberg is the guy who reported Trump’s alleged comments and said that he would “Soon have more reporting on it”.
Guess what? There has never been any “more reporting” on it at all from Goldberg or anyone else. There has also been zero corroboration. In fact there have been numerous denials.

For the record I said if it's proven that he said that, it's an indefensible position. My point was that there's literally no proof that he said anything..just an accusation from someone he doesn't get along with. We've had a lot of 'proof crusaders' on this thread and I find it interesting how they apply their standards subjectively depending on who is involved. I'm no Trump defender but I will call out other people's BS.
Let's track how we got to this conversation: I made a statement about how elected dems (squad members specifically) have overtly sided with our enemies and supported Hamas (a narrative that's playing out at Universities across the country) and none of our resident board dems had anything to say about it. Instead we have one deflection regarding Trumps Hezbollah comments and another deflection to Trump's alleged comments from 3 years ago.
I'd like to do a reset and ask Bobbie, Paul and any other Dem what their thoughts are on our elected congress members refusing to condemn Hamas while at the same time lashing out against our largest ally in the region. It looks to me like there's a pretty big fracture among the Dems on this topic.

Smails---Here is the issue on this thread regarding pretty much anything. In one corner we have MOR who will consistently defend anything Trump and the crazy right side of the republican party do no matter what. He reads what he agrees with, posts it to this thread and acts like he has won some argument. Biden bad, Trump good no matter what the topic.
In the same vein, Paul will consistently defend anything Biden and the crazy left side of the democratic party do no matter what. He reads what he agrees with, posts it to this thread and acts like he has won some argument. Biden good, Trump bad no matter what the topic.
It'd be nice if there could be actual discourse on a topic without blaming the other side for everything, but that's precisely what MOR and Paul do...it's their schtick, and like peace in the Middle East, it's never going to be solved.

Parliamentary procedure is really stupid in 2023. There's currently a long speech ongoing in support of Hakeem Jeffries's candidacy for Speaker. Productive.

Assuming this is a thoughtful request, I'll note for the record that I support no people or statements that purport to give support to the atrocities committed by Hamas. They are indefensible.
I will also note that the situation is Israel is very complex. Having Israel violate agreements it made is not helpful in the settlement issue. And having a couple generations born and raised in Gaza, with restricted movements, ringed by barb wire and fences, where water and power can be cut off is bound to produce a lot of crazies that will (indefensibly) do stupid things.
I have been in these situations outside our country, and they are destabilizing and have long term consequences.
No justification for the murder of innocent women and children...no matter what.
Hopefully some day there will be peace for those people trapped on both sides of an equation looking for a solution. I feel for the innocents.

To paraphrase: It’s good because we’re spending the money here to rebuild our weapon supplies. So, in essence we’re going to pay to prolong the war so Ukraine can use up our old “toys” and we can build new ones.

January 6 was a demonstration gone wrong. Entering the Capitol was wrong, but people are free to peacefully demonstrate, which, for the most part, January 6 was.
Of course the demonstrations on 1/6 were fueled by anger over the way that the “Firey but peaceful (lol)” demonstrations were encouraged and condoned by the Democrats and Progressives and the results therefrom. Where most of the Demonstrators(see Rioters) were caught then released with no consequences or even charges in some cases. Where “Demonstrators” in Portland assaulted, injured and maimed Federal Forces and the Federal Courthouse. Where “Demonstrators” in Kenosha burned the city to the ground. Where “Demonstrators” in Atlanta, Louisville, Philadelphia and Minneapolis burned and looted. All with little consequence because of Progressive Democrat Prosecutors and corrupt Democrat City Administrations.
Maybe an equal application of the law in 2020 would have tempered what happened in January 2021?
I believe that is a good bet.

Having spent some time with people like this, you'll pardon me if I go with their evaluation of the situation, and not yours.
This week, some of the military’s most senior leaders took the issue head on and voiced their concerns. They said the damage the holds will do to the military will be felt for years, as young talented officers decide they’ve had enough and choose to get out.
“We’re on the fringe of losing a generation of champions,” Air Force Gen. Mark Kelly, the head Air Combat Command, told reporters this week at a defense conference in Maryland. Kelly said he’s talking to his junior officers, many with families, and they are “people who will take a bullet for the nation, the Constitution.” But when it comes to dragging their family through this, “there’s a red line.”

Serious question. How long should a politician be held accountable for his words, actions or political position? Meaning if he/she said something 20-25 years ago, how much weight or value do you put behind it.
I have always gone with no more than 15 years. If Biden or Trump or whomever said or did something 30 years ago, I don't even consider it worthy of my attention because people change. We all change and hopefully become wiser through our experiences.

I didn't know much at all about this guy, but Hannity's lengthy interview last night with him was impressive. He is a classic southern man of God, so you get everything that is expected from that, which irritates a lot of people on social issues. How exactly do you go about addressing the mental health issues in this country? Mental health is a major plague on this society but the resources need to appropriately address it won’t be coming from Washington anytime soon or ever. They won’t want to fund it. Sorry but this is incredibly shortsighted. There is a lot that can done. Without going into a long diatribe. Here are things that can be done:
1. Fund mental health institutions properly.
2. Make getting the proper help affordable. It’s incredibly expensive and rarely covered by insurance.
3. Stop the obsession with guns in this country. We are the only civilized society with the obsession. Do something sensible to quell this at least a small amount.
4. Overhaul our pharmacy institution. It’s full of corruption. Fix it.

All I am saying is, if someone is known to have intentions of shooting up someplace, they should be incarcerated and treated until that person could be safely released and monitored. That would 100%, for sure, prevent some of this madness.

I don't think he even listed any assets on his federal filing since arriving.
The Daily Beast reports that in financial disclosures dating back to 2016, the year he joined Congress, Johnson never reported having a savings or checking account in his name, his spouse’s name, or in the name of any of his children. In his latest filing, which covers last year, he doesn’t list a single asset either. Which, given that he made more than $200,000 last year—in addition to his wife’s salary—is more than a little odd.
Just odd. But whatever.
I wish he wasn't tying Israel aid to cutting IRS auditing. The latter is proving to be a real win, with lots of overdue monies being collected.

You want the IRS and Israel aid to be a trade off. I don't think they need to be.
The IRS funding was to stretch out over a decade (conveniently not reported by the right). And the increased funding has already paid off in increased back tax payments collected. Modernization of the service, including more e-filing, will also occur.
CBO estimates that portions of the Administration's proposal to increase funding for the IRS by $80 billion over the 2022–2031 period would increase revenues by approximately $200 billion over those 10 years
You don't have to believe the Daily Beast. You can look it up yourself.
Pelosi reported her assets and required finances. It seems Thomas did not. Wouldn't you agree Strange?

I think Smails point was that you chose this particular incident shows your ongoing "stale" obsession.

Am I worried about a repeat performance by the multiply indicted candidate?
Absolutely. Scares the shit out of me for what would happen to our country, and I can't understand (absent the normal fascist following of a make believe strong man) how a major party has that person leading to be their candidate.
But, I've also never heard of a publisher suing a writer for lying in his book. Maybe it happens often, but not that I know of.
Now, someone suing the author about something the author wrote in a book about that someone...yes, that happens.
This sort of typifies everything about the prior administration and their constant BS that continues even today.

Seems like a pretty embarrassing legal argument. I mean, you're the publisher.

He has been in congress for 16+ years. Another example of the need for term limits.

Well said, Bill. Every college student needs to watch this and attempt to understand it (which I seriously doubt is possible). Of course, he has to get in a little dig right at the end.

Ummmm, there is a two step process for that to happen. Did you not learn Civics?
The “Candidate” just can’t achieve power in the United States by mysterious osmosis.
1) The Candidate has to earn the nomination of a party or become qualified on ballots of 50 States.
2) Such Candidate must earn enough electoral votes to become elected.
If YOUR party has enough good ideas and a quality, non dementia ridden candidate, you should not be worried. The American People are smart.
It seems as if you are worried about your own party philosophy and Candidate more than anything else.

As I often note, and repetition is the mother of learning, I'm worried about the other party who has given a person convicted of sexual assault, and currently under indictment, what seems to be a insurmountable lead for their nomination. I hope that isn't the case.
As for my party, the accomplishments for regular Americans in lowering drug costs, investing in an actual infrastructure plan (rather than talking about if for years), with low unemployment and falling interest rates...I think they'll be alright. Many challenges ahead, at home and abroad, but I rather them handling it than a wanna be dictator and his sycophants in Congress who are afraid of his MAGA followers and their cult.

It must really suck to be trapped behind enemy lines down there in SC.
Do you think you would be safer in Gaza?

Neither party has any interest in lowering drug costs. Biggest scam in today’s America.
You have stated you’d vote a dementia patient over Haley. You may be part of the problem just as much as any trump voter.

With trump's recent comments, it's hard to discern who is the bigger dementia patient. He keeps referring to Biden as Obama and thinks Biden is leading us to WWII. LOL. Also sez now Mexico will NOT pay for the wall. Duh.

Fair regarding the dementia patient comment. ThatÂ’s why we as a country need to demand better candidates on both sides. I donÂ’t know who really would be good on the dem side but Haley is an excellent candidate for the republicans. I mean can we have one election where I donÂ’t feel like vomiting if either of them win? I donÂ’t think thatÂ’s much to ask.

We wasted all the decent (not even good, but decent) candidates in 2008 and 2012. Obama was fine, and Romney and McCain also would have been fine. It's been all downhill since then.

Soooooo, Nikki Haley is a major pro-lifer; is against DEI; is against normalization of transgenderism, especially concerning men playing in women's sports, and bathrooms in schools. She believes that marriage is between one man and one woman. She's in favor of expanding charter schools. Haley also wants to make concealed weapon permits easier.
Aren't these are all social issues?
I thought social issues were verboten among some on this board???
Uh oh, maybe I shouldn't of mentioned this. It could be akin to informing those pro-Palestinian insurrectionists that Russia supports Hamas!!

Hi lou errrr uncle Joe! no one has said they are verboten.
Haley isn’t a perfect candidate, I’m never going to agree with a candidate on everything. I don’t like her view on guns for one but my guess is if she won the nomination, she’d ease on that in the general. She is my favorite based on the pool of candidates available. She’s pragmatic, has both domestic and foreign experience, tough but seems willing to reach across the aisle as needed.
I agree with her on pro-life but she’s also not someone who rams stuff down people’s throats based on what she believes like some on the right and left do. In fact, she said on the abortion issue to stop demonizing women, which I can appreciate.
I’d like someone in office with some common sense. That’s been lacking for a very long time in that seat and she seems to have it in spades

Eric Swalwell, who was on the Intelligence Committee and married, sleeping with Feng Feng a Chinese Spy, Really?
If you are fine with this Swalwell activity, and not a parent monitoring their minor kid’s behavior online, then you are morally bankrupt. Just as Lefties are.
And yessir. THAT is personal.

It appears to work both ways. So, the son gets a full report on everything that happens on his dad's devices; and they pay for this app each month.
I think that would raise some security concerns given his position in the government.

Swalwell confirmed that the FBI informed him that he was targeted by a Chinese intelligence operative but he was clear that he cooperated with law enforcement immediately and stressed that he was never accused of wrongdoing.
“The bipartisan House Ethics Committee had this case for over two years. They had the power of subpoena. They received answers from me in response to requests for information. Today, they are closing this matter and did not make a finding of any wrongdoing,” Swalwell wrote.

The smear did work though on some people.
