There is a thread on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/4x9urn/what_are_some_of_your_favorite_annual_games_that/) and X-Cincy is getting a lot of love. Anyone here have a non-favorite X rivalry?

Re rivalries, on the Creighton board the writer decided that their new rivalry in the BE was with X.

WVU-Pitt. Hands down, so much hate it's insane. Going to Backyard Brawl games were the highlight of growing up in West Virginia, loved it. *IF any of you mention 07 I'll negative rep you to hell*

Reminds me a little bit about the "Civil Conflict" - this is a rivalry in football that UConn tried to start with Central Florida.

If Creighton fans want to start a rivalry with Xavier, that's one thing. It would be quite another for their players and coaches to do so (like the Civil Conflict mentioned above).

Army-Navy. It would be fun even if they were playing a game of Go Fish. Just pure hostility.

I mean.. I understand why X would be the easy answer for Creighton. They don't really have anyone else that would fit, and X was the program they were most familiar with before joining the league. I saw a couple threads about rivalries within the conference last year and I weirdly don't think most teams have 1 or 2 specific big ones.

I'd say X/Butler is definitely at the top. Nova/Gtown has all the makings of one, but Gtown hasn't been good enough to keep it up. Because of the round robin schedule, I think each school kind of has their own personal rivalry with every other team they play. Some are just escalated larger than others. X/Nova certainly could turn into a great one, we need to keep our end of the bargain though for more than 1 year.

At least for me, the rivalries for X with Gtown, Providence, Creighton, Marquette, and Seton Hall are pretty much on the same level

The only reason Butler would be a serious rival is because they've advanced further in the NCAA Tournament than Xavier has in recent memory.

Based on head-to-head results, it's not even close. They're still livid over Macura giving them chin nuts on national TV.

No where close. For either team. Nova is just a lot better than everyone else in the big east so far. In the near future I could see this being the biggest rivalry in the big east but they won't surpass UC.

Georgetown would be their biggest Big East rival if you go back to the 80s; within the Big 5 they would probably consider Saint Joe's the most bitter rival out of that grouping. There's no question that Hawk fans absolutely despise Nova.

As far as this topic goes, I have a lot of UofL and UK friends, so I enjoy that rivalry. In football I enjoy Texas-Oklahoma, gonna try to go to the game either this year or next year.

It's not as high profile as Duke - UNC (not sure if any rivalry in sports is), but Maryland-Duke in the early to mid 2000's was the better rivalry at the time. Absolutely incredible games.

So Syracuse lost to a team that lost to Incarnate Word and a team that lost to Radford. Yet they made the Final 4.

I differentiate between a "showcase" game and a "rivalry" game.

Villanova is not a rivalry game for X. Not even close. How many of you were happy when Nova won it all?? I rest my case. If they were a real rival, you would have hated the thought of them even making it. I guarantee you no Saint Joe's fans were happy about it. That's not to say that a case can't be made that it's our biggest GAME, but it is not our biggest RIVAL. They're not a rival at all. We actually like them.

West Virginia v Pitt is a real rivalry (or was). So is Louisville v Kentucky, BYU v Utah, Kansas v Missouri (or was), etc. Other than maybe Butler, there isn't anyone in the Big East that we really hate yet. Lots of good showcase games to get excited about, but no real rivalry games.

I'd have to say Louisville v Kentucky is probably my favorite non-XU rivalry. Kansas v Missouri was, but it is no longer a thing. Still, UL v UK is not a conference game, and more than half the time it's a very sloppy basketball game and an almost meaningless football game.

Small potatoes compared to SFNY (which they hate being called, BTW) and LIU Brooklyn. Both schools are in Brooklyn, and they both hate each other. That's actually a fun one. It's a lot of intensity crammed into a small gymnasium. Great atmosphere!

At the risk of being made fun of (and by risk, I mean virtual certainty) one of my genuinely favorite basketball rivalries is Iona v Manhattan. Akron v Kent is good too. I watch those, and I can't help but think the bigger conferences kind of lost their way when they carved up all the conferences, and in doing so carved up so many great and bitter conference rivalries. Manhattan v Iona is a much smaller scale, but the heat is real.

I went to Iona's High School. That rivalry is awesome, there's something special about watching a rivalry game on bleachers in a gym.

For those of you who have mentioned Army v Navy, are you familiar with the Pride Bowl?? That is a college sports gem that is pretty far under the radar, but an absolute gem nonetheless.

The Pride Bowl is the game between the two schools in sprint football. I believe there are only five or six schools that play sprint football. Everyone on the team must be under 150 lbs. All the schools play a double round robin. Army and Navy both field teams, but they also close the season with a third game against each other that doesn't count in the standings, but is the designated Pride Bowl game. It's normally on ESPN U or streamed on the internet. It's a fun game to watch.

150 pounds?! Jesus, when I was a scrawny high school cross country runner, I weighed in at 5'11", 160-165 pounds. I may have a bit on the stockier side for a cross country runner, but in no way would I qualify as stocky for a football, hockey, or lacrosse player. That's a tough weight maximum to meet.

I think all of the Pac Ten rivalries are good in their own way. I say Pac Ten knowing that it's the Pac Twelve, but Utah v Colorado is not a rivalry. All the others are, though. It's hard to say which one is the best. All are different, but not necessarily in a better or worse way. I liked the league a lot better when it was ten teams.
