Here's what Rob Bolton from PGATour.com had to say about Jason in naming him a sleeper this week:
Jason Kokrak … Elevated in the FedExCup Playoffs to the tune of a T7, T8 and T17, respectively. He ranked third in greens in regulation in the series, seventh in strokes gained: tee-to-green and first in par-4 scoring. With momentum in the mix for the 31-year-old at Silverado, he’ll be harnessing his acclaimed distance off the tee to set up a seriously underrated approach game. For all of 2015-16, he ranked 26th in GIR and 24th in strokes gained: tee-to-green.
Hopefully he's able to keep up with Scott Piercy's blistering 40 under par pace!

Didn't realize Kokrak was ranked high enough to qualify for the WGC events for the new season - these events get higher FedEx Cup points and paydays during the regular seaon.

He only missed 2016 Tour Championship --which is top 30 Fedex points--by slimmest margin. Plus b/c of stronger fields his OWGR can improve which can mean exemption to Masters, US Open etc

One under and a tie for 28th after 2. He had a fairly nice round going and then double bogied the 17th. He's had some problems with the par 5s this weekend, which is a shame given his game. Still in line for a nice payday and some decent FedEx Cup points with a solid last two rounds.

I saw something today in looking up Jason's finish that confused me (as a non-golfer).
The tournament at Sea Island had a par of 72 for the first round, and par 70 for rounds 2,3, and 4.
Is that common? I'm assuming it's only one course they are playing on down there.
He had 4 birdies, 4 bogeys and 2 double bogeys to finish in a tie for 45th; had been OK going into the last day, but struggled.

Just over $16k. Another "bad" week that wasn't so bad.

Although delayed in Rd 1 he benefitted by not having to wait for Rd 2 and carded 2 early birdies to get to 6 under; lots of golf to play. He was T 2 in this one last year when Bubba closed w/2 birdies on final three to win. Would love to see him post 2 or 3 more birdies to hold lead into the weekend.

This was also the event that launched Jim Herman into the Masters last year.

Absolutely! I forget what hole (11 or 13?), but the approach shot was uphill about 90 feet. That's like trying to land a ball on the roof of a 9 story building! My wife set a record on her Fitbit. Like the speed of a tennis ball, TV does NOT do it justice.

That is exactly what we did, but with a detour to the #11 green/#12 tee before meandering to the #16 green. We also did a stop early in the stands near the #16 tee to watch the golfers skip their balls across the water to the green. Amazingly, to me at least, probably 75% of them did end their "drives" with a ball on the green. "These guys are good!"

I was going to say Dustin Johnson is also over par, but the qualifier you mention was Top 20.
Jason birdied 16, but missed a golden opportunity a hole earlier for a birdie that would have had him in a tie for the lead right now. As it is, everyone in the last group hit the bunker on the tee at 17. Par save on this hole won't be easy.
And promptly bogeys 17 while Billy Horschel holed out of the bunker. Now a 3-way tie for 2nd at -10.

Golf Fun:
Warning shots fired?!?! Just spoke to Jason Kokrak who is playing alongside Shane Lowry in the final round of the Memorial Tournament. As they were in the 9th fairway preparing to hit, both Kevin Kisner and Jordan Spieth (playing in the group behind) hit their tee balls! Spieth's tee ball almost made contact with Lowry's in the fairway. They were so close, Shane had to wait for Jordan to come identify his ball. Both Kokrak and Lowry were not pleased walking to the tenth tee, especially Shane Lowry who hit his second shot in the water and ended up making a double bogey 6 on the hole letting out some expletives in frustration.

Kokrak actually birdied the 9th hole, but to say he was displeased is an understatement. He bogeyed the 10th and 14th and double-bogeyed the 12th.

You golfing guys all know this by heart. But I was reminded this week that there are only 5 guys who have won all 4 majors, the career grand slam.
That's nuts. Just 5 in all those years.
But what's really insane, is that Jack and Tiger did it 3 times.
Chasing them is like going for 4,256...and being special if you get 3,000.

Well to be fair, the Masters did not come along until 1934 and the British Open was not a mainstay for many players until AP made a point of it in 1960. Some guys were just plain jinxed (Tom Watson, AP, Snead, Phil). Also the original Grand Slammer was Bobby Jones but included US & British ams which were the more prominent events of the era. It will be a shame if both Rory & Speith cannot complete the career slam, but beyond those two, no other real candidates. Would be miracle for Phil at this point. Rory would be only the second non-American and only European.

Starting in 2019, the PGA Championship will move from August to May - this also means that the Players Championship will move back to its original spot in late March. I gotta think that this will enable a lot more courses in the South to be able to host the PGA Championship now. Conversely, it can also have a ripple effect for tournaments scheduled in the northern US - the Memorial Tournament doesn't take place until the first weekend in June (and anyone from Columbus knows weather for this event is all over the place historically).
Not sure if this means they'll also move up the playoffs to avoid conflicts with NFL/college football, but wouldn't be shocked to see it happen.

I don't think it will make a lick of difference in what courses can host. 100% of locations in the US are available to host the PGA in August. Notice that it's in Charlotte this year, which is pretty damned south.

Jason made 1 mistake today--after 8 straight pars, he tripled #18 and that 7 ruined an otherwise solid round. Stuck with it though and had 3 birdies (including his 2 closing holes) plus an eagle to post -2. He sits T58 and will need something under par to play the weekend. Of course none of us has ever let one bad hole ruin the round.

He was already borderline just to make it to Round 2 of the playoffs after yesterday, and now fell off the cliff after bogeying his first 4 holes today. Needs to get above +1 just to get above the cut. A missed cut would mean the end of his season.

JK is safely under the cut. He needs a 2-foot putt to card a 1-under round and be even for the tourney. With the cutline a 2-over, Jason could miss the putt and still be comfortably into the third round.

If he had missed the cut and ended his season today, I would have considered it a pretty disappointing year for him, because he would have been taking a step back from his success last year. He's got a shot to change that narrative now. Particularly if he's got another 6 birdie in 11 hole run in him!
