2017 Las Vegas Invitational

"According to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, the Xavier Musketeers, Arizona State Sun Devils, Kansas State Wildcats and George Washington Colonials will headline the 2017 Las Vegas Classic. The four “visiting” teams have yet to be announced, however.

The tournament has an eight team field and typically takes place in late December. The Orleans Arena at the Orleans Hotel and Casino hosts the final two rounds. The 2016 field includes the USC Trojans, DePaul Blue Demons, Missouri State Bears, Wyoming Cowboys, Chicago State Cougars, Cornell Big Red, Troy Trojans and Southeast Missouri State Redhawks."

On a somewhat similar note, I've also heard that Las Vegas will be considered for NCAA Tournament games for the next round of tournament sites to be named. Not sure if that would mean UNLV hosting or a conference like the Mountain West hosting.

This tournament is played the Thurs/Fri before Christmas this year. Wonder if that will cause a scheduling conflict next year seeing that we have UNI scheduled for Friday December 22nd.

They'd play the games at the T-Moble Arena right there on the Strip one would assume. And. That. Would. Be. AMAZING!!!!!

There was an initial report that Xavier would be part of the Las Vegas Classic; that tournament is played prior to Christmas and would have conflicted with Xavier's return game to Northern Iowa next season.

Can we also get the title of this thread changed to reflect the Las Vegas Invitational?

I think the field is the same, but it's possible that Jon Rothstein simply had the wrong LV event when he made the initial report back in August. I'm not seeing anything about future fields on either Wikipedia or the event website.

They'll probably announce the "undercard" later on since all 4 teams in the main portion of the Las Vegas invitational will each have 2 opponents at home as part of the exempt event. That's why Butler has home games against Northern Colorado and Norfolk State this year - they're actually in the Las Vegas Invitational this season.

I've been to Vegas the last 6 years for conference tourney week and lucky enough to attend some PAC 12 tourney games at the MGM arena and it is a whole lotta fun. Never been to the Orleans but I would highly recommend trying to get to this one with X being there.
