I think that what ultimately drives the most discourse is that discourse seems to be becoming the main objective. It's all about trolling the other side, or sticking it to the other side. The actual policies don't matter. It's a turf war and the goal is to gain control of the turf and/or to deny the other side any control at all.
The Right calls out Fake News, and in a lot of cases they're right, and it's something that everyone should call out, but a huge faction of The Right also believes in Q, and that the election was stolen, and a bunch of other nonsense that is so fake that it's basically as fictitious as Lord of the Rings. They hate Fake News, but not the Fake News that works in their favor.
The Left is quick to call out what can accurately be described as an Insurrection at the Capitol, and they should. Everyone should. But they don't seem to see any problem with the violence that erupts at their own political protests. This, right here, is one of the many microcosms of the discourse that exists in our country. The Right supports the police!! But...not on January 6th. Not when the police are in THEIR way. The Left wants to Defund the Police!!! (which is stupid beyond description) but..not on January 6th. They wanted the cops on that day!
The Right fears socialism, but I guess they like it if it actually gives THEM something and their people are in charge. The first COVID stimulus checks were mailed out and approved under the Trump Administration. When push came to shove, all COVID testing and vaccines were free to the vast majority of people. The Left says The Right wants to take away their healthcare, but in the time of a pandemic the healthcare was there.
This is one of my favorite observations. I don't know how valid it is now, but I'll share it. You know how you can tell whether a person is liberal or conservative?? By how tidy their house is. Liberals are slobs. Conservatives are neat-freaks. Yet liberals care about the environment, and clean air, and healthy food, and safe farming, and conservatives don't seem to care that the Earth is quickly starting to resemble an elevator that someone farted in. That always seemed kind of backwards to me. But, the environment, and the climate is an issue. Industrial farming is an issue. It's an issue that effects all of us, but yet because (and really ONLY because) The Right looks at it as a "liberal issue," they always push back on it even though it's in their best interest not to. To bend on that would mean losing the turf war!! Even if you don't believe that pollution and the lax restrictions on industrial farming is bad for the climate, you have to at least admit that pollution causes pollution! Why can't the neat-freaks with tidy houses tell the rest of the slobs in America to clean up their freakin' mess!!?? We can't even agree that cleaner air, and healthier better food is a good thing!!
When Trump won in 2016, The Left couldn't handle it. They basically didn't. They basically accused the Russians of hacking in to the voting machines to sway the election toward Trump almost because they needed a coping mechanism. They didn't want to admit that the real reason they lost was because how much people in America thought they sucked. The Right was appalled at the response, and understandably so. They correctly pointed out that The Right had never acted that way before after an election, and insinuated in a way that was believable (at the time) that they never would. They would accept the results and move on. Well...in 2020, THAT OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T HAPPEN!!! Now The Left is calling out The Right for inventing a narrative rather than accepting the results, and they should. But, again, it's the double standard of each side throwing a fit and inventing a narrative when they don't win an election, and calling out the other side for not accepting the results when they do win an election.
The Right calls out The Left for Cancel Culture, and they should. Yet, Colin Kaepernick got cancelled. No one on The Right was too upset about that. They don't want people cancelled...except for the ones they do want cancelled. The Left criticizes The Right for this...yet they themselves won't stop cancelling people for stupid shit that usually doesn't matter and that oftentimes happened a long time ago. I'm highly concerned about the day that someone from The Left realizes that Willie Nelson played Uncle Jesse in The Dukes of Hazzard and demands that he be banished from society. Both sides are all for freedom of speech!! Unless, of course, it's something they don't want to hear.
Here is some advice that won't be followed...
TAKE IT DOWN A NOTCH!!! Realize that if the person who won the election is someone you didn't vote for that you're not shut out of the government, or the system, and that he or she still represents you. You didn't "lose" the turf war. You don't have to leave. Understand that while it looks like The Left and The Right are separated by a hundred miles, the wall that's separating them really isn't THAT tall or THAT deep. If for no other reason than a lot of the things that you think suck about the other side also suck about your own side. We all have to live together. No one is going anywhere. So, figure out out! Let's all grab some beers, and put the game on, and watch it together, and just chill the fuck out a little bit...
Yea definitely a fair assessment XUbrew and some good analogies. Ironically after your post, we spent the next two pages on which side has the most crazies. I won’t hesitate to say - both sides regardless what we decide to call them.
As for Kap, agree if you are talking about his right to peacefully protest. If that was the case, hats off to you because I really can’t think of another example. Sure there are more. Think he canceled himself by his play as MOR alluded to. The NFL went above and beyond to find him a spot.
Where I might slightly disagree is with the stimulus/spending. Yes Republicans can spend like drunken sailors too (have publicly denounce), but they don’t attempt to raise taxes from only specific income earners to hand to others.
Agree there will always be policy differences between the parties. With that said, my biggest beef with Biden to date has and continues to be with leaving Americans left behind in Afghanistan. Just heard the other day they’re still nearly 200 Americans who still want to leave, but are stranded. Administration told us it was only a hundred a few months ago and that’s with getting some home. This should still be a nightly story IMO. Yes plenty of negative Trump stories we can recycle, but why?
Finally, wish we could go back to the days when the press told us the news plain and simple vs what we should think while pushing their own narrative. Heck I heard on radio this morning from NBC news that the 3.5T spending bill is mostly partisan. So when Democrats have to negotiate with two moderate Democrats it suddenly becomes “mostly partisan?” Maybe I’ve complained about the press a time or two…ok think it’s more like 20. But they must think we’re complete idiots…ok they are probably right.

A friend of mine who lives in Jacksonville was headed to his favorite bench by the beach the other morning, but it's occupied by this older guy who had his motorcycle parked nearby. He's decked out in Trumpish regalia. My friend, a friendly sort and a retired Xavier faculty member, sits down at the other end of the bench and strikes up a conversation. It eventually turns to birds, specifically pigeons. The guy tells my friend that most of the pigeons they see have been outfitted by the government with cameras, which is why they move their heads around so oddly. The cameras are implanted to spy on us, he says. My friend asks him what evidence there is to back up his theory, and this guy says that the reason you never see any baby pigeons is because the government grabs them young and trains them to use the cameras placed behind their eyes. This guy was dead serious. My friend decided to end their conversation.

The Lincoln Project is a bunch of grifters off of the Dem Party Resistance. Guys like Rick Wilson and Steve Schmidt made millions in contributions from Dems in their grift and paid off tax liens and bought expensive properties. All of the Democratic candidates that they backed in 2020 lost, and the same thing happened when they were “Republican Strategists”.
And let’s not forget that a sexual harassing pedophile to young boys-John Weaver- was one of the founders and main guys until his scandal.

April: Donald Trump has urged his followers to completely boycott baseball as he admitted he “doesn’t know what the hell he’s watching.”

We have:
- a shipping crisis

- a socialist reconciliation bill on the floor (not infrastructure)
Yet we are still talking about what Trump may or may not have said from an anonymous source? Better yet, why are we still discussing Trump at all? Good grief…

When Trump said to boycott baseball (if he said it) I didn't care.
When Trump said he was excited about going to the World Series, I didn't care.
My biggest (and pretty much only) issue with Trump is while he held public office (the highest public office in the world), he had total disregard for checks and balances, and total contempt for our institutions. That's really it. It actually kind of bothers me that this didn't bother EVERYONE!!! It really should have! The fact that it didn't, and perhaps the reasons it didn't, is a sign that the country is kind of fucked. That should be a total disqualifier from ever being in public office again.
The thing is that The Right doesn't need Trump to win. Had Trump been removed from office or had he not run for reelection, a Republican would probably be the president right now, and they'd probably also have control of the House and Senate. So...why nominate him again??
I think I know the answer...
It wasn't just about winning the election. It's about liking and electing the guy that attacks The Left the most. People will just overlook Trump's disregard for the country's checks and balances and institutions just so long as he's someone that The Left really hates, and someone that repeatedly attacks and insults the other side. If that's the case, and with a lot of people I think that it is, then that's a HUGE problem. Hell, that's a full blown crisis.
I've said this before. I don't particularly like Mike Pence, but given the choice between him, Trump, or Biden, I'd have voted for Pence all day long. He would have probably won. Anyone other than Trump would have probably won. Trump DIDN'T win, and Trump SHOULD NEVER win again! You don't want that kind of disregard to become the norm.
Now what we really need is someone that can clean up all this shit.

Anyone other than Trump would have probably won. Trump DIDN'T win, and Trump SHOULD NEVER win again! You don't want that kind of disregard to become the norm.
Now what we really need is someone that can clean up all this shit.

What? I didn’t vote for Trump either time. I voted Libertarian but the policies under Trump were correct and still are. I’d vote for DeSantis though.
Biden is a disaster and has been since day one, and Harris is an abject waste of space. The Democrats have gone over the edge in irresponsibility.

Think it’s about time to discuss what is currently happening in America today? Of course people can virtually post whatever the want.
We have:
- a shipping crisis
- empty shelves
- border crisis
- employment shortage
- inflation
- Americans stranded overseas
- high gas prices
- soaring crime rates
- a socialist reconciliation bill on the floor (not infrastructure)
Yet we are still talking about what Trump may or may not have said from an anonymous source? Better yet, why are we still discussing Trump at all? Good grief…

Yes consider them clutched! Glad someone gets me.
Will attempt to spur on conversation with one of the topics. Notice reconciliation bill is being reduced to 1.75T from 3.5T. Must have cut 50% of the give aways right? Nope they just reduced the number of years people will get free stuff.
Obviously in reality the bill will quickly go up to 3.5-5T years later because when time runs out, they will extend the programs. No politician wants to be that guy/gal to take away free stuff. Can you imagine the political ads if they did?

Total regard for checks and balances, huh? Kinda like Adam Schiff and his ludicrous impeachment attempts over Ukraine? When actually it was Biden as VP trying to influence another country to not investigate his corrupted crack addicted son? Like Hilary Clinton continually saying that the former was not a “Legitimate President”? As to “institutions” Like leftists storming elected officials’ offices, like in the building to try to pressure them not to vote to approve a Supreme Court nominee as well as putting an uncorroborated “victim” in front of the Senate. A “victim” that never produced anything that would make her delusional story believable?
Please, as Strange Brew said above, let go of your pearls and detail the C & B’s that were disregarded? Not the narratives that the media tried to create, but factual checks and balances.
I’m glad I’m in your head so much that you are “waiting for my response”. I’m sure you’ll “Pounce”. Have fun with that. How about at the same time, pouncing on an answer for the current President being awful.

These are massively influential Democrat/progressive operatives that don't even try to be anywhere close to balanced. In fact, it is just a flat out joke at this point and a textbook Marxist tactic.

My take on this is slightly different, although perhaps only slightly.
The companies that produce all of the mainstream news are entertainment companies. NBC is owned by Universal, CBS is owned by Paramount (which I think is owned by Viacom), Fox is owned by the Fox Entertainment Group, ABC is owned by Disney, and CNN is owned by Turner. They produce the news the way the produce their entertainment, and I believe their primary goal is to engage people and not necessarily to inform them. The two most effective ways to engage people is to frighten them, or to make them mad. I don't think it's a political agenda so much as it is wanting to engage, and sustain, and grow their audience.
I think they're all pretty much the same. Fox, and Newsmax (I do enjoy some of their documentaries), and OAN (who is independent, but still has the same motives as the entertainment groups) are really the same as the liberal media in my eyes. They are doing the same thing. They are engaging their audience the most effective way they know how, and that's NOT by having informing their audience as their primary goal.
And...sadly...I think it works! Everyone is pissed off! That means everyone is engaged! They'll keep watching. All day long. It's almost like they can't help themselves. I've been trying like hell for the past year or so to get my parents to turn the fucking TV off and stop watching five hours of "news" every day. It's bad for their mood and bad for the psyche. It actually starts to make sense as to how some of these extremist groups are able to radicalize their members. If you scare them and make them mad for several hours a day for weeks and months at a time, you'll convert them!
And to your original point, they also don't want to put anything out there that will make their audience abandon them.

From Axios:
"The Federal Election Commission has ruled foreign donors can finance U.S. referendum campaigns, opening the door to foreign spending on fights over high-profile policy issues, Axios has learned.
Why it matters: Foreign nationals are barred from donating to U.S. political candidates or committees. But the FEC’s decision — allowing them to support ballot committees — provides another avenue for foreigners to directly influence U.S. voters and domestic policy."
This is quite amazing on so many levels. So does this mean that Dems won't be able to bitch about Russians helping Trump in 2024?
I guess the calculus is that the Dems think that China will be able to supply them with far more money than the Russians can provide Trump (assuming, of course, anyone believes that was ever real).

Once the vaccine was readily available, meaning that everyone who wanted it could get it for free at virtually every pharmacy in America, I wouldn't have minded had this been the policy all across the land. No one has to get the vaccine, but if they get sick then the hospitals can turn them away and make way for other patients who need to be treated for ailments that were not entirely avoidable.

Most hospitalized Covid patients are unvaccinated.
At UCHealth, one of the state’s biggest health systems, 76 percent of patients hospitalized with Covid-19 are unvaccinated, and over 86 percent of Covid-19 patients who are in need of a ventilator and are in intensive care are unvaccinated

I think this whole post is pretty much right on, but I'm highlighting this part in particular. Anger and fear drive much more engagement than any political issues, other than maybe taxes. I think that the results of the 2020 election juxtaposed against the elections yesterday shows that nicely. Trump was a phenomenal anger and fear machine for the Democrats in the 2020 elections. They still underperformed in the House, but it got them the Presidency and the Senate. Without Trump they have nothing to rile people up about.
Republicans are plenty riled up though. Look at the whole CRT thing: Republicans are ripshit pissed about it, but I haven't seen much evidence that it's been taught below a College level. Still, it's become a rallying cry for many, when I tend to think it should barely rank on the stage of issues facing our country right now.
I think that one thing the VA and NY gubernatorial races highlighted that I hope Republicans take heed of, is that Trump winning the nomination again in 2024 is probably the worst thing that could happen to them. He still might beat Biden, but right now Trump seems like about the only person Biden could beat. The caveat to that (of course) is that it's early in Biden's term, but after they almost certainly lose the House and Senate next year it's hard to see things getting better for Ol' Joe from here. Still - Trump rearing his head in 2024 is going to re-instill a sense of purpose in a lot of currently listless Democrats, especially many of the moderate ones that broke for Youngkin in Virginia.

Good for them to catch someone cheating at voting. They should be caught and held accountable...whatever their party affiliation.
The Heritage Foundation's project on tracking these cases shows 1,334 cases going back at least until 1983.
Since that time there have been 1,165,000,000 presidential votes cast.
Assuming at least that many in off year elections for all state and local governments, that's over 2 billion votes in the US.
If there have been 1,334 cases of election fraud ballots per their records. I would think that is very rare.
.000000059%
That's far, far less than one ballot for every election ever held in those years.
Important that we stop them all, but I think that's a fairly good track record.

You probably didn't look at the findings of the Republican led intelligence committee findings. You should.
As to Russian disinformation, perhaps you'll watch this to see how they are working on dividing us on all sides...and succeeding.

I'm genuinely curious - what about the Durham investigation renders it rock solid information to be taken completely at face value, while the previous investigations into Trump's ties to Russia are dismissed as completely false partisan witch hunts?
Do you guys really believe that the Durham investigation is something more that just countering a partisan investigation with another partisan investigation? That's not to say that it may not be accurate - I'm sure it least parts of it are - but I find it hilarious that so many are viewing it as some sort of iron clad refutation of the Democrat led investigations into Trump's ties to Russia, and all this before the investigation has even concluded.
I get that it's all rooted in the intoxicating allure of confirmation bias, but can we at least try to think critically?
Before one of you guys erupts like a Mt. Vesuvius of right wing talking points, I was skeptical of the initial investigations and didn't support the impeachment either. Despite my belief that Trump just shouldn't have been President.

The Republicans only could act on information that they had at the time. “Information” that was falsified, obfuscated by the FBI (when people thought they were still credible) and later debunked. Information that was untruthful then covered up by FBI minions. This entire scenario should concern you Paul because that means any US citizen can be falsely targeted- including you.
This entire house of cards is falling apart under scrutiny. Those accusations were blown up so Steele could get paid by Democrat operatives from the Clinton campaign. It was a campaign dirty trick- multiplied to the max. There is zero corroboration. Read what I posted from Mate. It’s lengthy but detailed and dismisses point by point this dossier that was used for numerous legal cases. The Clinton campaign orchestrated the Steele Dossier & Russian Collusion. They used inside operatives inside the FBI to investigate it. The media didn’t corroborate & ran with it because they wanted it to be true.
There is also zero corroboration that Trump’s campaign manager gave anything to any “Russian spy”. Mate debunks that in his essay as well as all of the sensationalistic reporting from CNN and MSNBC among others. Open your eyes and ears Paul. There is more to come.
This stuff foisted by the Clinton campaign, based upon jokes and hyperbolic banter over beers, is the true threat to democracy. And there is more to come. Strap in and get your popcorn ready. Stuff is going down.

I follow legal analysts who were cautious from the beginning that the dossier was planted disinformation, and to the extent it was used for warrants is obviously an intelligence failure.
I hoped you watched the video I linked on how Russia is using it (on both sides) to spread dissent within our country.
As to Manafort, the Republican led, years long intelligence committee report decided Manafort had worked with Russian intelligence, and they in turn worked with Wikileaks to influence the election. Rudy said turning over the polling data was "bad judgement." Can you think of a possible legal explanation that Manafort would give US polling data to a Russian intelligence officer? Sharing it other Republican state parties makes sense. Sharing it with the Russians (so they could perhaps target US voters with Facebook ads to influence the election) seems to be a little out of bounds.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-russia-senate/senate-committee-concludes-russia-used-manafort-wikileaks-to-boost-trump-in-2016-idUSKCN25E1US
You'll recall Manafort was pardoned for his crimes, and to accept a pardon is an admission of guilt.
The FBI currently has a $250,000 reward for the Russian intelligence officer with whom Manafort shared polling data.

The Republican Intelligence Commited, huh?
This is what Manafort was convicted of:
FACT Verdict. On August 21, their fourth day of deliberation, the jury found Manafort guilty on 8 of the 18 felony counts, including five counts of filing false tax returns, two counts of bank fraud, and one count of failing to disclose a foreign bank account. Judge Ellis declared a mistrial on the remaining 10 charges. From your favorite network NPR:
“ Throughout the trial, the special counsel's office never made a case against Manafort related to its overarching mandate — investigating any links or coordination between Trump's campaign and the Russian interference in the 2016 election.”
NOTHING ABOUT A RUSSIAN SPY. Nothing about treason or crimes against the country. The pardon was for the above conviction.
And with the “reward” the FBI is trying to cover their ass with a straw man who can never be caught because he doesn’t exist. The media will never go back and correct their BS. Just like Adam Schiff will never go back and correct his BS claim about having “definitive evidence of collusion”. He didn’t, doesn’t and lied.

Meanwhile, to inject a small amount of humor (if you remember the song) here is a ruling from a judge in the trial of one of the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol, and wanted to travel to Europe:

Paul. Please listen. None of that information that either the Republicans nor the media reported was verified and corroborated. it was all hearsay as Detailed in Mate’s essay. THAT is why the DOJ couldn’t prosecute or Mueller accuse.
See, there is this thing called EVIDENCE to be able to show a crime or that Manafort ever did that. The FBI falsified info to the Republicans just like they falsified information in the FISA warrants. That, at the time was the garbage that was submitted to them. It’s been totally debunked since. These were made up stories repeated by compliant news media who had it out for Trump and that Hilary lost.

Not that it will obviously change anyone's mind, but the FBI investigation (Crossfire Hurricane) was opened after a friendly government advised the US of a potential problem involving Russia and the Trump campaign.
The original FISA applications were before the Steele dossier, and were supported as necessary from FBI intelligence.
From the IG report on the investigation:
As we describe in Chapter Three, the FBI opened Crossfire Hurricane on Ju ly 31, 2016, just days after its receipt of information from a Friendly Foreign
Government (FFG) reporting that, in May 2016, during a meeting with the FFG, then Trump campaign foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos "suggested the Trump team had received some kind of suggestion from Russia that it could assist this process with the anonymous release of information during the campaign that would be damaging to Mrs. Clinton (and President Obama)." The FBI Electronic Communication (EC) opening the Crossfire Hurricane investigation stated t hat, based o n the FFG information, "this investigation is being opened to determine whether individual(s) associated with the Trump campaign are witting of and/or coordinating activities with the Government of Russia."
These officials, though, did not become aware of Steele's election reporting until weeks later and we therefore determined that Steele's reports played no role in the Crossfire Hurricane opening.

I’m outraged that President Biden has cut off American energy causing prices for those products to go insanely high.
I’m outraged that inflation, caused by Biden and Dem policies of overstimulation have caused real wage after tax incomes to decline in 10 months.
I’m outraged that Labor shortages have been exacerbated by mishuided unemployment payments.
I’m outraged that Biden used a Jim Crow term to refer to Satchel Paige.
I’m outraged that Biden met with a felon Jacob Blake in Kenosha- like he was some hero- then, of course his own Justice Department had no grounds to bring charges vs the Police who had to shoot Blake.
Oh, yeah. There is plenty to be outraged about.
Meanwhile. Yeah. Let’s go down that path of doing away with Presidential Executive Privilege. Then let’s peek at O’Bama and Biden’s records. You won’t like where that goes.
Your first three reasons for your "outrage" are highly misplaced. Inflation and energy price spikes are largely the consequence of the covid recovery and mismatched labor caused by changes in spending patterns induced by covid. And the actual evidence on the impact of the unemployment payments (would you have preferred people to starve and be thrown into the streets) is that while it may have played a small role in the "labor shortage", far more important causes also stem from covid problems (fear of unsafe work places, schools shutting down so someone needs to be home, and the costs of getting help at home, for example). So perhaps you can be a little less angry? You might live longer.

First of all I was responding to Paul’s ridiculous statement that there was nothing to be outraged about.
Second, uh COVID has zero to do with this. Last year this week BEFORE there was a vaccine the average price of gas was $2.11. This year this week it’s $3.39.
Biden’s policies have directly influenced this issue by limiting drilling, pipelines and fracking in the misguided effort in “Climate Change”. Almost all observers & Economists, except the ones that are invested with Biden, agree with this. I’m sure somebody will pull out some NYT article from Krazy Krugman that disputes that. But the Pandemic has nothing to do with this issue.
“Mismatched Labor” is untrue. There was plenty of “Labor” this time last year-much of it work from home that was unaffected by COVID in the paycheck- until the Dems decided to disincentivize “Labor” by too much giveaway. No one was getting kicked on the street. Stop lying. All economists, even Biden’s, now agree that the “Stiimulus” payments were throwing kerosine on an already strongly rebounding economy. Just read the Wall Street Journal daily if you have any doubt.
Stop the false defenses and ass covering. This whole administration is an outrage and have screwed things up. Voters see it and the Dems will pay.
Finally, I’m living just fine thank you. Methinks longer than those with unabated Trump Derangement Syndrome who are constantly angry

Some people are able to think Independently Paul
“ Sullivan has stated that his liberal conservatism is rooted in his Catholic background and in the ideas of the British political philosopher Michael Oakeshott.[5][6] In 2003, he wrote he was no longer able to support the American conservative movement, as he was disaffected with the Republican Party's continued rightward shift towards social conservatism on social issues during the George W. Bush era.[7]
Born and raised in Britain, he has lived in the United States since 1984 and currently resides in Washington, D.C.,[8] and Provincetown, Massachusetts. He is openly gay and a practicing Catholic”.[9][10]

Ha! Business Insider is not non partisan, and probably will face a libel suit by Dave Portnoy on a false hit piece they ran on him.
The other stories have basis in fact. One of AOC’s biggest bitches in “Climate Change” is reducing methane, read cow farts. I actually went to a “Climate Rally” in Cleveland 2 years ago, just to get info on what these idiots are pushing. The reduction of meat consumption was front and center. Have you been to a Climate Rally Paul? Maybe 90% is hyperbole but again, based in fact.
Kamala’s book WAS found in a illegal immigrant camp. Donated or not.
As to the Virginia elimination of Advanced classes. DeBlasio did exactly that in New York under the “Equity” guise. Of course the Virginia schools guy would deny it, just as they denied that Critical Race Theory-esque curriculum and offensive sex education classes aren’t being taught. (They Are). Parents have confirmed it. (See Election 11/21)

That is what the first part of her Tweet actually said. Hannity quoted it. It wasn’t false. If anything, a US Representative should be more careful in her communication. “Under consideration”, “Still in Development” and “Rethinking”. Which means that if nobody spoke out they would have. Still may. And based upon a Loudon County School Board member statement. A very deceiving headline. “Virginia isn’t eliminating advanced math courses” . Uh. Now…..but…
https://www.virginiamercury.com/2021/04/26/virginia-isnt-eliminating-accelerated-math-courses-but-its-one-of-many-states-rethinking-math-education/
“Much of the original Fox story was based on critical social media posts from a member of the Loudoun County School Board. Those posts, in turn, were based on a statewide proposal called the Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative — an effort to modernize math education in public schools.
In a Monday briefing, state education officials were quick to emphasize that the initiative is still in development. Virginia’s superintendent of public instruction, James Lane, said a formal proposal had yet to come before him or the state Board of Education. Any change would be part of the state’s regularly scheduled revisions to its Standards of Learning — expectations for what students should master in every grade level — and wouldn’t make it into classrooms until the 2025-26 school year.
But in regional webinars, experts and department officials outlined significant potential changes to how math in Virginia is structured. One widely circulated graphic eliminated courses such as Algebra I and II in favor of “foundational” and “essential” math concepts, with more advanced classes — including calculus and geometry — not starting until the 11th grade.
In webinars, VDOE officials have been upfront that the initiative is based on data, especially standardized test scores that show Black, Hispanic and low-income students have lower pass rates on state math assessments than White and Asian students. Those critical of the initiative have argued that Virginia is lowering its standards in favor of certain students instead of improving instruction to help more children reach advanced courses.“

Ha! Yes they did. All you want to quote is the “very fine people” as if he was only referring to Nazi’s and White Supremicists.
From your prized Politifact, that you take as gospel:
“Reporter: (Inaudible) "… both sides, sir. You said there was hatred, there was violence on both sides. Are the --"
Trump: "Yes, I think there’s blame on both sides. If you look at both sides -- I think there’s blame on both sides. And I have no doubt about it, and you don’t have any doubt about it either. And if you reported it accurately, you would say."
Reporter: "The neo-Nazis started this. They showed up in Charlottesville to protest --"
Trump: "Excuse me, excuse me. They didn’t put themselves -- and you had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group. Excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name."
Reporter: "George Washington and Robert E. Lee are not the same."
Trump: "George Washington was a slave owner. Was George Washington a slave owner? So will George Washington now lose his status? Are we going to take down -- excuse me, are we going to take down statues to George Washington? How about Thomas Jefferson? What do you think of Thomas Jefferson? You like him?"
Reporter: "I do love Thomas Jefferson."
Trump: "Okay, good. Are we going to take down the statue? Because he was a major slave owner. Now, are we going to take down his statue?
"So you know what, it’s fine. You’re changing history. You’re changing culture. And you had people -- and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists -- because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.
"Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people. But you also had troublemakers, and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets, and with the baseball bats. You had a lot of bad people in the other group."
Reporter: "Sir, I just didn’t understand what you were saying. You were saying the press has treated white nationalists unfairly? I just don’t understand what you were saying."
Trump: "No, no. There were people in that rally -- and I looked the night before -- if you look, there were people protesting very quietly the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee. I’m sure in that group there were some bad ones. The following day it looked like they had some rough, bad people -- neo-Nazis, white nationalists, whatever you want to call them.
"But you had a lot of people in that group that were there to innocently protest, and very legally protest -- because, I don’t know if you know, they had a permit. The other group didn’t have a permit. So I only tell you this: There are two sides to a story. I thought what took place was a horrible moment for our country -- a horrible moment. But there are two sides to the country.”

I think that is a fair question, and I would agree this happens quite often.
I don't agree with these two examples.
The Unite the Right rally was a white supremacist[5][6][7][8] rally that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, from August 11 to 12, 2017.[9][10][11] Far-right groups participated, including self-identified members of the alt-right,[12] neo-Confederates,[13] neo-fascists,[14] white nationalists,[15] neo-Nazis,[16] Klansmen,[17] and various right-wing militias.[18] Some groups chanted racist and antisemitic slogans and carried weapons, Nazi and neo-Nazi symbols, the Valknut, Confederate battle flags, Deus Vult crosses, flags, and other symbols of various past and present anti-Islamic and anti-Semitic groups
The president condemned the white nationalists, etc. but sought to give some cover to them by saying there were good people on both sides.
The stated goal of one side was white nationalism, and there were counter protestors. And one of them was run over.
I don't agree with trying to provide some cover, like Marge Schott saying Hitler did some good things.
On the other hand, Ohmar was urging people to vote, one of our basic rights. To turn that into an effort to saying she was encouraging lawbreaking (by leaving out the part of her text noting you can register the same day) appears to be an effort to create a false narrative...and many people took it and ran with it for political gain. What was "Hannity's point of view" that he was trying to support by taking the words out of context? That she was encouraging law breaking? She wasn't.
Perhaps there were "fine people" in the Unite the Right group. But they were participating in marches, and Nazi symbols and slogans, and hateful speech about Jews, etc. Seems to be a bridge too far.

Looks like Ole Joe is indeed a racist... Even Kamala sees it, as reported on CNN:
"Suspicion has sprouted out of the bitterness. Last month, White House aides leapt to the defense of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who was being hammered with outrage by Fox News host Tucker Carlson and like-minded online pundits for taking paternity leave after the adoption of his twins in September. Harris loyalists tell CNN they see in that yet another example of an unfair standard at play, wondering why she didn't get similar cover any of the times she's been attacked by the right.
"It's hard to miss the specific energy that the White House brings to defend a White man, knowing that Kamala Harris has spent almost a year taking a lot of the hits that the West Wing didn't want to take themselves," said a former Harris aide, reflecting conversations last month among several former aides and current allies."

Who are the Dems going to nominate as their VP to replace Biden next year when they unleash the 25th Amendment on old Joe? They can't allow another idiot with an even lower approval rating than Joe to take the promotion, so they have to remove Kamala first. Will it be the guy who just took two months off to learn how to breast feed?

You could draw the conclusion that he was supporting white nationalism by giving them cover.
Why would "good people" come and participate in a rally about white nationalism and antisemitism, display Nazi symbols and chant about replacement theory?
You can't draw the conclusion that Ohmar was supporting breaking the law.
I agreed with your original thought that often media takes words out of context to support a particular point of view. I disagree this is one of those cases.
I like your posts for the most part because they make me think. Believe this one still has me scratching my head though. How do you call this giving them cover?
From Trump
and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists — because they should be condemned totally. Was that code or dog whistle for “I’ve got your back?”
If you feel everyone there who didn’t want the statue torn down were bad people, so be it. Nothing like guilty by association and that’s exactly what the press wanted people to think.
Most people can look at the BLM and other social justice protests across the country last year and say there were some good people because there were quite a few. Just because you believe or don’t believe in a certain cause doesn’t mean there are not good people in a particular group. There will always be those who tarnish the reputation of others. Of course there are fringe groups from both sides that do not have redeeming qualities IMO.
Final point. Heard Wisconsin is planning for protests if Rittenhouse is found not to be guilty. To me it would say the justice system worked, to others they’ll see this as racial injustice. If peaceful protests do happen, I can still say there are some good people in that group. Don’t understand why they would, but I don’t have to.

Paul’s valued “Politifact” ruled this “False”
“ At 17 years old Kyle (Rittenhouse) was perfectly legal to be able to possess that rifle without parental supervision.”
Politifact “Fact Checkers” are wrong. Rittenhouse was legal per Wisconsin law. The gun charge was dismissed in court.
So much for that biased site.

Maybe it's a distinction I shouldn't necessarily draw, but it is the result of watching 4 years of the prior administration.
When given a direct chance to repudiate the white nationalists in a debate, he said stand back and stand by. I think that helped Jan 6th insurrection.
When BLM organizes a protest for racial justice, often (way too often) some people come and use the gathering for creating mayhem.
But the purpose of the protest was to address a substantive issue.
What was the point of Charlottesville?
It was organized by white nationalist, neo-facist groups to (ostensibly) object to the removal of a statue of a traitor to our union.
It involved racist chants, marches with torches, nazi flags and symbols, etc.
Why would you go to a rally with those known organizers and reasons for protests? Those activities they engaged in were not a few people doing crazy things like occur with the BLM protests. They were activities that were the planned essence of the rally.
Maybe a distinction without a difference. I don't know. I wish he would have just condemned the activities, and called out the Proud Boys in the debate.
I believe his bully pulpit could have cooled things down, especially if used correctly in the run-up to Jan 6th.
Thanks for the thoughtful response. Appreciate your ideas.

Two more questions that are again two different sides of the same coin..
1) Why wasn't Hillary Clinton locked up?? Trump accused her of being a criminal. Trump said he was going to do it. He had people chanting it at the rallies. Yet, he never did. Why not??
The only two possibilities I can think of (neither of which are good) is that she wasn't actually a criminal and that Trump was lying, or that she was a criminal but the justice department chose not to pursue it.
2) Why hasn't Trump been locked up?? The Democrats have accused him of being a criminal for years now. Yet, they haven't brought any charges. Why not??
The only two possibilities I can think of (neither of which are good) is that he's not actually a criminal and that the Democrats were lying, or that he is a criminal but the Justice Department is choosing not to pursue it.
