Agree with the embargo and Communism is the cause of all this. Simple enough?

Are you serious or just abjectly stooopid?
John F. Kennedy imposed the embargo on Cuba in 1962, and it remains in place today.
The only thing Trump did was reimpose *some* travel restrictions, which were minor.
Damn those pesky facts.

Brother you are the one that said that Cuba was hurt because of an embargo that Trump imposed. He didn’t. And what you said was not an “opinion”.
After seeing this first 6 months disaster of an administration, how many of those “alleged” 81 million have already changed over?
And now the Fed Government is Big Brothering free speech on Social media platforms according to Psaki and Biden. The exact same censoring that Hitler, Russia, China and Cuba use. I guess you are just fine with that. Since this a social media platform, I guess I’d better get ready to be banned off “all social media platforms” after this one according to Psaki. Yes, I made a mistake saying "embargo" when I meant "trump sanctions" (1/11/2021) on tourism, food, medicine". No reason for you to go ballistic and give me crap about my involvement @ XU. I've worked hard for Xavier over the years and have done 20-25 College Nights in 2 different cities handing out tons of info to prospective students, answering questions about everything X. I have a box full of plaques, proclamations and letters from Xavier staff thanking me for my volunteering efforts and financial contributions. The box is going to the recycle bin soon. I was asked to do a Tele-Graham for Father Graham's retirement which was my pleasure to do. So don't ever give me baloney about my "Xavier Education". I've supported X in every way for 57 years.
And, yeah, I probably wasn't the greatest student because I was working at the Norwood Fisher Plant making Camaro seats, Dana's, the XU grille, the Kroger Candy plant and a grain elevator in Sharonville while spending my summers at Quantico but it all seemed to work out for me.

Frankly most accredited Universities could be sued on the same grounds for over charging for useless degrees these days. There were quite a few business book series in the past for people who didn’t want to go or pay for college for the papers on the wall. I'll take this as a serious set of questions, although you don't want to discuss the last president who continues to stir unrest and hatred in our country, but want to know about a president from the last century.
The Clinton Foundation has assets of around 313 million in their last report. Unlike a hotel or golf course, to the best of my knowledge Bill, Hillary and Chelsea do not draw any money from the foundation. On a personal note I have a nephew who trained pediatricians in Rwanda under a grant from the Clinton Foundation/Harvard University.
According to multiple sources, the Clintons were worth $1.2 million when he took office, perhaps the lowest of any recent president.
I think Biden is doing a credible job under the circumstances. I like his approach to getting all of America vaccinated so we can get back to work in a normal fashion.
I'm in favor of investing in infrastructure that is long overdue for our nation, and revamping some of the tax code.
He's got major challenges with the opposition (apparently) deciding to block anything from the Democrats as they did under Obama for position rather than legislative efforts to help the country.
And I like the calmness that he brings to the office after 4 years of histrionics that did not serve us well.

I really don’t want to discuss past Presidents. Bobbie brought up something specific about POTUS’ since Truman and I responded.
I don’t care that Trump is wealthy from real estate and golf courses. If that bothers you that’s odd but I don’t care.
I don’t mind the push for vaccines but his hyperbolic approach and calling TX and others Neanderthals counters your histrionics comment. TX was right btw.
Infrastructure. Sure, let’s do CRA again. However much of what is being presented is not infrastructure.
I’m for tax reform too. I’d like a fair or flat tax to replace the current system.
The opposition. This isn’t new. Biden is being pulled hard Left and it’s hard to find common ground. I’d bring Trump’s opposition into this since you brought up Obama but that’s a circular pissing match.
Concerns about current policy:
Energy. What is wrong with an all of the above strategy?
Economics. Inflation will cause problems.
Jan 6th. The protestors who vandalized the Capitol, trespassed and assaulted officers should face trial. However, why no bail and the poor treatment. We can argue all day about what’s real when it comes to their treatment however this is out of the ordinary. Please don’t start about how bad Jan 6th was. It’s not the Civil War, 911 or whatever nonsense the POTUS says about it. Frankly I give him a pass because I don’t believe he’s aware of what he’s saying.

As to "no bail" for the Jan 6th people arrested, here are the stats as of yesterday:
My stats as of this morning on the status of Jan. 6 defendants:
- 66 in custody (a few are new arrests waiting for a detention hearing)
- 478* allowed to go home, with varying conditions
- 5 unknown (dockets aren't updated yet)
*This number includes people whose cases already resolved via plea deals and whose cases aren't pending anymore (Chris Kelly had charges dismissed + Joseph Barnes, who died), but reflects overall how many people have been allowed to go home compared to the total # arrested

Care to explain what his 'approach' to getting all of America vaccinated is? Is it rooted in policy, or are you referring to incoherent pleas being made at scripted town halls?
As best I can tell he's making an effort to let the experts in the areas of infectious diseases and vaccines led the way, with the best information they have.
I prefer that approach, supporting it when he can by words and actions, than trying to project he is somehow more knowledgeable than the experts.

FBI informants and agents were involved. Testimony and video available
Calls for the Guard were ignored by Dems. Testimony available
The Cap police lied about the officer who died from a stroke. Why wouldn’t they lie about other assaults. Confirmed. Plausible and any good attorney would use this to cross the officers
Will they interview Babbitt’s killer? We know and it would give a view into the mindset and intention of the officers on that day.

A “credible job”? Biden missed, and continues to miss, his own, admittedly low, vaccination percentage of 70%. Only 49% of the country is fully vaccinated and it’s not just rubes. People of color are staying away from the vax in droves- probably because Harris said last year that she wouldn’t take a vaccine developed under Trump. Biden cast doubts on it too. In fact Biden campaigned on the statement that he would “Shut down the virus”. Welp. He’s done zero and now they are trying to impose mask mandates again. What is so damn credible?
Inflation, shortages, paying people not to work, a border that is a sieve- with, hmmmmm, 50,000 non vaxxed illegal immigrants allowed in then bussed to who knows where so they aren’t in “cages”.
Don’t even get me started on this Critical Race Theory grift.
Biden campaigned as a unifier. All he has done is divide and living off division and a friendly non-questioning media.
That is not credible and the “histrionics” of the previous four years can be attributed to Adam Schiff & Pelosi. Impeachments over nothing. Meanwhile Hunter’s bankroll is fattened by China

Biden allowed the National Association of Teachers to basically write the CDC recommendation on student attendance and masking. Teachers are not science experts. Those recommendations are not based on “Science” . And they got called on it.

But Biden doesn't talk to the press all day, every day. Trump did that. Biden pops his head up about every 5 days, says something completely whacked out and then goes back into hiding. At least Trump stood up in front of the press corps and took the grenades that were constantly being thrown at him.
How do you think Biden would do if someone like Jim Ocosta were allowed to go at him they way he did Trump? He would wilt like a flower in the desert and you know that. Biden has been treated with kid gloves and he still comes off like a stuttering buffoon every time he opens his mouth..literally every time. At least there are a few interesting and substantive posts in this idiot-fest of a thread, not just 'Trump did everything right and Biden screwed it up' or 'this is all Trump's fault'.
I agree with Smails - this was probably always going to happen, but it doesn't mean that Biden didn't screw it up pretty royally. The lack of visible leadership coupled with a poorly orchestrated exit is on the current administration. I realize that the Trump administration did some things that are contributing to the problems we are facing now, but you are the President. That fact that they seem so surprised by the rapid deterioration is concerning. I don't think the the Trump administration would have necessarily presided over a smooth and orderly exit, but I think it would have been better than this.
The bigger failure is the fact that in 18 years all we were able to accomplish was killing Bin Laden (which was awesome- don't get me wrong) and installing a government that was so obscenely corrupt and inept that it collapsed immediately upon our withdrawal. They had 18 years to stand up a semi-functional government and this is the best they could do. It just shows that withdrawal was the right thing to do, unless we wanted to stay there (literally) forever.
If anyone thinks this is a Democrat vs Republican thing, I think that they are a complete idiot. This is about America, or anybody else, trying to impose a Western style government on a people that are not equipped to live that way. The results were consistent across both Republican and Democratic administrations. We need to stop trying to do it.

2) American Rescue Act. Pork Barrell politics that A) Fueled big Inflation. B) Paid people to stay home from working and exacerbated shortages and inflation . This in the middle of an already recovering economy. Have you bought gas or tried to get a construction bid lately? Zero Credit
3) Paris Climate Accord Rejoin. Biden cut off US oil independence by banning the Keystone pipeline then gave the Russians their pipeline. THEN, he goes back and asks OPEC that THEY produce more oil. Still no strict requirements on China, the world’s biggest polluter. How’s that working out? Less than zero credit because our national Security is at stake.

The only government that seems to work in that region is a brutal dictatorship. There is little/no value in trying to depose one Dictator because you then either have to (1) try and fail to install another, more progressive, form of government or (2) deal with whatever other Dictator fills the power vacuum. I think (hope) we learned that lesson in Iraq.
I'm sure that there are people in that region who would like a different form of government, but there clearly aren't enough of them to make it happen, or to sustain it when a foreign entity makes it happen for them. Remember about 10 years ago during the Arab Spring when it was 'imminent' that Iran's regime would get overthrown and replaced with a more modern government? How did that work out?

Iran is a very different animal. It's had Secular/modern governments in the past. Stan is a tribal region which throughout history has rarely had a ruling central authority. It's similar to North America pre colonialism. Similar peoples loosely affiliated against outsiders however internally territorial and Nationalistic.

Important to remember that Biden broke the deal with the Taliban to withdraw on May 1st. This allowed the Taliban to break it's agreement with the US and they began to take territory. It's an absolute disaster and to make it worse the Taliban has seized US heavy military equipment and advanced weaponry.
Also remember the Trump administration basically wiped ISIS/the Caliphate off the map in about 45 minutes. He had that in his back pocket for the Taliban if they didn't adhere to the agreement.

Everyone should read this. Long but scary.
From former CIA Officer Bryan Dean Wright:
“Former US intelligence colleagues are angry and deeply worried at what has happened in Afghanistan.
Here's what I'm hearing, and why there's nearly universal belief that America and the world are in for one of the most dangerous, unpredictable times in modern history.
Afghanistan has shown the world -- enemies & allies alike -- that our military & intel assets are largely irrelevant because we can't deploy them successfully.
The blame lays at the feet of multiple Presidents. The Generals. The Spies. The Congress.
America's Elites are trash
China knows it.
They will become emboldened, covertly & overtly. War over Taiwan and contested islands in the S. China Sea and E. China Sea is now more likely.
Russia will consider similar covert & overt moves, focused on Crimea, & former Soviet satellites.
The fear is that China & Russia will act in concert.
Why? America was whipped by a tiny rebel force and couldn't even retreat properly.
Meanwhile, the American people are angry, COVID weary, & divided.
If there were ever a time to push American hegemony aside, this is it.
If Cold War III grows hot, America will need to quickly build up & work with foreign counterparts.
But who will trust America after Afghanistan?
Who believes we have the leadership to use our military might well?
Who will trust us when we say "We Will Stand With You"?
Beyond China/Russia, others will take gambles too.
Terror orgs like al-Qa'ida & ISIS are degraded but not dead. Their ideology is very much alive.
Iran's Hizballah -- with terror cells throughout the US -- may see an opening to create chaos too.
Meanwhile, the disaster inside Afghanistan is only just beginning.
The Taliban will launch a terror campaign against American collaborators. The pictures will shock the conscience of the world, further degrading American moral authority.
Biden & Co will struggle to respond
There's also the nightmare of tactical weaponry now awash in Afghanistan, in the hands of the Taliban and -- soon -- on the global black market.
These arms will fuel chaos around the world for decades.
The Pentagon has no idea where this stuff is and no plans to destroy it
Finally, if Afghani refugees pour into the US, there are profound implications for security, culture, the economy, & politics.
Are they properly vetted?
Do they hold Western / tolerant values re: women, gays?
Do they bring skills / education?
Which party will they support?
The existential problem is that America needs good leadership to right its ship but there is none.
Our federal bench is weak.
Biden is a corrupt old man. Impeachment is a long shot; VP Harris is an unpopular paperweight. The Legislature is a feckless cabal of empty suits.
Leadership could come from a state Governor, it's true, but not soon enough.
The above threats by China, Russia, & Co will metastasize well before the 2024 elections, and even a heroic new President will need years to clean things up.
Again, our enemies and allies know this.
Upshot: There is fear and outrage streaming through former intel officers over the Afghanistan debacle.
America is rudderless. And the world now knows it.
Grave dangers lie ahead, some predictable, others unimaginable.
Keep your loved ones tight. Pray. And vote for change“.

From Former Marine Jordan Blashek, who wrote this in the excellent sub stack publication of Bari Weiss, a truly principled, and liberal journalist who I immensely enjoy reading. I highly recommend that folks subscribe to Bari Weiss’ Common Sense.
Just sad and disgraceful.
“ President Biden failed, too. He blamed everyone but himself for the failed implementation of his withdrawal. He called the Afghan soldiers cowards — the same soldiers who bled on the battlefield with us. He set up a straw-man choice between pulling out everyone or scaling up combat operations for a country that would not fight for itself.
But that was never the choice we faced. By 2020, this had become a peacekeeping mission. Our small presence of a couple thousand troops was keeping the Taliban at bay. That was something all of us would have signed up for again and again.
The country needed President Biden to say that. We needed him to explain why the last decade of our service, why keeping the Taliban from taking Kabul, was worth the sacrifice. If he had done that, perhaps Mike’s mother, and others like her, would not be in so much pain.”
Add to this that Biden kneecapped the air forces that also would have kept the Taliban in check. They pulled all of the aircraft maintenance people out of Bagram Air Base in June and left equipment there rather than removing it to a “horizon” base, thereby giving drones & blackhawks to the Taliban. The Taliban had no Air Force, but they do now!
Incredibly ludicrous.

I don't think the SC ruled on standing. They just refused to hear most of the cases. Maybe in the goofy Texas case they noted Texas didn't have a place in the voting rules of other states. Maybe you were referring to that one.
In many of the lower courts, the cases were thrown out because there was no evidence to support the claims of fraud. In fact, I think actions are pending for sanctioning attorneys for bringing cases they knew were bogus.

Joe Biden’s “Press Conference” on Afghanistan yesterday was full of lies and untruths that were immediately debunked and contradicted by his own Department of Defense and State Department within an hour. Either this guy lies out of hand or he is mentally incompetent to actually do this job.
We are in deep trouble.
Meanwhile, people like Paul and Bobby remain silent as hell with no comment while people are falling off airplanes and our citizens are in jeopardy. This has nothing to do with Trump’s “deal”. This has everything to do with Biden blatantly pulling out of the air base, grounding the Air Capability, in July giving the troops and Afghani’s zero support. The execution of this pullout of Afghanistan is a disgrace. This is an absolute disaster.
This Administration is unraveling right before our eyes.

It was a 500-year rain event. I'd doubt they engineered it for that severe of a flood, since the cost to replace a section - if the event happened - would be a lot less than the cost to design it to withstand a 500 year event.

Let's not talk about the 'decision'. There is pretty much bipartisan support for leaving the region. I would like to hear your opinion whether you think this administration effectively planned and executed the withdraw. This is Biden's first major foreign policy decision...how do you think it has gone to this point? Don't give me this 'i want to wait an see' horseshit. You jumped on every quote, every headline and seemed to have a reaction every time President Trump passed gas.
Are you able to look objectively and form an opinion on how President Biden has executed this plan? While you're at it, since you've been on a crusade for 'truth' over the last 3 years, would you care to opine on the multiple falsehoods that have been brought light as a result of President Biden's public remarks?
You can't lob grenades from behind the wall of Trump for 3 years and then say...'let's be patient". You know that's not how this thing works...

I don't think that there was any way we were going to exit Afghanistan without the opposing sides having ammunition for criticism. Whenever we left, the Taliban was going to take over and they were going to do fucked up shit to innocent people. It was the only thing that made me hesitant about withdrawal - it's going to be Syria, but possibly worse. Honestly though, if after 20 year this is what happens when we leave, we failed to establish a functional government anyways. It's a problem without a good solution.
Having said that, Biden's withdrawal has been a complete and total failure on nearly all fronts. I can't imagine that anyone can find anything good to say about it. Beginning with the flawed intelligence that they had that lead them to believe that they had 30+ days before the Taliban took over instead of 5 days (or however long it took), and continuing through to today. His messaging has been terrible as well, which raises further questions as to whether they know what the hell is going on over there (I don't think that they do). It's almost like they didn't really give any thought to the withdrawal plans and are surprised that it didn't go well. Obviously that's a massive policy mistake, with a very real human cost. Also we look like idiots, although that's secondary at this point.

My "opinion" is that we are in a difficult place (after 20 years at war, American's longest) that Biden is doing a credible job of holding to an agreement between our country and the Taliban, negotiated by the former administration (without the actual government of Afghanistan being invited to the negotiations regarding their own country).
The people who seemed to have benefited most during those 20 years were the military and contractors, as countless reports detailed the corruption within the country itself; funds siphoned off, ghost soldiers on the payroll, etc. There were many good things that occurred, especially the education and freedom allowed to the women and girls. Perhaps those things are now embedded in such a large section of the population that some of the reforms will take hold.
As the evacuation proceeds, hopefully all Americans will get out. I'm befuddled why they didn't plan and exit the country in the last 6 months so that challenge would not be facing us. Thousands are coming out each day, although I see now that the Taliban is going to clamp down on Afghans leaving.
My opinion is that we should have left long ago. In 2002 or 2003 when we had completed the mission of eradicating the safe haven for Al Qeada. History should have taught us, our own and others, that there was little hope for long term success.
The decisions being made currently should be subject to a good review when the dust settles, and responsibility for missteps assigned with consequences as appropriate. Biden was dealt a tough hand. He's trying in good faith to deal with it with our country's interests first. I give him credit for that.

The hand that was dealt was self dealt by Biden.
Abandoning Bagran Air Base prematurely was NOT part of the agreement negotiated by Trump.
Not providing any air cover for Afghan troops and our remaining troops was NOT part of the original agreement.
Leaving US Blackhawk Helicopters, gunnery and Humvees was NOT part of the original agreement.
Not consulting with NATO allies of what the arrangements were going to be to leave was NOT PART of the original agreement.
Chaos at the airport with people falling from Airplanes was not part of the original agreement.
Dude. 75% of America thinks Biden has failed miserably in this. Our allies, the British Parliament has censured the President.

That was kind of what I thought at the time, and sort of still think, but I'm not fully educated on the situation. If it's just a matter of having 5K troops sitting there to keep a lid on the Taliban I tend to think it might be worth it to keep a presence, but if there is constant active fighting and loss of U.S. lives then I would be more in favor of pulling out.
Edit: It looks like there have been 92 U.S. Military deaths in Afghanistan since 2014, so averaging about 12 per year. That might be worth preventing the atrocities that are about to go down, but I don't really get to make that call.

The “will to fight” was “miscalculated” because Joe Biden on July 3 made the direct decision to abandon Bagram Air Base which kneecapped any Air cover for the ground troops to fight. Left behind Blackhawks and drones that the Taliban now has. Biden abandoned them first. That is a total disgrace.

President Joe Biden is failing in every single category.
-Lost Afghanistan
-Has not “shut down” the virus
-Missed his vaccination target, and it’s not just southern white rubes. Blacks have the lowest rate of any ethnic group
-Huge Inflation
-Being disrespected by our Allies and called out by the British Parliament
-Lost the US energy independence and begging OPEC to pump more oil and giving Russia a pipeline while cancelling our own Keystone pipeline.
-The Texas Border has “Kids in Cages” and they have been in there for weeks. It’s a human tragedy and the Supreme Court has reinstated the “Stay in Mexico” Policy from Trump.
-Has lost his lousy attempt at keeping a rent payment delay in place. The Supreme Court rules.
This Administration has done zero “good things” despite what Paul would like to tell you. He sure has been awfully silent lately.
I guess he forgets that “Democracy Dies in Darkness”.

Sometimes I just don't know what you guys expect or read.
We poured billions and billions into training the Afghan army, creating and supporting their government...to fight the Taliban.
So the last president signs a deal with the Taliban, without the Afghan government in the negotiations, to turn over the country to their control this year.
Leaving 2,500 troops there.
So, you're the Afghan army, and government, and the US has just struck a deal with the people you have been fighting, to turn the country over to them, to essentially surrender your country to their control.
And now you're surprised that things are going south? You're surprised that the Afghan army laid down to the Taliban who we negotiated to take the country.
You're surprised that the Afghan president took a couple hundred million dollars and fled the country? Or that people there have been siphoning off our aid for years to private accounts?
Biden's trying to end a terrible 20 year involvement. Could he have done better? Maybe. I'll admit I'm not smart enough to know.
And for sure the blabbering heads on TV aren't either.

I’m still waiting for the blabbering heads on TV to bring out the “experts” to discuss how mentally unfit Biden is for being President. CNN and MSNBC paraded them out to talk about Trump’s mental state. Now? Crickets.

Biden closed the Bagram Air Force base prematurely that could have provided air cover for the ground troops and also a more secure location to ferry evacuees out. In addition the base was left behind with large amounts of armament and 7,000 scanners with a database of Afghani citizens who cooperated with the US. He was advised by his military advisors not to do that but he did it anyway.
Stop saying “I don’t know if he could have done better” Paul and just do simple research. Closing the base was on Biden alone, not part of Trump’s deal.
NO ONE disagrees with the US leaving Afghanistan, but the execution of this departure is miserable and 100% on Joe Biden. Even liberals like Bill Maher agree with that.
Biden should be impeached for malfeasance. If one guy is impeached over a stupid phone call that did nothing to imperil National Security but this Afghanistan mess does. Biden should be impeached and removed.
Biden apparently has been “Instructed” to do a lot of things, including who to call on in “press conferences”. It would be great if he took “Instruction” in military matters.

It’s easier for Paul to deflect than think.

So the US Government knew so little about what was happening in Afghanistan that they had no idea the Afghan Security Forces would evaporate and the Taliban immediately take over, but they were able to find within 24 hours the precise ISIS-K "planner" to kill?
OK.
(Reality: Missiles launched into a desert where *maybe* some random Bedouin was located.)

At least as far as we know they didn’t drone/kill a US citizen without trial like when Biden was VP.

If you're not smart enough to know, then you are incredibly stupid. Now I don't think that's true, Paul. What I do think is that you would rather call yourself stupid than admit that Joe Biden is responsible for the massacre of US servicemen and women. It's sad that you're so ideologically slanted that you would rather insult yourself than see the situation for what it is. Sad

In fairness, this video is altered and faked.
