How many this year? By my count we have 9.

Gates
Macura
Blueitt
Sumner
O'Mara
Ekiyor
Jones
Goodin
Gaston

Anyone else concerned with the depth? Sure would have been nice to get a few 5th year guys in for some depth.

You forgot Myles. Also, search Malcolm Bernard. He took a visit this weekend.

Maybe we'll get Bernard, but 5th year guys can be tough to get when you have a lot of depth. A guard/wing who's a strong defender would be nice, but at the 1 through 3, you have Sumner, Goodin, Myles, Macura, Bluiett and Gates. That's some tough competition for minutes.

The only concern I have(small concern) is depth at the 1-2. We have sumner at the 1 and myles at the 2 with Goodin as their only backup. You could shift Trevon or JP to the 2 if need be, but I always prefer to see 2 ball handlers in the game. If Sumner and Myles were to get in foul trouble I would be concerned, but other than that I think we are fine.

Seeing that Larry Austin played minimal minutes last year, with Davis taking up the bulk of the backup point guard duties, I'd say we're probably fine with Goodin as the only other back up.

We're fine for stretches with a backcourt of Davis and Macura or Davis and Blueitt. Those guys are improving their ball handling and learning to manage things within their skill set.

Definitely will always want/need better players with the dribble drive skill set, but that's another topic.

Looking at the method that Verbal Commits uses for listing our players, this year seems OK.

1 Sumner/Goodin
2 Myles/Macura
3 Bluiett/Gates
4 Jones/Ekyior
5 Gaston/O'Mara

The concern would be next year when we lose Gaston and Myles, and maybe Bluiett and Sumner

I think Paul Scruggs is a must get due to the loss of Myles and potentially Sumner. That would leave us with only one returning guy who normally plays the 1-2 and he'd be a sophomore. We need a guy like Scruggs who is really good ball handler and can come in and immediately contribute at the point.

Wonder if Malcolm Bernard is signing with X. Just got a twitter update that Blueitt and JP started following him on twitter

He could be, but I wouldn't read much into Twitter follows. They met each other and they share a common interest; therefore they followed each other. Happens all the time, whether the player comes to Xavier or not.

Yeah, I'm sure he's gotten recent follows from Temple people as well.

I also just found out that JP has me blocked on Twitter. Which is fine, if I were a major college athlete I'd have a private acct. Just odd since I've never said a bad thing about him. Oh well...

What a huge deal that is! Hoping they nail this class as it will go a long way to determining how enjoyable the next several years will be. Maybe worth it to take the time to join Scout now to hear more recruiting stuff. That beats Rivals, right? Or is there something better?

I haven't joined scout because I'm cheap and the $100 a year seems a bit much, but I do listen to Broering and Snow's monthly recruiting podcast and it has a ton of good information on it. I'm sure that scout has even more of that information. Just through free information, it's pretty easy to stay decently up to date on recruits, but I'm sure Scout can give you daily/weekly updates if that's what you're looking for.

The $100 scout annual fee is more than worth it -- if, for no other reason, than providing REAL Xavier basketball information and reporting during the April-to-October doldrums...

This board was pretty surprised when Melvin Swift committed because a lot of people had never heard of him. It didn't come as a shock to the people on Scout .

April to October Doldrums? There's been a solid 11 posts per day average around here so far this summer... (sarcasm).

I will take doldrums over some of the things that have happened in the past during the offseason. Every. Single. Day.

Yeah, but we all found out on the same day that he committed. And some of us had an extra hundred bucks in our pockets.

I actually belonged to the Rivals site for a while back when Snow was running it, and he definitely had some good recruiting information (once you paid someone else to translate his writing into English). But at the end of the day I decided that information wasn't worth the money to me, personally. Any truly important information is going to come out in due time, and I get better analysis of actual Xavier basketball by reading this site after games than I ever did from Snow.

To each their own.

It just depends on the kind of information you want. Some people only care about recruiting after someone commits. That's fine. Other people want to know who we're talking to and where guys are in their decision process. That's fine too. There are multiple names Xavier is close to that have never been mentioned on this board.

As far as analysis goes, Rick is really, really good. His video breakdowns after games last year were worth the subscription for me.

Yea, I was listening to it for free but enjoyed them so much I felt it was worth it to get the subscription even if only to support the podcast.

I pay the monthly fee for Scout, and this sums it up perfectly for me. I completely understand those who don't care to pay. I enjoy it for the ebbs and flows and learning about what's going on. Mostly, I enjoy it as a "soap opera" to keep me entertained but I also like the behind-the-curtains look into what all goes into running a program. During the season, Rick's analysis is fantastic and the best recap and breakdown of Xavier basketball I have found.

That said, I don't blame anyone who doesn't want to justify the fee.

So... I noticed today that Rick Broering has a new podcast out, but it's not at the normal link. Have they moved it behind a pay wall? That's okay if so, but I just wondered if any others noticed this. The link I usually use does not show the new episode, out today (7/26/16).

Yea it wasn't in its normal spot today and shows up as premium through the scout site. If you click the link scout tweeted out earlier you can get to it free though.
